1 E l que se empecina ante la reprensión acabará en la ruina pronto y sin remedio.

A man often reproved, hardening the neck, Is suddenly broken, and there is no healing.

2 C uando los justos triunfan, el pueblo se alegra; cuando gobierna el impío, el pueblo gime.

In the multiplying of the righteous the people rejoice, And in the ruling of the wicked the people sigh.

3 E l que ama la sabiduría alegra a su padre; el que frecuenta rameras dilapida sus bienes.

A man loving wisdom rejoiceth his father, And a friend of harlots destroyeth wealth.

4 C on justicia, el rey afirma la tierra; la destruye el que impone tributos.

A king by judgment establisheth a land, And one receiving gifts throweth it down.

5 E l que prodiga lisonjas a su prójimo sólo está tendiéndole una trampa.

A man taking a portion above his neighbour, Spreadeth a net for his own steps.

6 E l pecado del malvado es su propia trampa, pero el justo canta y vive feliz.

In the transgression of the evil a snare, And the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

7 E l justo hace suya la causa de los pobres; de esto, el impío no entiende nada.

The righteous knoweth the plea of the poor, The wicked understandeth not knowledge.

8 L os burlones pueden azuzar a toda una ciudad, pero los sabios saben calmar los ánimos.

Men of scorning ensnare a city, And the wise turn back anger.

9 C uando el sabio entra en pleito con el necio, el necio no deja de reírse ni de burlarse.

A wise man is judged by the foolish man, And he hath been angry, And he hath laughed, and there is no rest.

10 L os homicidas odian al hombre cabal, pero los hombres honrados buscan su bien.

Men of blood hate the perfect, And the upright seek his soul.

11 E l necio da rienda suelta a su enojo, pero el sabio sabe cómo calmarlo.

A fool bringeth out all his mind, And the wise till afterwards restraineth it.

12 C uando un gobernante hace caso de mentiras, todos sus servidores se vuelven corruptos.

A ruler who is attending to lying words, All his ministers wicked.

13 E l pobre y el usurero coinciden en algo: el Señor da luz a los ojos de ambos.

The poor and the man of frauds have met together, Jehovah is enlightening the eyes of them both.

14 E l trono del rey se afirma para siempre, si éste juzga a los pobres con la verdad.

a king that is judging truly the poor, His throne for ever is established.

15 L a vara y la corrección imparten sabiduría, pero el hijo consentido avergüenza a su madre.

A rod and reproof give wisdom, And a youth let away is shaming his mother.

16 S i aumentan los impíos, aumenta el pecado, pero los justos los verán fracasar.

In the multiplying of the wicked transgression multiplieth, And the righteous on their fall do look.

17 C orrige a tu hijo, y vivirás tranquilo, y a ti mismo te dará grandes alegrías.

Chastise thy son, and he giveth thee comfort, Yea, he giveth delights to thy soul.

18 C uando no hay visión, el pueblo se desvía; ¡dichoso aquél que obedece la ley!

Without a Vision is a people made naked, And whoso is keeping the law, O his happiness!

19 A l siervo no se le corrige con palabras, porque entiende pero no hace caso.

By words a servant is not instructed though he understand, And there is nothing answering.

20 F íjate en la gente que habla a la ligera: ¡más se espera del necio que de esa gente!

Thou hast seen a man hasty in his words! More hope of a fool than of him.

21 S i desde niño el amo consiente al siervo, al final el siervo será su amo.

Whoso is bringing up his servant delicately, from youth, his latter end also he is continuator.

22 E l hombre irascible suscita contiendas, y el hombre violento comete muchos pecados.

An angry man stirreth up contention, And a furious man is multiplying transgression.

23 L a soberbia humilla al hombre; al humilde de espíritu lo sostiene la honra.

The pride of man humbleth him, And humility of spirit upholdeth honour.

24 E l cómplice del ladrón se odia a sí mismo, pues oye la imprecación y guarda silencio.

Whoso is sharing with a thief is hating his own soul, Execration he heareth, and telleth not.

25 E l miedo a los hombres es una trampa, pero el que confía en el Señor es exaltado.

Fear of man causeth a snare, And the confident in Jehovah is set on high.

26 M uchos buscan el favor del gobernante, pero la sentencia de cada uno viene del Señor.

Many are seeking the face of a ruler, And from Jehovah the judgment of each.

27 P ara los justos, los malvados son repugnantes; para los malvados, los repugnantes son los justos.

An abomination to the righteous the perverse man, And an abomination to the wicked the upright in the way!
