1 В енадад, царь Арама, собрал войско. С ним было тридцать два царя с конями и колесницами. Он выступил, осадил Самарию и повел войну против нее.

And Ben-Hadad king of Aram hath gathered all his force, and thirty and two kings with him, and horse and chariot, and he goeth up and layeth siege against Samaria, and fighteth with it,

2 О н отправил в город к царю Ахаву послов, чтобы сказать:

and sendeth messengers unto Ahab king of Israel, to the city,

3 Т ак говорит Венадад: «Твои серебро и золото – мои, и лучшие из твоих жен и детей мои».

and saith to him, `Thus said Ben-Hadad, `Thy silver and thy gold are mine, and thy wives and thy sons -- the best -- are mine.'

4 Ц арь Израиля ответил: – Как ты говоришь, господин мой царь, я и все, что у меня есть, твое.

And the king of Israel answereth and saith, `According to thy word, my lord, O king: I thine, and all that I have.'

5 П ослы пришли вновь и сказали: – Так говорит Венадад: «Я посылал к тебе требовать твоего серебра и золота, твоих жен и детей.

And the messengers turn back and say, `Thus spake Ben-Hadad, saying, Surely I sent unto thee, saying, Thy silver, and thy gold, and thy wives, and thy sons, to me thou dost give;

6 Н о завтра к этому времени я пошлю слуг обыскать твой дворец и дома твоих приближенных. Они возьмут все, что им понравится, и унесут с собой».

for if, at this time to-morrow, I send my servants unto thee then they have searched thy house, and the houses of thy servants, and it hath been, every desirable thing of thine eyes they place in their hand, and have taken away.'

7 Ц арь Израиля призвал всех старейшин страны и сказал им: – Смотрите, как этот человек ищет зла! Когда он посылал за моими женами и детьми, моим серебром и золотом, я не отказал ему.

And the king of Israel calleth to all the elders of the land, and saith, `Know, I pray you, and see that evil this is seeking, for he sent unto me for my wives, and for my sons, and for my silver, and for my gold, and I withheld not from him.'

8 В се старейшины и весь народ ответили ему: – Не слушай его и не уступай ему.

And all the elders and all the people say unto him, `Do not hearken, nor consent.'

9 Т огда он ответил послам Венадада: – Скажите господину моему царю: «То, чего ты требовал от твоего слуги в первый раз, я сделаю, а этого сделать не могу». Они ушли и передали этот ответ Венададу.

And he saith to the messengers of Ben-Hadad, `Say to my lord the king, All that thou didst send for unto thy servant at the first I do, and this thing I am not able to do;' and the messengers go and take him back word.

10 Т огда Венадад послал сказать Ахаву: – Пусть боги сурово накажут меня, если от Самарии останется достаточно праха, чтобы дать каждому из моих людей по пригоршне!

And Ben-Hadad sendeth unto him, and saith, `Thus do the gods to me, and thus do they add, if the dust of Samaria suffice for handfuls for all the people who at my feet.'

11 Ц арь Израиля ответил: – Скажите ему: «Воин, надевающий доспехи, не должен хвастать, как тот, кто их снимает после победы ».

And the king of Israel answereth and saith, `Speak ye: let not him who is girding on boast himself as him who is loosing.'

12 В енадад выслушал это, когда он и цари пили в своих палатках, и приказал своим людям: – Готовьтесь к бою! И они приготовились напасть на город. Первое поражение арамеев

And it cometh to pass at the hearing of this word -- and he is drinking, he and the kings, in the booths -- that he saith unto his servants, `Set yourselves;' and they set themselves against the city.

13 Т ем временем к Ахаву, царю Израиля, пришел пророк и возвестил ему: – Так говорит Господь: «Видишь это огромное войско? Сегодня Я отдам его в твои руки, и ты узнаешь, что Я – Господь».

And lo, a certain prophet hath come nigh unto Ahab king of Israel, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, `Hast thou seen all this great multitude? lo, I am giving it into thy hand to-day, and thou hast known that I Jehovah.'

14 – Но кто же сделает это? – спросил Ахав. Пророк ответил: – Так говорит Господь: «Молодые слуги наместников провинций». – А кто начнет сражение? – спросил он. – Ты, – ответил пророк.

And Ahab saith, `By whom?' and he saith, `Thus said Jehovah, By the young men of the heads of the provinces;' and he saith, `Who doth direct the battle?' and he saith, `Thou.'

15 Т огда Ахав призвал молодых слуг наместников провинций, двести тридцать два человека. Затем он собрал всех остальных израильтян – семь тысяч человек общим счетом.

