1 C uando Balaam se dio cuenta de que al Señor le parecía bien que él bendijera a Israel, ya no recurrió a las artes de hechicería, como lo había hecho la primera y la segunda vez, sino que dirigió la mirada hacia el desierto.

And Balaam seeth that good in the eyes of Jehovah to bless Israel, and he hath not gone as time by time to meet enchantments, and he setteth towards the wilderness his face;

2 A l levantar la vista, pudo ver a Israel asentado por orden tribal. Entonces el espíritu de Dios vino sobre él,

and Balaam lifteth up his eyes, and seeth Israel tabernacling, by its tribes, and the Spirit of God is upon him,

3 y él pronunció estas palabras proféticas: «Así dice Balaam hijo de Beor; así dice el hombre de penetrante mirada;

and he taketh up his simile, and saith: `An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor -- And an affirmation of the man whose eyes are shut --

4 a sí dice el que oye la voz de Dios, el que recibe visiones del Omnipotente, el que postrado mantiene abiertos los ojos:

An affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- Who a vision of the Almighty seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:

5 » ¡Qué hermosas son tus tiendas, Jacob! ¡Qué hermosas son tus habitaciones, Israel!

How good have been thy tents, O Jacob, Thy tabernacles, O Israel;

6 E xpandidas, como los arroyos; como los huertos a la vera del río, como los áloes que el Señor ha plantado, como los cedros cercanos a las aguas.

As valleys they have been stretched out, As gardens by a river; As aloes Jehovah hath planted, As cedars by waters;

7 D e sus afluentes mana agua en abundancia; sus semillas estarán bien regadas. Su rey es más importante que Agag, y su reinado será enaltecido.

He maketh water flow from his buckets, And his seed in many waters; And higher than Agag his king, And exalted is his kingdom.

8 » Dios lo sacó de Egipto, y le infundió las fuerzas de un búfalo. Devorará a las naciones enemigas, les desmenuzará los huesos, y las traspasará con sus saetas.

God is bringing him out of Egypt; As the swiftness of a Reem is to him, He eateth up nations his adversaries, And their bones he breaketh, And his arrows he smiteth,

9 S e pone al acecho, como un león; se agazapa como leona: ¿quién lo azuzará? ¡Benditos sean quienes lo bendigan! ¡Malditos sean quienes lo maldigan!» Profecía de Balaam

He hath bent, he hath lain down as a lion, And as a lioness: who doth raise him up? He who is blessing thee blessed, And he who is cursing thee cursed.'

10 E n ese instante la ira de Balac se encendió contra Balaam, y agitando las manos le dijo: «Yo te hice venir para que maldijeras a mis enemigos, ¡y ya van tres veces que los bendices!

And the anger of Balak burneth against Balaam, and he striketh his hands; and Balak saith unto Balaam, `To pierce mine enemies I called thee, and lo, thou hast certainly blessed -- these three times;

11 ¡ Mejor lárgate a tu casa! Yo había prometido colmarte de riquezas, pero es el Señor quien te ha privado de recibirlas.»

and now, flee for thyself unto thy place; I have said, I do greatly honour thee, and lo, Jehovah hath kept thee back from honour.'

12 B alaam le respondió: «¿Acaso no se lo advertí a los mensajeros que me enviaste? Yo les dije:

And Balaam saith unto Balak, `Did I not also unto thy messengers whom thou hast sent unto me, speak, saying,

13 “ Aun si Balac me da su casa llena de oro y plata, yo no podré desobedecer las órdenes del Señor, ni hacer nada bueno o malo por mi propia voluntad. Yo diré sólo aquello que el Señor me ordene decir.”

If Balak doth give to me the fulness of his house of silver and gold, I am not able to pass over the command of Jehovah, to do good or evil of mine own heart -- that which Jehovah speaketh -- it I speak?

14 C omo puedes ver, yo estoy regresando a mi pueblo. Pero ven conmigo, que voy a indicarte lo que este pueblo hará con tu pueblo en los últimos tiempos.»

and, now, lo, I am going to my people; come, I counsel thee that which this people doth to thy people, in the latter end of the days.'

15 Y Balaam pronunció estas palabras proféticas: «Así dice Balaam hijo de Beor; así dice el hombre de penetrante mirada;

And he taketh up his simile, and saith: `An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor -- And an affirmation of the man whose eyes shut --

16 a sí dice el que oye la voz de Dios, el que tiene los conocimientos del Altísimo, el que recibe visiones del Omnipotente, el que postrado mantiene abiertos los ojos:

An affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- And knowing knowledge of the Most High; A vision of the Almighty he seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:

17 » Yo lo veré, pero no en este momento; lo contemplaré, pero no de cerca. De Jacob saldrá una estrella; un cetro surgirá en Israel, que herirá a Moab en las sienes y descalabrará a todos los hijos de Set.

I see it, but not now; I behold it, but not near; A star hath proceeded from Jacob, And a sceptre hath risen from Israel, And hath smitten corners of Moab, And hath destroyed all sons of Sheth.

18 E dom será conquistado; también Seir será tomado por sus enemigos. Pero Israel realizará grandes proezas.

And Edom hath been a possession, And Seir hath been a possession, its enemies, And Israel is doing valiantly;

19 D e Jacob saldrá un conquistador, y acabará con los que aún queden en la ciudad.»

And doth rule out of Jacob, And hath destroyed a remnant from Ar.'

20 L uego, Balaam se fijó en Amalec, y pronunció estas palabras proféticas: «Amalec es una nación importante, pero al final desaparecerá para siempre.»

And he seeth Amalek, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `A beginning of the Goyim Amalek; And his latter end -- for ever he perisheth.'

21 A l ver a los quenitas, Balaam pronunció estas palabras proféticas: «Tú habitas en un lugar seguro; has construido tu nido en la roca.

And he seeth the Kenite, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `Enduring thy dwelling, And setting in a rock thy nest,

22 C on todo, quenita, serás echado al fuego, y Asiria te llevará cautivo.»

But the Kenite is for a burning; Till when doth Asshur keep thee captive?'

23 Y Balaam pronunció también estas palabras proféticas: «¡Ay! ¿quién podrá seguir con vida cuando Dios se decida a actuar?

And he taketh up his simile, and saith: `Alas! who doth live when God doth this?

24 D e las costas de Quitín vendrán naves que afligirán a Asiria, lo mismo que a Éber, pues también ellos perecerán para siempre.»

And -- ships from the side of Chittim, And they have humbled Asshur, And they have humbled Eber, And it also for ever is perishing.'

25 D icho esto, Balaam se fue de allí y volvió al lugar de donde había venido, y también Balac se fue por su camino.

And Balaam riseth, and goeth, and turneth back to his place, and Balak also hath gone on his way.
