1 И было к Ионе слово Господне во второй раз:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto Jonah a second time, saying,

2 – Собирайся, ступай в великий город Ниневию и возвести там то, что Я тебе говорю.

`Rise, go unto Nineveh, the great city, and proclaim unto it the proclamation that I am speaking unto thee;'

3 И она послушался Господнего слова и, собравшись, пошел в Ниневию. Ниневия была огромным городом – обойти ее можно было только за три дня.

and Jonah riseth, and he goeth unto Nineveh, according to the word of Jehovah. And Nineveh hath been a great city before God, a journey of three days.

4 И Иона начал ходить по городу, проходя столько, сколько можно пройти за день, и стал возвещать: «Еще сорок дней и Ниневия будет разрушена!».

And Jonah beginneth to go in to the city a journey of one day, and proclaimeth, and saith, `Yet forty days -- and Nineveh is overturned.'

5 Н иневитяне поверили Богу и объявили пост, и все – от большого до малого – оделись в рубище.

And the men of Nineveh believe in God, and proclaim a fast, and put on sackcloth, from their greatest even unto their least,

6 К огда эта весть дошла до царя Ниневии, он встал со своего престола, снял свои царские одежды, надел рубище и сел в пепел.

seeing the word doth come unto the king of Nineveh, and he riseth from his throne, and removeth his honourable robe from off him, and spreadeth out sackcloth, and sitteth on the ashes,

7 О н велел объявить в Ниневии: «Указ царя и его приближенных: Пусть ни люди, ни скот, ни крупный, ни мелкий, не принимают пищи, не ходят на пастбища и не пьют воды.

and he crieth and saith in Nineveh by a decree of the king and his great ones, saying, `Man and beast, herd and flock -- let them not taste anything, let them not feed, even water let them not drink;

8 П усть и людей, и скот оденут в рубища. Пусть каждый изо всех сил призывает Бога. Пусть они отвернутся от своих злых путей и жестокости.

and cover themselves sackcloth let man and beast, and let them call unto God mightily, and let them turn back each from his evil way, and from the violence that in their hands.

9 К то знает, может быть, Бог еще сжалится над нами и передумает, сменит Свой пылающий гнев на милость, и мы не погибнем».

Who knoweth? He doth turn back, and God hath repented, and hath turned back from the heat of His anger, and we do not perish.'

10 К огда Бог увидел то, что они сделали, и как они отвернулись от своих злых путей, Он смилостивился и не стал насылать на них беду, которой Он им грозил.

And God seeth their works, that they have turned back from their evil way, and God repenteth of the evil that He spake of doing to them, and he hath not done.