And he inspecteth the young men of the heads of the provinces, and they are two hundred, two and thirty, and after them he hath inspecteth the whole of the people, all the sons of Israel, seven thousand,

16 О ни вышли в полдень, когда Венадад и тридцать два союзных с ним царя напились в своих шатрах.

and they go out at noon, and Ben-Hadad is drinking -- drunk in the booths, he and the kings, the thirty and two kings, helping him.

17 М олодые слуги наместников провинций вышли первыми. Венадад выслал лазутчиков, и те доложили ему: – Из Самарии выходят люди.

And the young men of the heads of the provinces go out at the first, and Ben-Hadad sendeth, and they declare to him, saying, `Men have come out of Samaria.'

18 О н сказал: – Пришли ли они с миром или с войной, возьмите их живыми.

And he saith, `If for peace they have come out -- catch them alive; and if for battle they have come out -- alive catch them.'

19 М олодые слуги наместников провинций и израильское войско, которое шло за ними, вышли из города.

And these have gone out of the city -- the young men of the heads of the provinces -- and the force that after them,

20 К аждый сразил своего противника, арамеи бежали, и Израиль преследовал их, но царь Арама Венадад спасся на коне вместе с другими всадниками.

and smite each his man, and Aram fleeth, and Israel pursueth them, and Ben-Hadad king of Aram escapeth on a horse, and the horsemen;

21 Ц арь Израиля продвинулся вперед, уничтожил коней и колесницы и нанес арамеям тяжелые потери.

and the king of Israel goeth out, and smiteth the horses, and the charioteers, and hath smitten among the Aramaeans a great smiting.

22 К царю Израиля пришел пророк и сказал ему: – Укрепись и посмотри, что тебе нужно сделать, потому что следующей весной царь Арама нападет на тебя вновь. Второе поражение арамеев

And the prophet cometh nigh unto the king of Israel, and saith to him, `Go, strengthen thyself, and know and see that which thou dost, for at the turn of the year the king of Aram is coming up against thee.'

23 Т ем временем приближенные царя Арама советовали ему: – Их Бог – это Бог гор. Вот почему они слишком сильны для нас. Но если мы сразимся с ними на равнине, мы непременно окажемся сильнее их.

And the servants of the king of Aram said unto him, `Gods of hills their gods, therefore they were stronger than we; and yet, we fight with them in the plain -- are we not stronger than they?

24 С делай вот что: убери всех царей с их мест в войске и замени другими военачальниками.

`And this thing do thou: turn aside the kings each out of his place, and set captains in their stead;

25 Е ще набери такое войско, как то, что ты потерял – коня вместо коня и колесницу вместо колесницы, – чтобы нам сразиться с Израилем на равнине. Тогда мы непременно окажемся сильнее их. Он согласился с ними и так и сделал.

and thou, number to thee a force as the force that is fallen from thee, and horse for horse, and chariot for chariot, and we fight with them in the plain; are we not stronger than they?' and he hearkeneth to their voice, and doth so.

26 С ледующей весной Венадад собрал арамеев и пошел к Афеку, чтобы сразиться с Израилем.

And it cometh to pass at the turn of the year, that Ben-Hadad inspecteth the Aramaeans, and goeth up to Aphek, to battle with Israel,

27 К огда израильтяне также были собраны и получили продовольствие и военные запасы, они выступили им навстречу. Израильтяне встали лагерем перед ними, как два маленьких козьих стада, а арамеи заполонили всю округу.

and the sons of Israel have been inspected, and supported, and go to meet them, and the sons of Israel encamp before them, like two flocks of goats, and the Aramaeans have filled the land.

28 Ч еловек Божий пришел к царю Израиля и сказал ему: – Так говорит Господь: «Раз арамеи говорят, что Господь – это Бог гор, а не Бог долин, Я отдам это огромное войско в твои руки, и вы узнаете, что Я – Господь».

And there cometh nigh a man of God, and speaketh unto the king of Israel, and saith, `Thus said Jehovah, Because that the Aramaeans have said, God of hills Jehovah, and He not God of valleys -- I have given the whole of this great multitude into thy hand, and ye have known that I Jehovah.'

29 С емь дней стояли они друг напротив друга, и на седьмой день разгорелась битва. Израильтяне нанесли арамеям потери в сто тысяч пеших воинов за один день.

And they encamp one over-against another seven days, and it cometh to pass on the seventh day, that the battle draweth near, and the sons of Israel smite Aram -- a hundred thousand footmen in one day.

30 О стальные бежали в город Афек, где на двадцать семь тысяч из них рухнула стена. Венадад тоже бежал в город и спрятался во внутренней комнате. Ахав щадит Венадада

And those left flee to Aphek, unto the city, and the wall falleth on twenty and seven chief men who are left, and Ben-Hadad hath fled, and cometh in unto the city, into the innermost part.

