1 A sí ha dicho el Señor: «¿Qué pasó con la carta de repudio, con la que repudié a la madre de ustedes? ¿Quiénes son mis acreedores, a quienes yo a ustedes los vendí? Dense cuenta de que ustedes fueron vendidos por causa de sus maldades, y de que su madre fue repudiada por sus rebeliones.

Thus said Jehovah: `Where this -- the bill of your mother's divorce, Whom I sent away? Or to which of My creditors have I sold you? Lo, for your iniquities ye have been sold, And for your transgressions Hath your mother been sent away.

2 ¿ Por qué no hallé a nadie cuando vine? ¿Por qué nadie respondió cuando llamé? ¿Acaso mi mano ha perdido su poder de redimir? ¿Acaso ya no tengo poder para librar? ¡Fíjense bien! Yo reprendo al mar, y éste se seca; convierto a los ríos en un desierto, y por la falta de agua sus peces se pudren y se mueren de sed.

Wherefore have I come, and there is no one? I called, and there is none answering, Hath My hand been at all short of redemption? And is there not in me power to deliver? Lo, by My rebuke I dry up a sea, I make rivers a wilderness, Their fish stinketh, for there is no water, And dieth with thirst.

3 C ubro los cielos de oscuridad, y hago que se vistan de luto.»

I clothe the heavens blackness, And sackcloth I make their covering.

4 D ios el Señor me ha dado una lengua de sabios, para saber cómo consolar a los cansados. Todas las mañanas despierta mis oídos para que escuche como los sabios.

The Lord Jehovah hath given to me The tongue of taught ones, To know to aid the weary a word, He waketh morning by morning, He waketh for me an ear to hear as taught ones.

5 D ios el Señor me ha abierto los oídos, y yo no he sido rebelde ni he intentado huir.

The Lord Jehovah opened for me the ear, And I rebelled not -- backward I moved not.

6 A los que me herían les ofrecí la espalda, y a los que me arrancaban la barba les ofrecí la mejilla; no escondí mi rostro de las injurias ni de los escupitajos.

My back I have given to those smiting, And my cheeks to those plucking out, My face I hid not from shame and spitting.

7 D ios el Señor me ayudará, así que no me avergonzaré. Por eso endurecí mi rostro como piedra, pues bien sé que no seré avergonzado.

And the Lord Jehovah giveth help to me, Therefore I have not been ashamed, Therefore I have set my face as a flint, And I know that I am not ashamed.

8 M i salvador está cerca de mí; levantémonos y veamos quién se atreve a contender conmigo. ¡Que se enfrente a mí el que quiera acusarme!

Near He who is justifying me, Who doth contend with me? We stand together, who mine opponent? Let him come nigh unto me.

9 ¡ Fíjense bien! Dios el Señor es quien me ayuda; ¿quién puede condenarme? Fíjense y verán que todos ellos se envejecerán como la ropa; ¡serán carcomidos por la polilla!

Lo, the Lord Jehovah giveth help to me, Who he that declareth me wicked? Lo, all of them as a garment wear out, A moth doth eat them.

10 ¿ Quién de ustedes teme al Señor y oye la voz de su siervo? Si hay alguien que ande en tinieblas y carezca de luz, que confíe en el nombre del Señor, y que se apoye en su Dios.

Who among you, fearing Jehovah, Hearkening to the voice of His servant, That hath walked in dark places, And there is no brightness for him? Let him trust in the name of Jehovah, And lean upon his God.

11 P ero a todos ustedes, lo que encienden fuego y se rodean de teas, y andan a la luz de su fuego y de las teas que han encendido, esto es lo que recibirán de mi mano: con grandes dolores serán sepultados.

Lo, all ye kindling a fire, girding on sparks, Walk ye in the light of your fire, And in the sparks ye have caused to burn, From my hand hath this been to you, In grief ye lie down!
