1 К огда Санбаллат услышал о том, что мы строим стену, он разозлился и сильно разгневался. Он издевался над иудеями

And it cometh to pass, when Sanballat hath heard that we are building the wall, that it is displeasing to him, and he is very angry and mocketh at the Jews,

2 и перед своими союзниками и самарийским войском говорил: – Что делают эти жалкие иудеи? Неужели они восстановят свою стену? Неужели они станут приносить жертвы? Неужели они когда-нибудь закончат строительство? Неужто они оживят камни, притом обожженные, из этих груд праха?

and saith before his brethren and the force of Samaria, yea, he saith, `What the weak Jews doing? are they left to themselves? do they sacrifice? do they complete in a day? do they revive the stones out of the heaps of the rubbish? -- and they burnt!'

3 А ммонитянин Товия, стоящий рядом с ним, сказал: – Да что они там строят, если даже лисица, взобравшись на эту каменную стену, обрушит ее!

And Tobiah the Ammonite by him and saith, `Also, that which they are building -- if a fox doth go up, then it hath broken down their stone wall.'

4 У слышь нас, Боже наш, потому что мы в презрении. Обрати их оскорбления на их же головы. Отдай их как добычу в землю плена.

Hear, O our God, for we have been despised; and turn back their reproach on their own head, and give them for a spoil in a land of captivity;

5 Н е покрывай их вины и грехов их не удаляй от Своих глаз, потому что они оскорбляли строителей.

and do not cover over their iniquity, and their sin from before Thee let not be blotted out, for they have provoked to anger -- over-against those building.

6 И мы строили стену, и она достигла половины своей высоты, потому что народ работал от всего сердца.

And we build the wall, and all the wall is joined -- unto its half, and the people have a heart to work.

7 Н о когда Санбаллат, Товия, арабы с аммонитянами и жители Ашдода услышали о том, что восстановление иерусалимских стен продвигается и проломы заделываются, они очень разозлились.

And it cometh to pass, when Sanballat hath heard, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, that lengthening hath gone up to the walls of Jerusalem, that the breeches have begun to be stopped, then it is very displeasing to them,

8 В се вместе они сговорились пойти на Иерусалим войной и устроить в нем беспорядки.

and they conspire, all of them together, to come in to fight against Jerusalem, and to do to it injury.

9 Н о мы молились нашему Богу и выставляли против них стражу днем и ночью, чтобы отвратить эту угрозу.

And we pray unto our God, and appoint a watch against them, by day and by night, because of them.

10 А тем временем народ иудейский говорил: – Силы носильщиков на исходе, а здесь так много мусора, что мы не можем отстраивать стену.

And Judah saith, `The power of the burden-bearers hath become feeble, and the rubbish abundant, and we are not able to build on the wall.'

11 А наши враги говорили: – Прежде чем они узнают о том, что происходит, или увидят нас, мы окажемся прямо среди них, перебьем их и остановим работу.

And our adversaries say, `They do not know, nor see, till that we come in to their midst, and have slain them, and caused the work to cease.'

12 И удеи, которые жили рядом с ними, приходили и раз десять говорили нам: – Со всех сторон они пойдут на нас.

And it cometh to pass, when the Jews have come who are dwelling near them, that they say to us ten times from all the places whither ye return -- against us.

13 Т огда я разместил народ за самыми низкими участками стены на открытых местах, поставив их по семьям, с мечами, копьями и луками.

And I appoint at the lowest of the places, at the back of the wall, in the clear places, yea, I appoint the people, by their families, with their swords, their spears, and their bows.

14 О смотрев все, я встал и сказал знати, приближенным и остальному народу: – Не бойтесь их. Помните Владыку, Который велик и грозен, и сражайтесь за своих братьев, сыновей, дочерей, жен и дома.

And I see, and rise up, and say unto the freemen, and unto the prefects, and unto the rest of the people, `Be not afraid of them; the Lord, the great and the fearful, remember ye, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.'

15 К огда наши враги услышали, что мы знаем об их сговоре и о том, что Бог расстроил их планы, мы все вернулись к стене, каждый – к своей работе.

And it cometh to pass, when our enemies have heard that it hath been known to us, and God doth frustrate their counsel, and we turn back, all of us, unto the wall, each unto his work;

16 С того дня и впредь половина моих слуг трудилась на постройке, а другая половина держала копья, щиты, луки и латы. Вожди находились позади всего дома иудейского,

yea, it cometh to pass, from that day, half of my servants are working in the business, and half of them are keeping hold of both the spears, the shields, and the bows, and the coats of mail; and the heads behind all the house of Judah.

17 к оторый строил стену. Носильщики тяжестей делали свою работу одной рукой, а в другой держали оружие,

The builders on the wall, and the bearers of the burden, those lading, with one of his hands is working in the business, and one is laying hold of the missile.

18 и каждый из строителей во время работы был препоясан мечом. А трубач находился рядом со мной.

And the builders each with his sword, girded on his loins, and building, and he who is blowing with a trumpet beside me.

19 И я сказал знати, приближенным и остальному народу: – Работа велика и обширна, и мы разбросаны по стене далеко друг от друга.

And I say unto the freemen, and unto the prefects, and unto the rest of the people, `The work is abundant, and large, and we are separated on the wall, far off one from another;

20 Г де бы вы ни услышали звук рога, бегите к нам туда, откуда доносится звук. Наш Бог будет сражаться за нас!

in the place that ye hear the voice of the trumpet thither ye are gathered unto us; our God doth fight for us.'

21 И мы продолжали работу, и половина людей держали копья от восхода первых лучей до появления звезд.

And we are working in the business, and half of them are keeping hold of the spears, from the going up of the dawn till the coming forth of the stars.

22 В то время я еще сказал народу: – Пусть каждый человек и его помощник ночуют в Иерусалиме, чтобы они могли сторожить ночью и работать днем.

Also, at that time I said to the people, `Let each with his servant lodge in the midst of Jerusalem, and they have been to us by night a guard, and by day the work:'

23 Н и я, ни мои братья, ни мои слуги, ни стражники, которые меня сопровождали, не снимали одежд; каждый держал свое оружие, когда ходил за водой.

and there are none -- I and my brethren and my servants, the men of the guard who after me -- there are none of us putting off our garments, each his vessel of water.
