1 H iram, rey de Tiro, envió también sus siervos a Salomón, luego que oyó que lo habían ungido rey en lugar de su padre, pues Hiram siempre había amado a David.

And Hiram king of Tyre sendeth his servants unto Solomon, for he heard that they had anointed him for king instead of his father, for Hiram was a lover of David all the days;

2 E ntonces Salomón envió a decir a Hiram:

and Solomon sendeth unto Hiram, saying,

3 « Tú sabes que mi padre David no pudo edificar una casa al nombre de Jehová, su Dios, a causa de las guerras en que se vio envuelto, hasta que Jehová puso a sus enemigos bajo las plantas de sus pies.

`Thou hast known David my father, that he hath not been able to build a house to the name of Jehovah his God, because of the wars that have been round about him, till Jehovah's putting them under the soles of his feet.

4 A hora Jehová, mi Dios, me ha dado paz por todas partes, pues no hay adversarios ni males que temer.

`And now, Jehovah my God hath given rest to me round about, there is no adversary nor evil occurrence,

5 Y o, por tanto, he determinado ahora edificar una casa al nombre de Jehová, mi Dios, según lo que Jehová dijo a mi padre David: “Tu hijo, a quien yo pondré en el trono en lugar tuyo, él edificará una casa a mi nombre.”

and lo, I am saying to build a house to the name of Jehovah my God, as Jehovah spake unto David my father, saying, Thy son whom I appoint in thy stead on thy throne, he doth build the house for My name.

6 M anda, pues, ahora, que me corten cedros del Líbano; mis siervos estarán con los tuyos y yo te daré por tus siervos el salario que tú digas, porque sabes bien que ninguno hay entre nosotros que sepa labrar la madera como los sidonios.»

`And now, command, and they cut down for me cedars out of Lebanon, and my servants are with thy servants, and the hire of thy servants I give to thee according to all that thou sayest, for thou hast known that there is not among us a man acquainted with cutting wood, like the Sidonians.'

7 C uando Hiram oyó las palabras de Salomón, se alegró mucho y dijo: «Bendito sea hoy Jehová, que dio un hijo sabio a David como gobernante de este pueblo tan grande.»

And it cometh to pass at Hiram's hearing the words of Solomon, that he rejoiceth exceedingly, and saith, `Blessed Jehovah to-day, who hath given to David a wise son over this numerous people.'

8 H iram envió a decir a Salomón: «He oído lo que me mandaste a decir: haré todo lo que te plazca acerca de la madera de cedro y la madera de ciprés.

And Hiram sendeth unto Solomon, saying, I have heard that which thou hast sent unto me, I do all thy desire concerning cedar-wood, and fir-wood,

9 M is siervos la llevarán desde el Líbano al mar, la enviaré en balsas por mar hasta el lugar que tú me señales. Allí se desatará y tú la tomarás. Y tú cumplirás mi deseo al dar de comer a mi familia.»

my servants bring down from Lebanon to the sea, and I make them floats in the sea unto the place that thou sendest unto me, and I have spread them out there; and thou dost take up, and thou dost execute my desire, to give the food of my house.'

10 D io, pues, Hiram a Salomón toda la madera de cedro y la madera de ciprés que quiso,

And Hiram is giving to Solomon cedar-trees, and fir-trees, all his desire,

11 m ientras Salomón le daba a Hiram veinte mil coros de trigo y veinte coros de aceite puro para el sustento de su familia. Esto entregaba Salomón a Hiram cada año.

and Solomon hath given to Hiram twenty thousand cors of wheat, food for his house, and twenty cors of beaten oil; thus doth Solomon give to Hiram year by year.

12 J ehová, pues, dio a Salomón sabiduría como le había prometido. Entre Hiram y Salomón hubo paz, e hicieron un pacto entre ambos.

And Jehovah hath given wisdom to Solomon as He spake to him, and there is peace between Hiram and Solomon, and they make a covenant both of them.

13 E l rey Salomón decretó una leva en todo Israel, la cual ascendió a treinta mil hombres,

And king Solomon lifteth up a tribute out of all Israel, and the tribute is thirty thousand men,

14 q ue enviaba al Líbano por turnos cada mes, de diez mil en diez mil; un mes estaban en el Líbano y dos meses en sus casas. Adoniram estaba encargado de aquella leva.

and he sendeth them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month, by changes, a month they are in Lebanon, two months in their own house; and Adoniram over the tribute.

15 T enía también Salomón setenta mil que llevaban las cargas, y ochenta mil cortadores en el monte,

And king Solomon hath seventy thousand bearing burdens, and eighty thousand hewing in the mountain,

16 s in contar los principales oficiales de Salomón que dirigían la obra; eran tres mil trescientos los que tenían a su cargo el pueblo que hacía la obra.

apart from the heads of the officers of Solomon, who over the work, three thousand and three hundred, those ruling over the people who are working in the business.

17 E l rey mandó que trajeran piedras grandes, piedras costosas, para los cimientos de la Casa, y piedras labradas.

And the king commandeth, and they bring great stones, precious stone, to lay the foundation of the house, hewn stones;

18 L os albañiles de Salomón, los de Hiram y los hombres de Gebal cortaron y prepararon la madera y la cantería para labrar la Casa.

and the builders of Solomon, and the builders of Hiram, and the Giblites hew, and prepare the wood and the stones to build the house.
