1 A şa mi -a vorbit Domnul:, Du-te de cumpără-ţi un brîu de in, şi pune -l în jurul coapselor tale; dar să nu -l moi în apă!`

Thus said Jehovah unto me, `Go, and thou hast got for thee a girdle of linen, and hast placed it on thy loins, and into water thou dost not cause it to enter:'

2 A m cumpărat brîul, după porunca Domnului, şi l-am pus în jurul coapselor mele.

and I get the girdle, according to the word of Jehovah, and I place on my loins.

3 A poi Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit a doua oară, astfel:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me a second time, saying,

4 I a brîul, pe care l-ai cumpărat, şi pe care l-ai pus în jurul coapselor tale, scoală-te, du-te la Eufrat, şi ascunde -l acolo în crăpătura unei stînci.`

`Take the girdle that thou hast got, that on thy loins, and rise, go to Phrat, and hide it there in a hole of the rock;

5 M 'am dus, şi l-am ascuns la Eufrat, cum îmi poruncise Domnul.

and I go and hide it by Phrat, as Jehovah commanded me.

6 D upă mai multe zile, Domnul mi -a zis:, Scoală-te, du-te la Eufrat, şi ia de acolo brîul, pe care-ţi poruncisem să -l ascunzi acolo!`

And it cometh to pass, at the end of many days, that Jehovah saith unto me, `Rise, go to Phrat, and take thence the girdle, that I commanded thee to hide there;'

7 M 'am dus la Eufrat, am săpat, şi am luat brîul din locul în care -l ascunsesem; dar iată că brîul era stricat şi nu mai era bun de nimic.

and I go to Phrat, and dig, and take the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and lo, the girdle hath been marred, it is not profitable for anything.

8 C uvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit astfel:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, `Thus said Jehovah:

9 A şa vorbeşte Domnul:, Aşa voi nimici mîndria lui Iuda şi mîndria peste măsură de mare a Ierusalimului.

Thus do I mar the excellency of Judah, And the great excellency of Jerusalem.

10 P oporul acesta este un popor rău: nu vrea să asculte cuvintele Mele, urmează pornirile inimii lui, şi merge după alţi dumnezei, ca să le slujească şi să se închine înaintea lor; de aceea va ajunge întocmai ca brîul acesta, care nu mai este bun de nimic!

This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, Who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, And go after other gods to serve them, And to bow themselves to them, Yea it is -- as this girdle, that is not profitable for anything.

11 C ăci, cum se lipeşte brîul de coapsele unui om, aşa Îmi lipisem Eu toată casa lui Israel şi toată casa lui Iuda, zice Domnul, ca să fie poporul Meu, Numele Meu, lauda Mea şi slava Mea; dar nu M'au ascultat.

For, as the girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, So I caused to cleave unto Me The whole house of Israel, And the whole house of Judah, an affirmation of Jehovah, To be to Me for a people, and for a name, And for praise, and for beauty, And they have not hearkened.

12 D e aceea spune-le cuvintele acestea:, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel:, Toate vasele se vor umplea cu vin!` Şi ei îţi vor zice:, Crezi că noi nu ştim, că toate vasele se vor umplea cu vin?`

And thou hast said unto them this word, Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, `Every bottle is full of wine,' And they have said unto thee: `Do we not certainly know that every bottle is full of wine?'

13 A tunci spune-le:, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Iată, voi umplea pe toţi locuitorii ţării acesteia, pe împăraţii cari stau pe scaunul de domnie al lui David, pe preoţi, pe prooroci, şi pe toţi locuitorii Ierusalimului, îi voi umplea de beţie.

And thou hast said unto them, `Thus said Jehovah: Lo, I am filling all the inhabitants of this land, And the kings who sit for David on his throne, And the priests, and the prophets, And all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, drunkenness,

14 Î i voi sfărîma pe unii de alţii, pe părinţi şi pe fii laolaltă, zice Domnul., Nu -i voi cruţa, nu voi avea milă de ei, nu Mă voi îndura de ei, nimic nu Mă va împedeca să -i nimicesc.``

And have dashed them one against another, And the fathers and the sons together, An affirmation of Jehovah, I do not pity, nor spare, nor have I mercy, So as not to destroy them.

