1 С амуил сказал Израилю: − Я послушался вас во всем, что вы мне сказали, и поставил над вами царя.

And Samuel saith unto all Israel, `Lo, I have hearkened to your voice, to all that ye said to me, and I cause to reign over you a king,

2 Т еперь ваш вождь − царь. А я стар и сед, но мои сыновья здесь с вами. Я был вашим вождем с юности до сегодняшнего дня.

and now, lo, the king is walking habitually before you, and I have become aged and gray-headed, and my sons, lo, they with you, and I have walked habitually before you from my youth till this day.

3 В от я. Свидетельствуйте против меня в присутствии Господа и Его помазанника. Чьего вола я взял? Чьего осла? Кого обманул? Кого притеснял? У кого я брал взятку, чтобы ею закрыть себе глаза? Свидетельствуйте против меня, и я верну вам то, что взял.

`Lo, here I; testify against me, over-against Jehovah, and over-against His anointed; whose ox have I taken, and whose ass have I taken, and whom have I oppressed; whom have I bruised, and of whose hand have I taken a ransom, and hide mine eyes with it? -- and I restore to you.'

4 − Ты не обманывал и не притеснял нас, − ответили они. − Ты ничего ни у кого не брал.

And they say, `Thou hast not oppressed us, nor hast thou crushed us, nor hast thou taken from the hand of any one anything.'

5 С амуил сказал им: − Господь свидетель против вас, и Его помазанник также свидетель сегодня, что вы ничего не нашли за мной. – Он свидетель, − сказали они.

And he saith unto them, `A witness Jehovah against you: and a witness His anointed this day, that ye have not found anything in my hand;' and they say, `A witness.'

6 Т огда Самуил сказал народу: − Свидетель Господь, Который избрал Моисея и Аарона и вывел ваших отцов из Египта.

And Samuel saith unto the people, `Jehovah -- He who made Moses and Aaron, and who brought up your fathers out of the land of Egypt!

7 И так, встаньте здесь, а я буду судиться с вами перед Господом о всех спасительных делах Господа, которые Он совершил для вас и ваших отцов.

and, now, station yourselves, and I judge you before Jehovah, with all the righteous acts of Jehovah, which He did with you, and with your fathers.

8 П осле того как Иаков пришел в Египет и египтяне стали угнетать его потомков, они воззвали к Господу о помощи, и Господь послал Моисея и Аарона, которые вывели ваших отцов из Египта и поселили здесь.

`When Jacob hath come in to Egypt, and your fathers cry unto Jehovah, then Jehovah sendeth Moses and Aaron, and they bring out your fathers from Egypt, and cause them to dwell in this place,

9 Н о они забыли Господа, их Бога, и Он отдал их в руки Сисары, начальника войска Хацора, и в руки филистимлян и царя Моава, которые воевали против них.

and they forget Jehovah their God, and He selleth them into the hand of Sisera, head of the host of Hazor, and into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the king of Moab, and they fight against them,

10 О ни воззвали к Господу и сказали: «Мы согрешили. Мы оставили Господа и служили Баалам и Астартам. Но теперь спаси нас от врагов, и мы будем служить Тебе».

and they cry unto Jehovah, and say, We have sinned, because we have forsaken Jehovah, and serve the Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and now, deliver us out of the hand of our enemies, and we serve Thee.

11 Т огда Господь послал Еруббаала, Варака, Иеффая и Самуила и спас вас от окружавших вас врагов, чтобы вы жили в безопасности.

`And Jehovah sendeth Jerubbaal, and Bedan, and Jephthah, and Samuel, and delivereth you out of the hand of your enemies round about, and ye dwell confidently.

12 Н о когда вы увидели, что Нахаш, царь аммонитян, двинулся против вас, вы сказали мне: «Нет, мы хотим, чтобы нами правил царь», − несмотря на то, что вашим царем был Бог.

`And ye see that Nahash king of the Bene-Ammon hath come against you, and ye say to me, Nay, but a king doth reign over us; and Jehovah your God your king!

13 И так, вот ваш царь, которого вы выбрали, тот, о ком вы просили. Господь поставил над вами царя.

And, now, lo, the king whom ye have chosen -- whom ye have asked! and lo, Jehovah hath placed over you a king.

14 Е сли вы будете бояться Господа, служить Ему и слушаться Его, не станете бунтовать против Его повелений, и если и вы, и царь, который станет править вами, будете следовать Господу, вашему Богу − прекрасно!

`If ye fear Jehovah, and have served Him, and hearkened to His voice, then ye do not provoke the mouth of Jehovah, and ye have been -- both ye and the king who hath reigned over you -- after Jehovah your God.

15 Н о если вы не будете слушаться Господа и станете бунтовать против Его повелений, Его рука будет против вас, как была против ваших отцов.

`And if ye do not hearken to the voice of Jehovah -- then ye have provoked the mouth of Jehovah, and the hand of Jehovah hath been against you, and against your fathers.

16 Т еперь встаньте и посмотрите на то великое дело, которое Господь совершит у вас на глазах!

`Also now, station yourselves and see this great thing which Jehovah is doing before your eyes;

17 Н е жатва ли сейчас пшеницы? Но я воззову к Господу, и Он пошлет гром и дождь. Тогда вы поймете, какой грех в глазах Господа вы совершили, когда просили о царе.

is it not wheat-harvest to-day? I call unto Jehovah, and He doth give voices and rain; and know ye and see that your evil is great which ye have done in the eyes of Jehovah, to ask for you a king.'

18 С амуил воззвал к Господу, и в тот же день Господь послал гром и дождь. Весь народ очень испугался Господа и Самуила.

And Samuel calleth unto Jehovah, and Jehovah giveth voices and rain, on that day, and all the people greatly fear Jehovah and Samuel;

19 В есь народ сказал Самуилу: − Помолись Господу, твоему Богу, за твоих слуг, чтобы нам не умереть, ведь ко всем нашим прочим грехам мы прибавили еще один, попросив себе царя.

and all the people say unto Samuel, `Pray for thy servants unto Jehovah thy God, and we do not die, for we have added to all our sins evil to ask for us a king.'

20 − Не бойтесь, − ответил Самуил. − Вы совершили зло, но все-таки не отступайте от Господа, служите Господу от всего сердца.

And Samuel saith unto the people, `Fear not; ye have done all this evil; only, turn not aside from after Jehovah -- and ye have served Jehovah with all your heart,

21 Н е уклоняйтесь от Него вслед за никчемными идолами. Они не могут сделать никакого добра и не могут защитить вас, потому что они − ничто.

and ye do not turn aside after the vain things which do not profit nor deliver, for they vain,

22 Р ади Своего великого Имени Господь не отвергнет Свой народ, потому что Господу было угодно сделать вас Своим народом.

for Jehovah doth not leave His people, on account of His great name; for Jehovah hath been pleased to make you to Him for a people.

23 Ч то же до меня, то да не согрешу я перед Господом в том, что перестану молиться о вас. Я буду наставлять вас на добрый и правильный путь.

`I, also, far be it from me to sin against Jehovah, by ceasing to pray for you, and I have directed you in the good and upright way;

24 Т олько бойтесь Господа и верно служите Ему от всего сердца. Помните, какие великие дела Он для вас совершил.

only, fear ye Jehovah, and ye have served Him in truth with all your heart, for see that which He hath made great with you;

25 Н о если вы станете и дальше делать зло, то и вы, и ваш царь будете уничтожены.

and if ye really do evil, both ye and your king are consumed.'
