1 О днажды ее свекровь Ноеминь сказала ей: – Моя дочь, не должна ли я постараться найти тебе пристанище, чтобы тебе было хорошо?

And Naomi her mother-in-law saith to her, `My daughter, do not I seek for thee rest, that it may be well with thee?

2 Р азве Боаз, со служанками которого ты была, нам не родственник? Сегодня вечером он веет ячмень на току.

and now, is not Boaz of our acquaintance, with whose young women thou hast been? lo, he is winnowing the threshing-floor of barley to-night,

3 И так, вымойся, помажься ароматными маслами и надень свои лучшие одежды. Иди на гумно, но не показывайся ему до тех пор, пока он не закончит есть и пить.

and thou hast bathed, and anointed thyself, and put thy garments upon thee, and gone down to the threshing-floor; let not thyself be known to the man till he complete to eat and to drink;

4 К огда он ляжет, заметь место, где он лежит. Потом иди, открой покрывало у его ног и ляг. Он скажет тебе, что делать.

and it cometh to pass when he lieth down, that thou hast known the place where he lieth down, and hast gone in, and uncovered his feet, and lain down, -- and he doth declare to thee that which thou dost do.'

5 – Я сделаю все, как ты говоришь, – ответила Руфь.

And she saith unto her, `All that thou sayest -- I do.'

6 О на пошла на ток и сделала все, что сказала ей сделать ее свекровь.

And she goeth down the threshing-floor, and doth according to all that her mother-in-law commanded her

7 К огда Боаз закончил есть и пить и пришел в хорошее настроение, он пошел и лег у дальнего угла скирды. Руфь тихо подошла, открыла покрывало у его ног и легла.

And Boaz eateth and drinketh, and his heart is glad; and he goeth in to lie down at the end of the heap; and she cometh in gently, and uncovereth his feet, and lieth down.

8 В полночь он вздрогнул, повернулся и обнаружил женщину, лежащую у его ног.

And it cometh to pass, at the middle of the night, that the man trembleth, and turneth himself, and lo, a woman is lying at his feet.

9 – Кто ты? – спросил он. – Я твоя служанка Руфь, – сказала она. – Простри надо мной край твоей одежды, ведь ты один из наших ближайших родственников, несущих ответственность за нас.

And he saith, `Who thou?' and she saith, `I Ruth thy handmaid, and thou hast spread thy skirt over thy handmaid, for thou a redeemer.'

10 – Благослови тебя Господь, моя дочь, – ответил он. – Это доброе дело больше того, которое ты сделала прежде: ты не стала бегать за молодыми мужчинами – ни за богатыми, ни за бедными.

And he saith, `Blessed thou of Jehovah, my daughter; thou hast dealt more kindly at the latter end than at the beginning -- not to go after the young men, either poor or rich.

11 И теперь, моя дочь, не бойся. Я сделаю для тебя все, о чем ты просишь. Весь мой город знает, что ты достойная женщина.

And now, my daughter, fear not, all that thou sayest I do to thee, for all the gate of my people doth know that thou a virtuous woman.

12 Х отя я и близкий родственник, есть родственник еще ближе меня.

And now, surely, true, that I a redeemer, but also there is a redeemer nearer than I.

13 О ставайся на ночь здесь, а утром, если он захочет быть вашим покровителем, то хорошо – пусть будет. Но если не захочет, то верно, как то, что жив Господь, это сделаю я. Спи здесь до утра.

Lodge to night, and it hath been in the morning, if he doth redeem thee, well: he redeemeth; and if he delight not to redeem thee, then I have redeemed thee -- I; Jehovah liveth! lie down till the morning.'

14 И она лежала у его ног до утра, но встала рано, до того, как один человек мог распознать другого. Боаз сказал про себя: «Пусть никто не знает, что на гумно приходила женщина».

And she lieth down at his feet till the morning, and riseth before one doth discern another; and he saith, `Let it not be known that the woman hath come into the floor.'

15 О н сказал ей: – Подай мне свою накидку, которая на тебе, и держи ее. Когда она сделала это, он высыпал в накидку шесть мер ячменя и помог ей закинуть ношу на плечи. После этого он вернулся в город.

And he saith, `Give the covering which on thee, and keep hold on it;' and she keepeth hold on it, and he measureth six of barley, and layeth on her; and he goeth into the city.

16 К огда Руфь пришла к своей свекрови, Ноеминь спросила: – Ну как, моя дочь? И она рассказала ей обо всем, что сделал для нее Боаз,

And she cometh in unto her mother-in-law, and she saith, `Who thou, my daughter?' and she declareth to her all that the man hath done to her.

17 и прибавила: – Он дал мне эти шесть мер ячменя, сказав: «Не возвращайся к своей свекрови с пустыми руками».

And she saith, `These six of barley he hath given to me, for he said, Thou dost not go in empty unto thy mother-in-law.'

18 Н оеминь сказала: – Подожди, моя дочь, пока не узнаешь, чем все закончится. Ведь этот человек не успокоится, пока сегодня же не решит дела.

And she saith, `Sit still, my daughter, till thou dost know how the matter falleth, for the man doth not rest except he hath completed the matter to-day.'