15 A scultaţi şi luaţi aminte! Nu fiţi mîndri, căci Domnul vorbeşte!

Hear, and give ear -- be not haughty, For Jehovah hath spoken.

16 D aţi slavă Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru, pînă nu vine întunerecul, pînă nu vi se lovesc picioarele de munţii nopţii! Veţi aştepta lumina, dar El o va preface în umbra morţii, şi o va preface în negură adîncă.

Give ye to Jehovah your God honour, Before He doth cause darkness, And before your feet stumble on dark mountains, And ye have waited for light, And He hath made it for death-shade, And hath appointed for thick darkness.

17 I ar dacă nu vreţi să ascultaţi, voi plînge în ascuns, pentru mîndria voastră; mi se vor topi ochii în lacrămi, pentrucă turma Domnului va fi dusă în robie.

And if ye do not hear it, In secret places doth my soul weep, because of pride, Yea, it weepeth sore, And the tear cometh down mine eyes, For the flock of Jehovah hath been taken captive.

18 S pune împăratului şi împărătesei:,Şedeţi pe pămînt! Căci v'a căzut de pe cap cununa împărărtească ce vă slujea ca podoabă.``

Say to the king and to the mistress: Make yourselves low -- sit still, For come down have your principalities, The crown of your beauty.

19 C etăţile dela miazăzi sînt închise, şi nu -i cine să deschidă. Tot Iuda este dus în robie, da, în întregime este dus în robie.``

The cities of the south have been shut up, And there is none opening, Judah hath been removed -- all of her, She hath been removed completely --

20 R idică-ţi ochii şi priveşte pe ceice vin dela miazănoapte. Unde este turma care-ţi fusese dată, turma de care erai aşa de mîndru?

Lift up your eyes, and see those coming in from the north, Where the drove given to thee, thy beautiful flock?

21 C e vei zice cînd va pune mai mari peste tine pe străinii aceia pe cari i-ai obicinuit să-ţi fie prieteni de aproape? Nu te vor apuca durerile, cum apucă pe o femeie la naştere?

What dost thou say, when He looketh after thee? And thou -- thou hast taught them over thee -- leaders for head? Do not pangs seize thee as a travailing woman?

22 Ş i dacă vei zice în inima ta:, Pentruce mi se întîmplă lucrul acesta?`` -,, Din pricina mulţimii nelegiuirilor tale, ţi s'au ridicat poalele hainelor, şi ţi se dezgolesc călcîile cu sila.

And when thou dost say in thy heart, `Wherefore have these met me?' For the abundance of thine iniquity Have thy skirts been uncovered, Have thy heels suffered violence.

23 P oate un Etiopian să-şi schimbe pielea, sau un pardos să-şi schimbe petele? Tot aşa, aţi putea voi să faceţi binele, voi, cari sînteţi deprinşi să faceţi răul?

Doth a Cushite change his skin? and a leopard his spots? Ye also are able to do good, who are accustomed to do evil.

24 D e aceea, îi voi risipi, ca pleava luată de vîntul pustiei.

And I scatter them as stubble, Passing away, by a wind of the wilderness.

25 I ată-ţi soarta, partea pe care ţi -o măsor, zice Domnul, pentrucă M'ai uitat, şi ţi-ai pus încrederea în minciună.

This thy lot, the portion of thy measures from Me -- an affirmation of Jehovah, Because thou hast forgotten me, And dost trust in falsehood.

26 D e aceea îţi voi ridica poalele şi ţi le voi da peste cap, ca să ţi se vadă ruşinea.

I also have made bare thy skirts before thy face, And thy shame hath been seen.

27 A m văzut preacurviile şi nechezăturile tale, curviile nelegiuite pe dealuri şi în ogoare, ţi-am văzut urîciunile! Vai de tine, Ierusalime! Nu vrei să te curăţi? Cît vei mai zăbovi?``

Thine adulteries, and thy neighings, The wickedness of thy whoredom, on heights in a field, I have seen thine abominations. Wo to thee, O Jerusalem, Thou art not cleansed, after when again?
