1 C uando Balaam vio que agradaba al Señor bendecir a Israel, no fue como otras veces a buscar agüeros, sino que puso su rostro hacia el desierto.

And Balaam seeth that good in the eyes of Jehovah to bless Israel, and he hath not gone as time by time to meet enchantments, and he setteth towards the wilderness his face;

2 Y levantó Balaam sus ojos y vio a Israel acampado por tribus; y vino sobre él el Espíritu de Dios.

and Balaam lifteth up his eyes, and seeth Israel tabernacling, by its tribes, and the Spirit of God is upon him,

3 Y comenzando su profecía, dijo: Oráculo de Balaam, hijo de Beor, y oráculo del hombre de ojos abiertos;

and he taketh up his simile, and saith: `An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor -- And an affirmation of the man whose eyes are shut --

4 o ráculo del que escucha las palabras de Dios, del que ve la visión del Todopoderoso; caído, pero con los ojos descubiertos.

An affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- Who a vision of the Almighty seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:

5 ¡ Cuán hermosas son tus tiendas, oh Jacob; tus moradas, oh Israel!

How good have been thy tents, O Jacob, Thy tabernacles, O Israel;

6 C omo valles que se extienden, como jardines junto al río, como áloes plantados por el Señor, como cedros junto a las aguas.

As valleys they have been stretched out, As gardens by a river; As aloes Jehovah hath planted, As cedars by waters;

7 A gua correrá de sus baldes, y su simiente estará junto a muchas aguas; más grande que Agag será su rey, y su reino será exaltado.

He maketh water flow from his buckets, And his seed in many waters; And higher than Agag his king, And exalted is his kingdom.

8 D ios lo saca de Egipto; es para él como los cuernos del búfalo. Devorará a las naciones que son sus adversarios, y desmenuzará sus huesos, y los traspasará con sus saetas.

God is bringing him out of Egypt; As the swiftness of a Reem is to him, He eateth up nations his adversaries, And their bones he breaketh, And his arrows he smiteth,

9 S e agazapa, se echa como león, o como leona ¿quién se atreverá a despertarlo ? Benditos los que te bendigan, y malditos los que te maldigan. Cuarta profecía

He hath bent, he hath lain down as a lion, And as a lioness: who doth raise him up? He who is blessing thee blessed, And he who is cursing thee cursed.'

10 E ntonces se encendió la ira de Balac contra Balaam, y palmoteando, dijo Balac a Balaam: Te llamé para maldecir a mis enemigos, pero he aquí, los has llenado de bendiciones estas tres veces.

And the anger of Balak burneth against Balaam, and he striketh his hands; and Balak saith unto Balaam, `To pierce mine enemies I called thee, and lo, thou hast certainly blessed -- these three times;

11 A hora pues, huye a tu lugar. Yo dije que te colmaría de honores, pero mira, el Señor te ha privado de honores.

and now, flee for thyself unto thy place; I have said, I do greatly honour thee, and lo, Jehovah hath kept thee back from honour.'

12 Y Balaam dijo a Balac: ¿No les hablé yo también a los mensajeros que me enviaste, diciendo:

And Balaam saith unto Balak, `Did I not also unto thy messengers whom thou hast sent unto me, speak, saying,

13 “ Aunque Balac me diera su casa llena de plata y oro, no podría yo traspasar el mandamiento del Señor para hacer lo bueno o lo malo de mi propia iniciativa. Lo que hable el Señor, eso hablaré ”?

If Balak doth give to me the fulness of his house of silver and gold, I am not able to pass over the command of Jehovah, to do good or evil of mine own heart -- that which Jehovah speaketh -- it I speak?

14 A hora, mira, me voy a mi pueblo; pero ven, y te advertiré lo que este pueblo hará a tu pueblo en los días venideros.

and, now, lo, I am going to my people; come, I counsel thee that which this people doth to thy people, in the latter end of the days.'

15 Y comenzando su profecía, dijo: Oráculo de Balaam, hijo de Beor, y oráculo del hombre de ojos abiertos.

And he taketh up his simile, and saith: `An affirmation of Balaam son of Beor -- And an affirmation of the man whose eyes shut --

16 O ráculo del que escucha las palabras de Dios, y conoce la sabiduría del Altísimo; del que ve la visión del Todopoderoso, caído, pero con los ojos descubiertos.

An affirmation of him who is hearing sayings of God -- And knowing knowledge of the Most High; A vision of the Almighty he seeth, Falling -- and eyes uncovered:

17 L o veo, pero no ahora; lo contemplo, pero no cerca; una estrella saldrá de Jacob, y un cetro se levantará de Israel que aplastará la frente de Moab y derrumbará a todos los hijos de Set.

I see it, but not now; I behold it, but not near; A star hath proceeded from Jacob, And a sceptre hath risen from Israel, And hath smitten corners of Moab, And hath destroyed all sons of Sheth.

18 E dom será una posesión, también será una posesión Seir, su enemigo; mientras que Israel se conducirá con valor.

And Edom hath been a possession, And Seir hath been a possession, its enemies, And Israel is doing valiantly;

19 D e Jacob saldrá el que tendrá dominio, y destruirá al remanente de la ciudad.

And doth rule out of Jacob, And hath destroyed a remnant from Ar.'

20 A l ver a Amalec, continuó su profecía, y dijo: Amalec fue la primera de las naciones, pero su fin será destrucción.

And he seeth Amalek, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `A beginning of the Goyim Amalek; And his latter end -- for ever he perisheth.'

21 D espués vio al ceneo, y continuó su profecía, y dijo: Perdurable es tu morada, y en la peña está puesto tu nido.

And he seeth the Kenite, and taketh up his simile, and saith: `Enduring thy dwelling, And setting in a rock thy nest,

22 N o obstante, el ceneo será consumido; ¿hasta cuándo te tendrá cautivo Asiria ?

But the Kenite is for a burning; Till when doth Asshur keep thee captive?'

23 Y continuando su profecía, dijo: ¡Ay! ¿Quién puede vivir, si Dios no lo ha ordenado?

And he taketh up his simile, and saith: `Alas! who doth live when God doth this?

24 P ero las naves vendrán de la costa de Quitim, y afligirán a Asiria y afligirán a Heber; pero él también perecerá para siempre.

And -- ships from the side of Chittim, And they have humbled Asshur, And they have humbled Eber, And it also for ever is perishing.'

25 E ntonces se levantó Balaam y se marchó, y volvió a su lugar; también Balac se fue por su camino.

And Balaam riseth, and goeth, and turneth back to his place, and Balak also hath gone on his way.
