1 » Levanta tú esta lamentación sobre los príncipes de Israel.

And thou, lift up a lamentation unto princes of Israel,

2 D irás: »“¡Cómo se echó entre los leones tu madre, la leona! Entre los leoncillos crió sus cachorros.

and thou hast said: What thy mother? -- a lioness, Among lions she hath crouched down, In the midst of young lions she hath multiplied her whelps.

3 E lla hizo subir uno de sus cachorros, que llegó a ser un leoncillo y aprendió a arrebatar la presa y a devorar a seres humanos.

And she bringeth up one of her whelps, A young lion it hath been, And it learneth to tear prey, man it hath devoured.

4 L as naciones oyeron de él; fue tomado en la trampa de ellas, y lo llevaron con grillos a la tierra de Egipto.

And hear of it do nations, In their pit it hath been caught, And they bring it in with chains unto the land of Egypt.

5 V iendo ella que había esperado demasiado tiempo y que se perdía su esperanza, tomó otro de sus cachorros y lo puso por leoncillo.

And she seeth, that stayed -- perished hath her hope, And she taketh one of her whelps, A young lion she hath made it.

6 Y él andaba entre los leones; se hizo un leoncillo, aprendió a arrebatar la presa, devoró seres humanos.

And it goeth up and down in the midst of lions, A young lion it hath been, And it learneth to tear prey, man it hath devoured.

7 S aqueó fortalezas y asoló ciudades. La tierra, con cuanto había en ella, quedó desolada al estruendo de sus rugidos.

And it knoweth his forsaken habitations, And their cities it hath laid waste, And desolate is the land and its fulness, Because of the voice of his roaring.

8 A rremetieron contra él las gentes de las provincias de alrededor; extendieron sobre él su red y en el foso fue apresado.

And set against it do nations Round about from the provinces. And they spread out for it their net, In their pit it hath been caught.

9 L o pusieron en una jaula y lo encadenaron: encadenado lo llevaron al rey de Babilonia. Lo pusieron en las fortalezas, para que su voz no se oyera más sobre los montes de Israel.

And they put it in prison -- in chains, And they bring it unto the king of Babylon, They bring it in unto bulwarks, So that its voice is not heard any more On mountains of Israel.

10 » ”Tu madre fue como una vid plantada en medio de la viña, junto a las aguas, que da fruto y echa vástagos a causa de las muchas aguas.

Thy mother as a vine in thy blood by waters planted, Fruitful and full of boughs it hath been, Because of many waters.

11 Y ella tuvo varas fuertes, para cetros de reyes; elevó su estatura por encima del ramaje, y fue vista por causa de su altura y por la abundancia de sus sarmientos.

And it hath strong rods for sceptres of rulers, And high is its stature above thick branches, And it appeareth in its height In the multitude of its thin shoots.

12 P ero fue arrancada con ira, derribada en tierra. El viento del este secó su fruto y sus fuertes ramas fueron quebradas y se secaron consumidas por el fuego.

And it is plucked up in fury, To the earth it hath been cast, And the east wind hath dried up its fruit, Broken and withered hath been the rod of its strength, Fire hath consumed it.

13 A hora está plantada en el desierto, en tierra de sequedad y de aridez.

And now -- it is planted in a wilderness, In a land dry and thirsty.

14 Y de la vara de sus ramas ha salido fuego que ha consumido su fruto, y no ha quedado en ella vara fuerte para cetro de reyes.” »Una lamentación es ésta, y de lamentación servirá.»

And go forth doth fire from a rod of its boughs, Its fruit it hath devoured, And it hath no rod of strength -- a sceptre to rule, Lamentation it -- and it is for a lamentation!'
