1 U n om care se împotriveşte tuturor mustrărilor, va fi zdrobit deodată şi fără leac. -

A man often reproved, hardening the neck, Is suddenly broken, and there is no healing.

2 C înd se înmulţesc cei buni, poporul se bucură, dar cînd stăpîneşte cel rău, poporul geme. -

In the multiplying of the righteous the people rejoice, And in the ruling of the wicked the people sigh.

3 C ine iubeşte înţelepciunea înveseleşte pe tatăl său, dar cine umblă cu curvele risipeşte averea. -

A man loving wisdom rejoiceth his father, And a friend of harlots destroyeth wealth.

4 U n împărat întăreşte ţara prin dreptate, dar cine ia mită, o nimiceşte. -

A king by judgment establisheth a land, And one receiving gifts throweth it down.

5 C ine linguşeşte pe aproapele său, îi întinde un laţ supt paşii lui. -

A man taking a portion above his neighbour, Spreadeth a net for his own steps.

6 Î n păcatul omului rău este o cursă, dar cel bun biruie şi se bucură. -

In the transgression of the evil a snare, And the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

7 C el bun pricepe pricina săracilor, dar cel rău nu poate s'o priceapă. -

The righteous knoweth the plea of the poor, The wicked understandeth not knowledge.

8 C ei uşuratici aprind focul în cetate, dar înţelepţii potolesc mînia. -

Men of scorning ensnare a city, And the wise turn back anger.

9 C înd se ceartă un înţelept cu un nebun, să se tot supere sau să tot rîdă, căci pace nu se face. -

A wise man is judged by the foolish man, And he hath been angry, And he hath laughed, and there is no rest.

10 O amenii setoşi de sînge urăsc pe omul fără prihană, dar oamenii fără prihană îi ocrotesc viaţa. -

Men of blood hate the perfect, And the upright seek his soul.

11 N ebunul îşi arată toată patima, dar înţeleptul o stăpîneşte. -

A fool bringeth out all his mind, And the wise till afterwards restraineth it.

12 C înd celce stăpîneşte dă ascultare cuvintelor mincinoase, toţi slujitorii lui sînt nişte răi. -

A ruler who is attending to lying words, All his ministers wicked.

13 S ăracul şi asupritorul se întîlnesc, dar Domnul le luminează ochii la amîndoi,

The poor and the man of frauds have met together, Jehovah is enlightening the eyes of them both.

14 U n împărat care judecă pe săraci după adevăr, îşi va avea scaunul de domnie întărit pe vecie. -

a king that is judging truly the poor, His throne for ever is established.

15 N uiaua şi certarea dau înţelepciunea, dar copilul lăsat de capul lui face ruşine mamei sale. -

A rod and reproof give wisdom, And a youth let away is shaming his mother.

16 C înd se înmulţesc cei răi, se înmulţeşte şi păcatul, dar cei buni le vor vedea căderea. -

In the multiplying of the wicked transgression multiplieth, And the righteous on their fall do look.

17 P edepseşte-ţi fiul, şi el îţi va da odihnă, şi îţi va aduce desfătare sufletului. -

Chastise thy son, and he giveth thee comfort, Yea, he giveth delights to thy soul.

18 C înd nu este nicio descoperire dumnezeiască, poporul este fără frîu; dar ferice de poporul care păzeşte legea! -

Without a Vision is a people made naked, And whoso is keeping the law, O his happiness!

19 N u prin vorbe se pedepseşte un rob, căci chiar dacă pricepe, n'ascultă. -

By words a servant is not instructed though he understand, And there is nothing answering.

20 D acă vezi un om care vorbeşte nechibzuit, poţi să nădăjduieşti mai mult dela un nebun decît dela el. -

Thou hast seen a man hasty in his words! More hope of a fool than of him.

21 S lujitorul pe care -l răsfeţi din copilărie, la urmă ajunge de se crede fiu. -

Whoso is bringing up his servant delicately, from youth, his latter end also he is continuator.

22 U n om mînios stîrneşte certuri, şi un înfuriat face multe păcate. -

An angry man stirreth up contention, And a furious man is multiplying transgression.

23 M îndria unui om îl scoboară, dar cine este smerit cu duhul capătă cinste. -

The pride of man humbleth him, And humility of spirit upholdeth honour.

24 C ine împarte cu un hoţ îşi urăşte viaţa, aude blestemul, şi nu spune nimic. -

Whoso is sharing with a thief is hating his own soul, Execration he heareth, and telleth not.

25 F rica de oameni este o cursă, dar cel ce se încrede în Domnul n'are dece să se teamă. -

Fear of man causeth a snare, And the confident in Jehovah is set on high.

26 M ulţi umblă după bunăvoinţa celui ce stăpîneşte, dar Domnul este acela care face dreptate fiecăruia.

Many are seeking the face of a ruler, And from Jehovah the judgment of each.

27 O mul nelegiuit este o scîrbă înaintea celor neprihăniţi, dar cel ce umblă fără prihană este o scîrbă înaintea celor răi.

An abomination to the righteous the perverse man, And an abomination to the wicked the upright in the way!
