1 L os filisteos pelearon contra Israel y los hombres de Israel huyeron delante de los filisteos y cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.

And the Philistines have fought with Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,

2 L os filisteos persiguieron muy de cerca a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

and the Philistines pursue after Saul, and after his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-Shua, sons of Saul.

3 Y arreció la batalla contra Saúl, los arqueros lo alcanzaron y fue herido por ellos.

And the battle heavy on Saul, and those shooting with the bow find him, and he is wounded by those shooting,

4 E ntonces Saúl dijo a su escudero: Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y hagan burla de mí. Pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Por lo cual Saúl tomó su espada y se echó sobre ella.

and Saul saith unto the bearer of his weapons, `Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised come -- and have abused me.' And the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he feareth exceedingly, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it;

5 A l ver su escudero que Saúl había muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y murió.

and the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul dead, and falleth, he also, on the sword, and dieth;

6 A sí murió Saúl con sus tres hijos, y todos los de su casa murieron juntamente con él.

and Saul dieth, and his three sons, and all his house -- together they died.

7 C uando todos los hombres de Israel que estaban en el valle, vieron que ellos habían huido y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron; entonces los filisteos vinieron y habitaron en ellas.

And all the men of Israel who in the valley see that they have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake their cities and flee, and the Philistines come and dwell in them.

8 Y sucedió que al día siguiente, cuando vinieron los filisteos para despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos caídos en el monte Gilboa.

And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and find Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa,

9 L o despojaron, tomaron su cabeza y sus armas y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para que llevaran las buenas nuevas a sus ídolos y al pueblo.

and strip him, and bear away his head, and his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about to proclaim tidings their idols and the people,

10 P usieron su armadura en la casa de sus dioses y clavaron su cabeza en la casa de Dagón.

and put his weapons in the house of their gods, and his skull they have fixed in the house of Dagon.

11 C uando oyeron los de Jabes de Galaad todo lo que los filisteos habían hecho a Saúl,

And all Jabesh-Gilead hear of all that the Philistines have done to Saul,

12 s e levantaron todos los hombres valientes y se llevaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos, los trajeron a Jabes y enterraron sus huesos bajo la encina en Jabes, y ayunaron siete días.

and all the men of valour rise and bear away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and bring them in to Jabesh, and bury their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

13 A sí murió Saúl por la transgresión que cometió contra el Señor por no haber guardado la palabra del Señor, y también porque consultó y pidió consejo a una médium,

And Saul dieth because of his trespass that he trespassed against Jehovah, against the word of Jehovah that he kept not, and also for asking at a familiar spirit -- to inquire, --

14 y no consultó al Señor. Por tanto, El le quitó la vida y transfirió el reino a David, hijo de Isaí.

and he inquired not at Jehovah, and He putteth him to death, and turneth round the kingdom to David son of Jesse.
