1 S eis días antes de la Pascua fue Jesús a Betania, donde estaba Lázaro, el que había estado muerto y a quien había resucitado de los muertos.

Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where was Lazarus, who had died, whom he raised out of the dead;

2 Y le hicieron allí una cena; Marta servía y Lázaro era uno de los que estaban sentados a la mesa con él.

they made, therefore, to him a supper there, and Martha was ministering, and Lazarus was one of those reclining together (at meat) with him;

3 E ntonces María tomó una libra de perfume de nardo puro, de mucho precio, y ungió los pies de Jesús y los secó con sus cabellos; y la casa se llenó del olor del perfume.

Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of spikenard, of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and did wipe with her hair his feet, and the house was filled from the fragrance of the ointment.

4 D ijo uno de sus discípulos, Judas Iscariote hijo de Simón, el que lo había de entregar:

Therefore saith one of his disciples -- Judas Iscariot, of Simon, who is about to deliver him up --

5 — ¿Por qué no se vendió este perfume por trescientos denarios y se les dio a los pobres?

`Wherefore was not this ointment sold for three hundred denaries, and given to the poor?'

6 P ero dijo esto, no porque se preocupara por los pobres, sino porque era ladrón y, teniendo la bolsa, sustraía de lo que se echaba en ella.

and he said this, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and what things were put in he was carrying.

7 E ntonces Jesús dijo: —Déjala, para el día de mi sepultura ha guardado esto.

Jesus, therefore, said, `Suffer her; for the day of my embalming she hath kept it,

8 A los pobres siempre los tendréis con vosotros, pero a mí no siempre me tendréis. El complot contra Lázaro

for the poor ye have always with yourselves, and me ye have not always.'

9 G ran multitud de los judíos supieron entonces que él estaba allí, y fueron, no solamente por causa de Jesús, sino también para ver a Lázaro, a quien había resucitado de los muertos.

A great multitude, therefore, of the Jews knew that he is there, and they came, not because of Jesus only, but that Lazarus also they may see, whom he raised out of the dead;

10 P ero los principales sacerdotes acordaron dar muerte también a Lázaro,

and the chief priests took counsel, that also Lazarus they may kill,

11 p orque a causa de él muchos de los judíos se apartaban y creían en Jesús. La entrada triunfal en Jerusalén

because on account of him many of the Jews were going away, and were believing in Jesus.

12 E l siguiente día, grandes multitudes que habían ido a la fiesta, al oír que Jesús llegaba a Jerusalén,

On the morrow, a great multitude that came to the feast, having heard that Jesus doth come to Jerusalem,

13 t omaron ramas de palmera y salieron a recibirlo, y clamaban: —¡Hosana! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor, el Rey de Israel!

took the branches of the palms, and went forth to meet him, and were crying, `Hosanna, blessed he who is coming in the name of the Lord -- the king of Israel;'

14 H alló Jesús un asnillo y montó sobre él, como está escrito:

and Jesus having found a young ass did sit upon it, according as it is written,

15 « No temas, hija de Sión; tu Rey viene, montado sobre un pollino de asna.»

`Fear not, daughter of Sion, lo, thy king doth come, sitting on an ass' colt.'

16 E stas cosas no las entendieron sus discípulos al principio, pero cuando Jesús fue glorificado, entonces se acordaron de que estas cosas estaban escritas acerca de él, y de que se las habían hecho.

And these things his disciples did not know at the first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were having been written about him, and these things they did to him.

17 Y daba testimonio la gente que estaba con él cuando llamó a Lázaro del sepulcro y lo resucitó de los muertos.

The multitude, therefore, who are with him, were testifying that he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and did raise him out of the dead;

18 P or lo cual también había salido la gente a recibirlo, porque había oído que él había hecho esta señal.

because of this also did the multitude meet him, because they heard of his having done this sign,

19 P ero los fariseos dijeron entre sí: —Ya veis que no conseguís nada. Mirad, el mundo se va tras él. Unos griegos buscan a Jesús

the Pharisees, therefore, said among themselves, `Ye see that ye do not gain anything, lo, the world did go after him.'