31 Е го приближенные сказали ему: – Послушай, мы слышали, что цари из дома Израиля милостивы. Позволь нам пойти к царю Израиля одетыми в рубище и с веревками на головах. Может быть, он пощадит твою жизнь.

And his servants say unto him, `Lo, we pray thee, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel -- that they are kind kings; let us put, we pray thee, sackcloth on our loins, and ropes on our heads, and we go out unto the king of Israel; it may be he doth keep thee alive.'

32 И одетые в рубище, с веревками на головах они пришли к царю Израиля и сказали: – Твой слуга Венадад говорит: «Прошу тебя, оставь мне жизнь». Царь ответил: – Разве он еще жив? Он брат мой.

And they gird sackcloth on their loins, and ropes on their heads, and they come in unto the king of Israel, and say, `Thy servant Ben-Hadad hath said, Let me live, I pray thee;' and he saith, `Is he yet alive? he my brother.'

33 П ослы увидели в этом добрый знак и поспешно подхватили его слово: – Да, Венадад твой брат! – сказали они. – Идите и приведите его, – сказал царь. Когда Венадад вышел к нему, Ахав усадил его в свою колесницу.

And the men observe diligently, and hasten, and catch it from him, and say, `Thy brother Ben-Hadad;' and he saith, `Go ye in, bring him;' and Ben-Hadad cometh out unto him, and he causeth him to come up on the chariot.

34 – Я верну города, которые мой отец взял у твоего отца, – сказал Венадад. – Ты можешь открыть в Дамаске рынки, как мой отец в Самарии. Ахав ответил: – На таких условиях я отпущу тебя. Он заключил с ним договор и отпустил его. Пророк упрекает Ахава

And he saith unto him, `The cities that my father took from thy father, I give back, and streets thou dost make for thee in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria;' -- `and I, with a covenant, send thee away;' and he maketh with him a covenant, and sendeth him away.

35 П о слову Господа один ученик пророков сказал другому: – Прошу, побей меня. Но тот отказался.

And a certain man of the sons of the prophets said unto his neighbour by the word of Jehovah, `Smite me, I pray thee;' and the man refuseth to smite him,

36 Т огда пророк сказал: – Раз ты не послушался Господа, как только ты уйдешь от меня, тебя убьет лев. И после того, как тот человек ушел, лев выскочил ему навстречу и убил его.

and he saith to him, `Because that thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah, lo, thou art going from me, and the lion hath smitten thee;' and he goeth from him, and the lion findeth him, and smiteth him.

37 П ророк нашел другого человека и сказал: – Прошу, побей меня. Тот человек изранил его побоями.

And he findeth another man, and saith, `Smite me, I pray thee;' and the man smiteth him, smiting and wounding,

38 Т огда пророк пошел и встал у дороги, ожидая царя. Он закрылся, опустив головную накидку на глаза.

and the prophet goeth and standeth for the king on the way, and disguiseth himself with ashes on his eyes.

39 К огда царь проезжал мимо, он закричал ему: – Твой слуга был в самой гуще боя, и воин пришел ко мне с пленником и сказал: «Стереги этого человека. Если он пропадет, твоя жизнь будет за его жизнь, или же ты заплатишь талант серебра».

And it cometh to pass -- the king is passing by -- that he hath cried unto the king, and saith, `Thy servant went out into the midst of the battle, and lo, a man hath turned aside and bringeth in unto me a man, and saith, Keep this man; if he be at all missing, then hath thy life been for his life, or a talent of silver thou dost weigh out;

40 Н о пока твой слуга был занят то там, то здесь, пленник скрылся. – Таков и будет тебе приговор, – сказал царь Израиля. – Ты сам его произнес.

and it cometh to pass, thy servant is working hither and thither, and he is not!' and the king of Israel saith unto him, Right thy judgment; thou hast determined.'

41 Т огда пророк быстро сорвал с глаз головную накидку, и царь Израиля узнал в нем одного из пророков.

And he hasteth and turneth aside the ashes from off his eyes, and the king of Israel discerneth him, that he of the prophets,

42 О н сказал царю: – Так говорит Господь: «Ты отпустил человека, заклятого Мною. Поэтому твоя жизнь будет за его жизнь, а твой народ – за его народ».

and he saith unto him, `Thus said Jehovah, Because thou hast sent away the man I devoted, out of hand, even thy life hath been for his life, and thy people for his people;'

43 М рачным и разгневанным вернулся царь Израиля в самарийский дворец.

and the king of Israel goeth unto his house, sulky and wroth, and cometh in to Samaria.
