1 Ф илистимляне воевали с Израилем, и израильтяне бежали от них, и многие падали сраженными на горе Гильбоа.

And the Philistines have fought with Israel, and the men of Israel flee from the face of the Philistines, and fall wounded in mount Gilboa,

2 Ф илистимляне нагнали Саула и его сыновей и убили его сыновей Ионафана, Авинадава и Малхи-Шуа.

and the Philistines pursue after Saul, and after his sons, and the Philistines smite Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-Shua, sons of Saul.

3 В округ Саула усилилось сражение, и когда лучники нашли его, они его ранили.

And the battle heavy on Saul, and those shooting with the bow find him, and he is wounded by those shooting,

4 С аул сказал своему оруженосцу: – Обнажи меч и заколи меня, иначе эти необрезанные придут и станут глумиться надо мной. Но его оруженосец не решился сделать это, потому что очень испугался. Тогда Саул взял свой собственный меч и упал на него.

and Saul saith unto the bearer of his weapons, `Draw thy sword, and pierce me with it, lest these uncircumcised come -- and have abused me.' And the bearer of his weapons hath not been willing, for he feareth exceedingly, and Saul taketh the sword, and falleth upon it;

5 К огда оруженосец увидел, что Саул мертв, он тоже бросился на свой меч и умер.

and the bearer of his weapons seeth that Saul dead, and falleth, he also, on the sword, and dieth;

6 Т ак погибли Саул и его три сына, и вместе с ними погиб весь его дом.

and Saul dieth, and his three sons, and all his house -- together they died.

7 К огда все израильтяне, которые были в долине, увидели, что войско бежало, а Саул и его сыновья погибли, они оставили свои города и тоже бежали. А филистимляне пришли и заняли их.

And all the men of Israel who in the valley see that they have fled, and that Saul and his sons have died, and they forsake their cities and flee, and the Philistines come and dwell in them.

8 Н а следующий день, когда филистимляне пришли грабить мертвых, они нашли Саула и его сыновей, павших на горе Гильбоа.

And it cometh to pass, on the morrow, that the Philistines come to strip the wounded, and find Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa,

9 О ни обобрали его, отрубили ему голову, сняли с него оружие и послали вестников по всей филистимской земле, чтобы возвестить об этом в капище своих идолов и народу.

and strip him, and bear away his head, and his weapons, and send into the land of the Philistines round about to proclaim tidings their idols and the people,

10 О ни положили его оружие в храме своих богов, а голову его повесили в храме Дагона.

and put his weapons in the house of their gods, and his skull they have fixed in the house of Dagon.

11 К огда весь галаадский город Иавеш услышал обо всем, что филистимляне сделали с Саулом,

And all Jabesh-Gilead hear of all that the Philistines have done to Saul,

12 т о все их храбрые воины отправились в путь, взяли тела Саула и его сыновей и перенесли их в Иавеш. Они погребли их кости под иавешским дубом и постились семь дней.

and all the men of valour rise and bear away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and bring them in to Jabesh, and bury their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fast seven days.

13 С аул погиб, потому что нарушил верность Господу. Он не слушался Господнего слова; он обратился с вопросом к колдунье,

And Saul dieth because of his trespass that he trespassed against Jehovah, against the word of Jehovah that he kept not, and also for asking at a familiar spirit -- to inquire, --

14 а Господа не вопросил. Господь предал его смерти и передал его царство Давиду, сыну Иессея.

and he inquired not at Jehovah, and He putteth him to death, and turneth round the kingdom to David son of Jesse.
