1 D espués de despedirnos de ellos, zarpamos y nos fuimos directamente a Cos, y al día siguiente a Rodas, y de allí continuamos a Pátara.

And it came to pass, at our sailing, having been parted from them, having run direct, we came to Coos, and the succeeding to Rhodes, and thence to Patara,

2 A llí dimos con un barco que se dirigía a Fenicia, así que nos embarcamos en él y zarpamos.

and having found a ship passing over to Phenicia, having gone on board, we sailed,

3 D el lado izquierdo pudimos ver Chipre, pero seguimos navegando hacia Siria y arribamos a Tiro, porque el barco tenía que descargar allí.

and having discovered Cyprus, and having left it on the left, we were sailing to Syria, and did land at Tyre, for there was the ship discharging the lading.

4 C omo allí encontramos a los discípulos, nos quedamos con ellos siete días. Ellos, por medio del Espíritu, le decían a Pablo que no fuera a Jerusalén.

And having found out the disciples, we tarried there seven days, and they said to Paul, through the Spirit, not to go up to Jerusalem;

5 C umplidos los siete días, salimos de la ciudad, y todos nos acompañaron con sus mujeres y sus hijos. En la playa nos pusimos de rodillas y oramos,

but when it came that we completed the days, having gone forth, we went on, all bringing us on the way, with women and children, unto the outside of the city, and having bowed the knees upon the shore, we prayed,

6 l uego nos abrazamos unos a otros, y subimos al barco. Ellos, por su parte, volvieron a sus casas.

and having embraced one another, we embarked in the ship, and they returned to their own friends.

7 N osotros seguimos navegando. Salimos de Tiro y arribamos a Tolemaida; allí saludamos a los hermanos y nos quedamos con ellos un día.

And we, having finished the course, from Tyre came down to Ptolemais, and having saluted the brethren, we remained one day with them;

8 A l día siguiente, salimos y nos dirigimos a Cesarea; allí nos hospedamos en casa de Felipe el evangelista, que era uno de los siete

and on the morrow Paul and his company having gone forth, we came to Cesarea, and having entered into the house of Philip the evangelist -- who is of the seven -- we remained with him,

9 y que tenía cuatro hijas doncellas que profetizaban.

and this one had four daughters, virgins, prophesying.

10 D urante los días que allí permanecimos, un profeta llamado Agabo llegó de Judea,

And we remaining many more days, there came down a certain one from Judea, a prophet, by name Agabus,

11 p ues venía a vernos. Agabo tomó el cinto de Pablo, se ató con él las manos y los pies, y dijo: «El Espíritu Santo ha dicho: “Así atarán los judíos en Jerusalén al dueño de este cinto, y lo entregarán a los no judíos.”»

and he having come unto us, and having taken up the girdle of Paul, having bound also his own hands and feet, said, `Thus saith the Holy Spirit, The man whose is this girdle -- so shall the Jews in Jerusalem bind, and they shall deliver up to the hands of nations.'

12 A l oír esto, nosotros y los de Cesarea le rogamos a Pablo que no fuera a Jerusalén.

And when we heard these things, we called upon -- both we, and those of that place -- not to go up to Jerusalem,

13 P ero Pablo respondió: «¿Por qué lloran? ¡Se me parte el corazón! Por el nombre del Señor Jesús, yo estoy dispuesto no sólo a que me aten, sino a que me maten en Jerusalén.»

and Paul answered, `What do ye -- weeping, and crushing mine heart? for I, not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem, am ready, for the name of the Lord Jesus;'

14 C omo no pudimos convencerlo, dejamos de insistir y le dijimos: «¡Que se haga la voluntad del Señor!»

and he not being persuaded, we were silent, saying, `The will of the Lord be done.'

15 D ías después hicimos los preparativos y subimos a Jerusalén.

And after these days, having taken vessels, we were going up to Jerusalem,

16 A lgunos de los discípulos de Cesarea nos acompañaron; consigo llevaron a Mnasón, un antiguo discípulo de Chipre, en cuya casa nos hospedaríamos. Arresto de Pablo en el templo

and there went also of the disciples from Cesarea with us, bringing with them him with whom we may lodge, a certain Mnason of Cyprus, an aged disciple.

17 C uando llegamos a Jerusalén, los hermanos nos recibieron con mucho gozo.

And we having come to Jerusalem, the brethren did gladly receive us,

18 A l día siguiente entramos con Pablo en casa de Jacobo. Allí estaban reunidos todos los ancianos.

and on the morrow Paul was going in with us unto James, all the elders also came,

19 D espués de saludarlos, Pablo les habló de su ministerio, y con mucho detalle les contó lo que Dios había hecho entre los no judíos.

and having saluted them, he was declaring, one by one, each of the things God did among the nations through his ministration,

20 C uando ellos lo oyeron, glorificaron a Dios y le dijeron: «Hermano Pablo, ya hemos visto cuántos miles de judíos han creído, todos ellos celosos de la ley.

and they having heard, were glorifying the Lord. They said also to him, `Thou seest, brother, how many myriads there are of Jews who have believed, and all are zealous of the law,

21 L o que aquí se ha sabido es que a los judíos que están entre los no judíos los enseñas a renegar de las enseñanzas de Moisés, y que les dices que no circunciden a sus hijos ni observen nuestras costumbres.

and they are instructed concerning thee, that apostacy from Moses thou dost teach to all Jews among the nations, saying -- Not to circumcise the children, nor after the customs to walk;

22 ¿ Qué dices a esto? Seguramente ya se sabe que has venido,

what then is it? certainly the multitude it behoveth to come together, for they will hear that thou hast come.

