1 » Guardaos de hacer vuestra justicia delante de los hombres para ser vistos por ellos; de otra manera no tendréis recompensa de vuestro Padre que está en los cielos.

`Take heed your kindness not to do before men, to be seen by them, and if not -- reward ye have not from your Father who in the heavens;

2 C uando, pues, des limosna, no hagas tocar trompeta delante de ti, como hacen los hipócritas en las sinagogas y en las calles, para ser alabados por los hombres; de cierto os digo que ya tienen su recompensa.

whenever, therefore, thou mayest do kindness, thou mayest not sound a trumpet before thee as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men; verily I say to you -- they have their reward!

3 P ero cuando tú des limosna, no sepa tu izquierda lo que hace tu derecha,

`But thou, doing kindness, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doth,

4 p ara que sea tu limosna en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará en público. Sobre la oración

that thy kindness may be in secret, and thy Father who is seeing in secret Himself shall reward thee manifestly.

5 » Cuando ores, no seas como los hipócritas, porque ellos aman el orar de pie en las sinagogas y en las esquinas de las calles para ser vistos por los hombres; de cierto os digo que ya tienen su recompensa.

`And when thou mayest pray, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites, because they love in the synagogues, and in the corners of the broad places -- standing -- to pray, that they may be seen of men; verily I say to you, that they have their reward.

6 P ero tú, cuando ores, entra en tu cuarto, cierra la puerta y ora a tu Padre que está en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará en público.

`But thou, when thou mayest pray, go into thy chamber, and having shut thy door, pray to thy Father who in secret, and thy Father who is seeing in secret, shall reward thee manifestly.

7 » Y al orar no uséis vanas repeticiones, como los gentiles, que piensan que por su palabrería serán oídos.

`And -- praying -- ye may not use vain repetitions like the nations, for they think that in their much speaking they shall be heard,

8 N o os hagáis, pues, semejantes a ellos, porque vuestro Padre sabe de qué cosas tenéis necesidad antes que vosotros le pidáis.

be ye not therefore like to them, for your Father doth know those things that ye have need of before your asking him;

9 V osotros, pues, oraréis así: »“Padre nuestro que estás en los cielos, santificado sea tu nombre.

thus therefore pray ye: `Our Father who in the heavens! hallowed be Thy name.

10 V enga tu Reino. Hágase tu voluntad, como en el cielo, así también en la tierra.

`Thy reign come: Thy will come to pass, as in heaven also on the earth.

11 E l pan nuestro de cada día, dánoslo hoy.

`Our appointed bread give us to-day.

12 P erdónanos nuestras deudas, como también nosotros perdonamos a nuestros deudores.

`And forgive us our debts, as also we forgive our debtors.

13 N o nos metas en tentación, sino líbranos del mal, porque tuyo es el Reino, el poder y la gloria, por todos los siglos. Amén”.

`And mayest Thou not lead us to temptation, but deliver us from the evil, because Thine is the reign, and the power, and the glory -- to the ages. Amen.

14 » Por tanto, si perdonáis a los hombres sus ofensas, os perdonará también a vosotros vuestro Padre celestial;

`For, if ye may forgive men their trespasses He also will forgive you -- your Father who in the heavens;

15 p ero si no perdonáis sus ofensas a los hombres, tampoco vuestro Padre os perdonará vuestras ofensas. Sobre el ayuno

but if ye may not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

16 » Cuando ayunéis, no pongáis cara triste, como los hipócritas que desfiguran sus rostros para mostrar a los hombres que ayunan; de cierto os digo que ya tienen su recompensa.

`And when ye may fast, be ye not as the hypocrites, of sour countenances, for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men fasting; verily I say to you, that they have their reward.

17 P ero tú, cuando ayunes, unge tu cabeza y lava tu rostro,

`But thou, fasting, anoint thy head, and wash thy face,

18 p ara no mostrar a los hombres que ayunas, sino a tu Padre que está en secreto; y tu Padre, que ve en lo secreto, te recompensará en público. Tesoros en el cielo

that thou mayest not appear to men fasting, but to thy Father who in secret, and thy Father, who is seeing in secret, shall reward thee manifestly.

