1 И аков продолжил путешествие и пришел в землю восточных народов.

And Jacob lifteth up his feet, and goeth towards the land of the sons of the east;

2 Т ам он увидел колодец в поле и возле него три отары овец, потому что из того колодца поили скот. Колодец был закрыт большим камнем.

and he looketh, and lo, a well in the field, and lo, there three droves of a flock crouching by it, for from that well they water the droves, and the great stone on the mouth of the well.

3 К огда все отары собирались, пастухи отваливали камень от колодца и поили овец, а потом клали камень на прежнее место.

(When thither have all the droves been gathered, and they have rolled the stone from off the mouth of the well, and have watered the flock, then they have turned back the stone on the mouth of the well to its place.)

4 И аков спросил пастухов: – Братья, откуда вы? – Мы из Харрана, – ответили они.

And Jacob saith to them, `My brethren, from whence ye?' and they say, `We from Haran.'

5 О н сказал им: – Знаете ли вы Лавана, внука Нахора? – Да, знаем, – ответили они.

And he saith to them, `Have ye known Laban, son of Nahor?' and they say, `We have known.'

6 И аков спросил: – Все ли у него благополучно? – Благополучно, – ответили они. – А вот и Рахиль, его дочь, идет с овцами.

And he saith to them, `Hath he peace?' and they say, `Peace; and lo, Rachel his daughter is coming with the flock.'

7 – Солнце еще высоко, – сказал он, – еще не время собирать отары. Напоите овец и гоните их обратно на пастбище.

And he saith, `Lo, the day still great, not time for the cattle to be gathered; water ye the flock, and go, delight yourselves.'

8 – Мы не можем, – ответили они, – пока не соберутся все отары, и камень не отвалят от колодца; тогда мы напоим овец.

And they say, `We are not able, till that all the droves be gathered together, and they have rolled away the stone from the mouth of the well, and we have watered the flock.'

9 О н еще разговаривал с ними, когда подошла Рахиль с овцами отца: она пасла овец.

He is yet speaking with them, and Rachel hath come with the flock which her father hath, for she shepherdess;

10 К огда Иаков увидел Рахиль, дочь своего дяди Лавана, он подошел, отвалил камень от колодца и напоил Лавановых овец.

and it cometh to pass when Jacob hath seen Rachel, daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the flock of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob cometh nigh and rolleth the stone from off the mouth of the well, and watereth the flock of Laban his mother's brother.

11 П отом Иаков поцеловал Рахиль и, громко заплакав,

And Jacob kisseth Rachel, and lifteth up his voice, and weepeth,

12 с казал Рахили, что он – родственник ее отца и сын Ревекки. Она побежала и рассказала об этом отцу.

and Jacob declareth to Rachel that he her father's brother, and that he Rebekah's son, and she runneth and declareth to her father.

13 У слышав о приходе своего племянника Иакова, Лаван выбежал навстречу, обнял его, поцеловал и привел к себе в дом. Иаков рассказал ему обо всем,

And it cometh to pass, when Laban heareth the report of Jacob his sister's son, that he runneth to meet him, and embraceth him, and kisseth him, and bringeth him in unto his house; and he recounteth to Laban all these things,

14 и Лаван сказал ему: – Ты моя плоть и кровь. История женитьбы Иакова Когда Иаков прожил у него месяц,

and Laban saith to him, `Only my bone and my flesh thou;' and he dwelleth with him a month of days.

15 Л аван сказал ему: – Хотя ты мне и родственник, почему ты должен работать на меня даром? Скажи мне, что тебе заплатить.

And Laban saith to Jacob, `Is it because thou my brother that thou hast served me for nought? declare to me what thy hire.'

16 А у Лавана были две дочери: старшую звали Лия, а младшую – Рахиль.

And Laban hath two daughters, the name of the elder Leah, and the name of the younger Rachel,

17 Л ия была не так красива, как Рахиль, а Рахиль была стройна и хороша собой.

and the eyes of Leah tender, and Rachel hath been fair of form and fair of appearance.

18 И аков полюбил Рахиль и ответил Лавану: – Я буду работать на тебя семь лет за твою младшую дочь Рахиль.