23 a sí que te recomendamos hacer lo siguiente: Hay entre nosotros cuatro hombres que están obligados a cumplir un voto.

`This, therefore, do that we say to thee: We have four men having a vow on themselves,

24 V e y purifícate con ellos, y paga para que les rasuren la cabeza. Así todos comprenderán que no es cierto lo que supieron acerca de ti, y que también tú obedeces la ley.

these having taken, be purified with them, and be at expence with them, that they may shave the head, and all may know that the things of which they have been instructed concerning thee are nothing, but thou dost walk -- thyself also -- the law keeping.

25 E n cuanto a los creyentes no judíos, nosotros ya les hemos escrito y les recomendamos que no observen nada de esto, sino que se abstengan solamente de comer lo que se sacrifica a los ídolos, que no coman sangre ni animales ahogados, ni incurran en libertinaje sexual.»

`And concerning those of the nations who have believed, we have written, having given judgment, that they observe no such thing, except to keep themselves both from idol-sacrifices, and blood, and a strangled thing, and whoredom.'

26 P ablo tomó consigo a aquellos hombres, y al día siguiente se purificó con ellos y entró en el templo para dar a conocer los días cuando se cumpliría la purificación y se presentaría la ofrenda por cada uno de ellos.

Then Paul, having taken the men, on the following day, with them having purified himself, was entering into the temple, announcing the fulfilment of the days of the purification, till the offering was offered for each one of them.

27 C uando estaban por cumplirse los siete días, unos judíos de la provincia de Asia lo vieron en el templo, así que alborotaron a toda la multitud y lo aprehendieron,

And, as the seven days were about to be fully ended, the Jews from Asia having beheld him in the temple, were stirring up all the multitude, and they laid hands upon him,

28 a l tiempo que gritaban: «¡Varones israelitas, vengan a ayudarnos! Éste es el hombre que por todas partes anda esparciendo sus enseñanzas en contra del pueblo, de la ley y de este lugar. Y no sólo eso, sino que ha metido a unos griegos en el templo, con lo que ha profanado este santo lugar.»

crying out, `Men, Israelites, help! this is the man who, against the people, and the law, and this place, all everywhere is teaching; and further, also, Greeks he brought into the temple, and hath defiled this holy place;'

29 Y es que en la ciudad ya habían visto a Pablo con Trófimo, el de Éfeso, y pensaban que Pablo lo había metido en el templo.

for they had seen before Trophimus, the Ephesian, in the city with him, whom they were supposing that Paul brought into the temple.

30 A sí que había mucha inquietud en toda la ciudad; la gente se agolpó y se apoderó de Pablo, y entre todos lo sacaron del templo a rastras, y enseguida cerraron las puertas,

All the city also was moved and there was a running together of the people, and having laid hold on Paul, they were drawing him out of the temple, and immediately were the doors shut,

31 p ues querían matarlo. Pero se dio aviso al tribuno de la compañía, de que había mucho alboroto en la ciudad de Jerusalén,

and they seeking to kill him, a rumour came to the chief captain of the band that all Jerusalem hath been thrown into confusion,

32 y éste tomó soldados y centuriones, y se fue tras ellos. Cuando la gente vio al tribuno y a los soldados, dejó de golpear a Pablo.

who, at once, having taken soldiers and centurions, ran down upon them, and they having seen the chief captain and the soldiers, did leave off beating Paul.

33 E ntonces llegó el tribuno y lo aprehendió, y ordenó que lo encadenaran; luego le preguntó quién era y qué había hecho.

Then the chief captain, having come nigh, took him, and commanded to be bound with two chains, and was inquiring who he may be, and what it is he hath been doing,

34 E ntre la multitud, unos gritaban una cosa, y otros, otra; y como a causa del alboroto el tribuno no podía entender nada con claridad, mandó que lo llevaran a la fortaleza.

and some were crying out one thing, and some another, among the multitude, and not being able to know the certainty because of the tumult, he commanded him to be carried to the castle,

35 A l llegar a las gradas, los soldados tuvieron que llevarlo en vilo, pues la multitud estaba muy violenta,

and when he came upon the steps, it happened he was borne by the soldiers, because of the violence of the multitude,

36 y todo el pueblo que venía detrás gritaba: «¡Mátenlo!» Defensa de Pablo ante el pueblo

for the crowd of the people was following after, crying, `Away with him.'

37 C uando estaban por meter a Pablo en la fortaleza, éste le dijo al tribuno: «¿Me permites decirte algo?» Y el tribuno respondió: «¿Sabes griego?

And Paul being about to be led into the castle, saith to the chief captain, `Is it permitted to me to say anything unto thee?' and he said, `Greek dost thou know?

38 ¿ Acaso no eres tú aquel egipcio sedicioso, que hace poco se sublevó y llevó al desierto a cuatro mil sicarios?»

art not thou, then, the Egyptian who before these days made an uprising, and did lead into the desert the four thousand men of the assassins?'

39 P ablo le dijo: «No. Soy judío, y nací en Tarso de Cilicia, que no es una ciudad insignificante. Te ruego que me permitas hablar al pueblo.»

And Paul said, `I, indeed, am a man, a Jew, of Tarsus of Cilicia, of no mean city a citizen; and I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.'

40 E l tribuno se lo permitió. Entonces Pablo, de pie en las gradas, hizo una señal con la mano al pueblo, para que se callaran. En cuanto hubo silencio, les dijo en arameo:

And he having given him leave, Paul having stood upon the stairs, did beckon with the hand to the people, and there having been a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew dialect, saying:
