1 К огда об этом услышали все цари к западу от Иордана – в нагорьях, в западных предгорьях и по всему побережью Великого моря до самого Ливана (цари хеттов, аморреев, хананеев, ферезеев, хивеев и иевусеев), –

And it cometh to pass, when all the kings who beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the low-country, and in every haven of the great sea, over-against Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, hear --

2 о ни собрались вместе, чтобы воевать с Иисусом и Израилем.

that they gather themselves together to fight with Joshua, and with Israel -- one mouth.

3 Н о жители Гаваона, услышав о том, что Иисус сделал с Иерихоном и Гаем,

And the inhabitants of Gibeon have heard that which Joshua hath done to Jericho and to Ai,

4 п рибегли к хитрости: они пошли и собрали в дорогу еды и нагрузили своих ослов ветхими мешками и ветхими мехами для вина, изорванными и заплатанными.

and they work, even they, with subtilty, and go, and feign to be ambassadors, and take old sacks for their asses, and wine-bottles, old, and rent, and bound up,

5 Н а ногах у них были поношенные и залатанные сандалии, их одежда также была очень ветхой. Весь хлеб, что они взяли с собой, был черствым и заплесневелым.

and sandals, old and patched, on their feet, and old garments upon them, and all the bread of their provision is dry -- it was crumbs.

6 О ни пришли к Иисусу в гилгалский лагерь и сказали ему и израильтянам: – Мы пришли из далекой страны; заключите же с нами союз.

And they go unto Joshua, unto the camp at Gilgal, and say unto him, and unto the men of Israel, `From a land far off we have come, and now, make with us a covenant;'

7 И зраильтяне сказали хивеям: – А вдруг вы живете рядом с нами? Как же нам тогда заключать с вами союз?

and the men of Israel say unto the Hivite, `It may be in our midst ye are dwelling, and how do we make with thee a covenant?'

8 – Мы твои слуги, – сказали они Иисусу. Но Иисус спросил: – Кто вы такие и откуда вы пришли?

and they say unto Joshua, `Thy servants we.' And Joshua saith unto them, `Who ye? and whence come ye?'

9 О ни ответили: – Твои слуги пришли из очень далекой страны, узнав о славе Господа, твоего Бога. Мы слышали о Нем: обо всем, что Он сделал в Египте,

And they say unto him, `From a land very far off have thy servants come, for the name of Jehovah thy God, for we have heard His fame, and all that He hath done in Egypt,

10 и обо всем, что Он сделал с двумя царями аморреев к востоку от Иордана – с Сигоном, царем Хешбона, и Огом, царем Башана, который правил в Аштароте.

and all that He hath done to the two kings of the Amorite who beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who in Ashtaroth.

11 Н аши старейшины и все жители нашей страны сказали нам: «Соберите в дорогу пищу, идите, встретьтесь с ними и скажите им: “Мы ваши слуги; заключите с нами союз”».

`And our elders, and all the inhabitants of our land speak unto us, saying, Take in your hand provision for the way, and go to meet them, and ye have said unto them, Your servants we, and now, make with us a covenant;

12 В от наш хлеб. Он был еще теплым, когда мы дома запаслись им в дорогу в тот день, когда, отправляясь к вам, мы дома запасались им в дорогу. Но посмотрите теперь, как он зачерствел и заплесневел.

this our bread -- hot we provided ourselves with it out of our houses, on the day of our coming out to go unto you, and now, lo, it is dry, and hath been crumbs;

13 А эти мехи для вина, когда мы их наполняли, были новыми, но посмотрите, как они изорвались теперь. А наша одежда и сандалии совсем износились за долгую дорогу.

and these the wine-bottles which we filled, new, and lo, they have rent; and these, our garments and our sandals, have become old, from the exceeding greatness of the way.'

14 И зраильтяне попробовали их припасы, но не спросили Господа.

And the men take of their provision, and the mouth of Jehovah have not asked;

15 И исус заключил с ними мир, охраняя их жизни договором, а вожди общества скрепили его клятвой.

and Joshua maketh with them peace, and maketh with them a covenant, to keep them alive; and swear to them do the princes of the company.

16 С пустя три дня после того как они заключили союз с гаваонитянами, израильтяне узнали, что это – их соседи, живущие рядом.

And it cometh to pass, at the end of three days after that they have made with them a covenant, that they hear that they their neighbours -- that in their midst they are dwelling.

17 Т огда израильтяне отправились в путь и на третий день пришли к их городам – Гаваону, Кефире, Беэроту и Кирьят-Иеариму.

And the sons of Israel journey and come in unto their cities on the third day -- and their cities Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-Jearim --

18 Н о израильтяне не напали на них, потому что вожди общества поклялись им Господом, Богом Израиля. Все общество роптало против вождей,

and the sons of Israel have not smitten them, for sworn to them have the princes of the company by Jehovah God of Israel, and all the company murmur against the princes.

19 н о они ответили: – Мы поклялись им Господом, Богом Израиля, и не можем теперь тронуть их.

And all the princes say unto all the company, `We -- we have sworn to them by Jehovah, God of Israel; and now, we are not able to come against them;

20 В от что мы сделаем с ними: мы оставим их в живых, чтобы на нас не обрушился гнев за нарушение клятвы, которую мы им дали.

this we do to them, and have kept them alive, and wrath is not upon us, because of the oath which we have sworn to them.'

21 И вожди продолжили: – Пусть они живут, но будут дровосеками и водоносами для всего нашего общества. Так обещание вождей не было нарушено.

And the princes say unto them, `They live, and are hewers of wood and drawers of water for all the company, as the princes spake to them.'

22 И исус призвал гаваонитян и сказал: – Почему вы обманули нас, сказав: «Мы живем далеко от вас», – тогда как вы живете рядом с нами?

And Joshua calleth for them, and speaketh unto them, saying, `Why have ye deceived us, saying, We are very far from you, and ye in our midst dwelling?

23 Т еперь вы прокляты. Вы всегда будете работать дровосеками и водоносами для дома моего Бога.

and now, cursed are ye, and none of you is cut off a servant, even hewers of wood and drawers of water, for the house of my God.'

24 О ни ответили Иисусу: – Твои слуги узнали наверняка, что Господь, твой Бог, повелел Своему слуге Моисею отдать вам всю эту землю и истребить перед вами всех ее жителей. Мы очень испугались за свою жизнь и потому поступили так.

And they answer Joshua and say, `Because it was certainly declared to thy servants, that Jehovah thy God commanded Moses His servant to give to you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we fear greatly for ourselves because of you, and we do this thing;

25 Т еперь мы в твоих руках. Поступай с нами, как сочтешь лучшим и справедливым.

and now, lo, we in thy hand, as good, and as right in thine eyes to do to us -- do.'

26 И исус защитил их от израильтян, и те не убили их.

And he doth to them so, and delivereth them from the hand of the sons of Israel, and they have not slain them;

27 В тот день он сделал гаваонитян дровосеками и водоносами для общества и для жертвенника Господа на том месте, какое бы Господь ни избирал. Они делают это и до сих пор.

and Joshua maketh them on that day hewers of wood and drawers of water for the company, and for the altar of Jehovah, unto this day, at the place which He doth choose.