And Jacob loveth Rachel, and saith, `I serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter:'

19 Л аван сказал: – Лучше я отдам ее тебе, чем кому-то другому. Оставайся у меня.

and Laban saith, `It is better for me to give her to thee than to give her to another man; dwell with me;'

20 И аков служил семь лет, чтобы получить Рахиль, но они показались ему как несколько дней, потому что он любил ее.

and Jacob serveth for Rachel seven years; and they are in his eyes as some days, because of his loving her.

21 П отом Иаков сказал Лавану: – Дай мне мою жену, чтобы мне жить с ней как с женой: пришел мой срок.

And Jacob saith unto Laban, `Give up my wife, for my days have been fulfilled, and I go in unto her;'

22 Л аван созвал всех окрестных жителей и устроил пир.

and Laban gathereth all the men of the place, and maketh a banquet.

23 Н о когда настал вечер, он взял свою дочь Лию и дал ее Иакову, и Иаков лег с ней.

And it cometh to pass in the evening, that he taketh Leah, his daughter, and bringeth her in unto him, and he goeth in unto her;

24 Л аван дал в служанки дочери свою служанку Зелфу.

and Laban giveth to her Zilpah, his maid-servant, to Leah his daughter, a maid-servant.

25 К огда настало утро, оказалось, что это Лия! Иаков сказал Лавану: – Что ты сделал со мной? Я же служил тебе за Рахиль. Почему ты обманул меня?

And it cometh to pass in the morning, that lo, it Leah; and he saith unto Laban, `What this thou hast done to me? for Rachel have I not served with thee? and why hast thou deceived me?'

26 Л аван ответил: – У нас здесь нет обычая выдавать замуж младшую дочь раньше старшей.

And Laban saith, `It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the first-born;

27 З аверши брачную неделю этой дочери, а потом мы дадим тебе и младшую, за другие семь лет работы.

fulfil the week of this one, and we give to thee also this one, for the service which thou dost serve with me yet seven other years.'

28 И аков так и сделал: провел неделю с Лией, а потом Лаван отдал ему в жены свою дочь Рахиль.

And Jacob doth so, and fulfilleth the week of this one, and he giveth to him Rachel his daughter, to him for a wife;

29 Л аван дал в служанки Рахили свою служанку Валлу.

and Laban giveth to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his maid-servant, for a maid-servant to her.

30 И аков стал жить и с Рахилью, и любил Рахиль больше, чем Лию. Он работал на Лавана еще семь лет. Дети Иакова

And he goeth in also unto Rachel, and he also loveth Rachel more than Leah; and he serveth with him yet seven other years.

31 К огда Господь увидел, что Лия нелюбима, Он открыл ей чрево, а Рахиль была бесплодна.

And Jehovah seeth that Leah the hated one, and He openeth her womb, and Rachel barren;

32 Л ия забеременела и родила сына. Она назвала его Рувим, потому что сказала: «Это потому, что Господь увидел мое несчастье. Теперь мой муж, конечно, будет меня любить».

and Leah conceiveth, and beareth a son, and calleth his name Reuben, for she said, `Because Jehovah hath looked on mine affliction; because now doth my husband love me.'

33 О на снова забеременела и, когда родила сына, сказала: «Так как Господь услышал, что я нелюбима, Он дал мне еще и этого». И она назвала его Симеон.

And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Because Jehovah hath heard that I the hated one, He also giveth to me even this;' and she calleth his name Simeon.

34 О на снова забеременела, и когда родила сына, сказала: «Теперь, наконец, мой муж привяжется ко мне, потому что я родила ему трех сыновей». Поэтому он был назван Левий.

And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith, `Now the time, my husband is joined unto me, because I have born to him three sons,' therefore hath called his name Levi.

35 И снова она забеременела и, когда родила сына, сказала: «На этот раз я возблагодарю Господа». Поэтому она назвала его Иуда. Потом она перестала рожать.

And she conceiveth again, and beareth a son, and saith this time, `I praise Jehovah;' therefore hath she called his name Judah; and she ceaseth from bearing.