19 » No os hagáis tesoros en la tierra, donde la polilla y el moho destruyen, y donde ladrones entran y hurtan;

`Treasure not up to yourselves treasures on the earth, where moth and rust disfigure, and where thieves break through and steal,

20 s ino haceos tesoros en el cielo, donde ni la polilla ni el moho destruyen, y donde ladrones no entran ni hurtan,

but treasure up to yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth disfigure, and where thieves do not break through nor steal,

21 p orque donde esté vuestro tesoro, allí estará también vuestro corazón. La lámpara del cuerpo

for where your treasure is, there will be also your heart.

22 » La lámpara del cuerpo es el ojo; así que, si tu ojo es bueno, todo tu cuerpo estará lleno de luz;

`The lamp of the body is the eye, if, therefore, thine eye may be perfect, all thy body shall be enlightened,

23 p ero si tu ojo es maligno, todo tu cuerpo estará en tinieblas. Así que, si la luz que hay en ti es tinieblas, ¿cuántas no serán las mismas tinieblas? Dios y las riquezas

but if thine eye may be evil, all thy body shall be dark; if, therefore, the light that in thee is darkness -- the darkness, how great!

24 » Ninguno puede servir a dos señores, porque odiará al uno y amará al otro, o estimará al uno y menospreciará al otro. No podéis servir a Dios y a las riquezas. Confianza en Dios

`None is able to serve two lords, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to the one, and despise the other; ye are not able to serve God and Mammon.

25 » Por tanto os digo: No os angustiéis por vuestra vida, qué habéis de comer o qué habéis de beber; ni por vuestro cuerpo, qué habéis de vestir. ¿No es la vida más que el alimento y el cuerpo más que el vestido?

`Because of this I say to you, be not anxious for your life, what ye may eat, and what ye may drink, nor for your body, what ye may put on. Is not the life more than the nourishment, and the body than the clothing?

26 M irad las aves del cielo, que no siembran, ni siegan, ni recogen en graneros; y, sin embargo, vuestro Padre celestial las alimenta. ¿No valéis vosotros mucho más que ellas?

look to the fowls of the heaven, for they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather into storehouses, and your heavenly Father doth nourish them; are not ye much better than they?

27 ¿ Y quién de vosotros podrá, por mucho que se angustie, añadir a su estatura un codo?

`And who of you, being anxious, is able to add to his age one cubit?

28 Y por el vestido, ¿por qué os angustiáis? Considerad los lirios del campo, cómo crecen: no trabajan ni hilan;

and about clothing why are ye anxious? consider well the lilies of the field; how do they grow? they do not labour, nor do they spin;

29 p ero os digo que ni aun Salomón con toda su gloria se vistió como uno de ellos.

and I say to you, that not even Solomon in all his glory was arrayed as one of these.

30 Y si a la hierba del campo, que hoy es y mañana se quema en el horno, Dios la viste así, ¿no hará mucho más por vosotros, hombres de poca fe?

`And if the herb of the field, that to-day is, and to-morrow is cast to the furnace, God doth so clothe -- not much more you, O ye of little faith?

31 N o os angustiéis, pues, diciendo: “¿Qué comeremos, o qué beberemos, o qué vestiremos?”,

therefore ye may not be anxious, saying, What may we eat? or, What may we drink? or, What may we put round?

32 p orque los gentiles se angustian por todas estas cosas, pero vuestro Padre celestial sabe que tenéis necesidad de todas ellas.

for all these do the nations seek for, for your heavenly Father doth know that ye have need of all these;

33 B uscad primeramente el reino de Dios y su justicia, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas.

but seek ye first the reign of God and His righteousness, and all these shall be added to you.

34 » Así que no os angustiéis por el día de mañana, porque el día de mañana traerá su propia preocupación. Basta a cada día su propio mal.

Be not therefore anxious for the morrow, for the morrow shall be anxious for its own things; sufficient for the day the evil of it.
