1 U n día le dijo su suegra Noemí: —Hija mía, ¿no debo buscarte un hogar para que te vaya bien?

And Naomi her mother-in-law saith to her, `My daughter, do not I seek for thee rest, that it may be well with thee?

2 ¿ No es Booz nuestro pariente, con cuyas criadas has estado? Esta noche él avienta la parva de las cebadas.

and now, is not Boaz of our acquaintance, with whose young women thou hast been? lo, he is winnowing the threshing-floor of barley to-night,

3 T e lavarás, pues, te perfumarás, te pondrás tu mejor vestido, e irás a la era; pero no te presentarás al hombre hasta que él haya acabado de comer y de beber.

and thou hast bathed, and anointed thyself, and put thy garments upon thee, and gone down to the threshing-floor; let not thyself be known to the man till he complete to eat and to drink;

4 C uando se acueste, fíjate en qué lugar se acuesta, ve, descubre sus pies, y acuéstate allí; él mismo te dirá lo que debas hacer.

and it cometh to pass when he lieth down, that thou hast known the place where he lieth down, and hast gone in, and uncovered his feet, and lain down, -- and he doth declare to thee that which thou dost do.'

5 R ut respondió: —Haré todo lo que tú me mandes.

And she saith unto her, `All that thou sayest -- I do.'

6 D escendió, pues, al campo, e hizo todo lo que su suegra le había mandado.

And she goeth down the threshing-floor, and doth according to all that her mother-in-law commanded her

7 C uando Booz hubo comido y bebido, y su corazón estaba contento, se retiró a dormir a un lado del montón. Un rato más tarde vino ella calladamente, le descubrió los pies y se acostó.

And Boaz eateth and drinketh, and his heart is glad; and he goeth in to lie down at the end of the heap; and she cometh in gently, and uncovereth his feet, and lieth down.

8 A la medianoche se estremeció aquel hombre, se dio vuelta, y descubrió que una mujer estaba acostada a sus pies.

And it cometh to pass, at the middle of the night, that the man trembleth, and turneth himself, and lo, a woman is lying at his feet.

9 E ntonces dijo: —¿Quién eres? Ella respondió: —Soy Rut, tu sierva; extiende el borde de tu capa sobre tu sierva, por cuanto eres pariente cercano.

And he saith, `Who thou?' and she saith, `I Ruth thy handmaid, and thou hast spread thy skirt over thy handmaid, for thou a redeemer.'

10 D ijo Booz: —Jehová te bendiga, hija mía; tu segunda bondad ha sido mayor que la primera, pues no has ido en busca de algún joven, pobre o rico.

And he saith, `Blessed thou of Jehovah, my daughter; thou hast dealt more kindly at the latter end than at the beginning -- not to go after the young men, either poor or rich.

11 A hora, pues, no temas, hija mía; haré contigo como tú digas, pues toda la gente de mi pueblo sabe que eres mujer virtuosa.

And now, my daughter, fear not, all that thou sayest I do to thee, for all the gate of my people doth know that thou a virtuous woman.

12 A unque es cierto que soy pariente cercano, hay un pariente más cercano que yo.

And now, surely, true, that I a redeemer, but also there is a redeemer nearer than I.

13 P asa aquí la noche, y cuando sea de día, si él te redime, bien, que te redima; pero si no quiere redimirte, yo te redimiré. Jehová es testigo. Descansa, pues, hasta la mañana.

Lodge to night, and it hath been in the morning, if he doth redeem thee, well: he redeemeth; and if he delight not to redeem thee, then I have redeemed thee -- I; Jehovah liveth! lie down till the morning.'

14 D espués que durmió a sus pies hasta la mañana, se levantó Rut antes que los hombres pudieran reconocerse unos a otros; porque Booz había dicho: «Que no se sepa que una mujer ha venido al campo.»

And she lieth down at his feet till the morning, and riseth before one doth discern another; and he saith, `Let it not be known that the woman hath come into the floor.'

15 D espués él le pidió: «Quítate el manto con que te cubres y sujétalo bien.» Mientras ella lo sujetaba, midió Booz seis medidas de cebada y se las puso encima. Entonces ella se fue a la ciudad.

And he saith, `Give the covering which on thee, and keep hold on it;' and she keepeth hold on it, and he measureth six of barley, and layeth on her; and he goeth into the city.

16 C uando llegó a casa de su suegra, ésta le preguntó: —¿Qué hay, hija mía? Rut le contó todo cuanto le había ocurrido con aquel hombre,

And she cometh in unto her mother-in-law, and she saith, `Who thou, my daughter?' and she declareth to her all that the man hath done to her.

17 y añadió: —Me dio estas seis medidas de cebada, y me dijo: “Para que no vuelvas a la casa de tu suegra con las manos vacías.”

And she saith, `These six of barley he hath given to me, for he said, Thou dost not go in empty unto thy mother-in-law.'

18 E ntonces Noemí dijo: —Espérate, hija mía, hasta que sepas cómo se resuelve esto; porque aquel hombre no descansará hasta que concluya el asunto hoy.

And she saith, `Sit still, my daughter, till thou dost know how the matter falleth, for the man doth not rest except he hath completed the matter to-day.'