20 H abía ciertos griegos entre los que habían subido a adorar en la fiesta.

And there were certain Greeks out of those coming up that they may worship in the feast,

21 E stos, pues, se acercaron a Felipe, que era de Betsaida de Galilea, y le rogaron, diciendo: —Señor, queremos ver a Jesús.

these then came near to Philip, who from Bethsaida of Galilee, and were asking him, saying, `Sir, we wish to see Jesus;'

22 F elipe fue y se lo dijo a Andrés; entonces Andrés y Felipe se lo dijeron a Jesús.

Philip cometh and telleth Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.

23 J esús les respondió diciendo: —Ha llegado la hora para que el Hijo del hombre sea glorificado.

And Jesus responded to them, saying, `The hour hath come that the Son of Man may be glorified;

24 D e cierto, de cierto os digo que si el grano de trigo que cae en la tierra no muere, queda solo, pero si muere, lleva mucho fruto.

verily, verily, I say to you, if the grain of the wheat, having fallen to the earth, may not die, itself remaineth alone; and if it may die, it doth bear much fruit;

25 E l que ama su vida, la perderá; y el que odia su vida en este mundo, para vida eterna la guardará.

he who is loving his life shall lose it, and he who is hating his life in this world -- to life age-during shall keep it;

26 S i alguno me sirve, sígame; y donde yo esté, allí también estará mi servidor. Si alguno me sirve, mi Padre lo honrará. Jesús anuncia su muerte

if any one may minister to me, let him follow me, and where I am, there also my ministrant shall be; and if any one may minister to me -- honour him will the Father.

27 » Ahora está turbada mi alma, ¿y qué diré? ¿Padre, sálvame de esta hora? Pero para esto he llegado a esta hora.

`Now hath my soul been troubled, and what? shall I say -- Father, save me from this hour? -- but because of this I came to this hour;

28 P adre, glorifica tu nombre. Entonces vino una voz del cielo: «Lo he glorificado, y lo glorificaré otra vez.»

Father, glorify Thy name.' There came, therefore, a voice out of the heaven, `I both glorified, and again I will glorify;'

29 Y la multitud que estaba allí y había oído la voz, decía que había sido un trueno. Otros decían: —Un ángel le ha hablado.

the multitude, therefore, having stood and heard, were saying that there hath been thunder; others said, `A messenger hath spoken to him.'

30 R espondió Jesús y dijo: —No ha venido esta voz por causa mía, sino por causa de vosotros.

Jesus answered and said, `Not because of me hath this voice come, but because of you;

31 A hora es el juicio de este mundo; ahora el príncipe de este mundo será echado fuera.

now is a judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast forth;

32 Y yo, cuando sea levantado de la tierra, a todos atraeré a mí mismo.

and I, if I may be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.'

33 E sto decía dando a entender de qué muerte iba a morir.

And this he said signifying by what death he was about to die;

34 L e respondió la gente: —Nosotros hemos oído que, según la Ley, el Cristo permanece para siempre. ¿Cómo, pues, dices tú que es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado? ¿Quién es este Hijo del hombre?

the multitude answered him, `We heard out of the law that the Christ doth remain -- to the age; and how dost thou say, That it behoveth the Son of Man to be lifted up? who is this -- the Son of Man?'

35 E ntonces Jesús les dijo: —Aún por un poco de tiempo la luz está entre vosotros; andad entretanto que tenéis luz, para que no os sorprendan las tinieblas, porque el que anda en tinieblas no sabe a dónde va.

Jesus, therefore, said to them, `Yet a little time is the light with you; walk while ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he who is walking in the darkness hath not known where he goeth;

36 E ntre tanto que tenéis la luz, creed en la luz, para que seáis hijos de luz. Incredulidad de los judíos Habiendo dicho Jesús esto, se fue y se ocultó de ellos.

while ye have the light, believe in the light, that sons of light ye may become.' These things spake Jesus, and having gone away, he was hid from them,

37 P ero a pesar de que había hecho tantas señales delante de ellos, no creían en él,

yet he having done so many signs before them, they were not believing in him,

38 p ara que se cumpliera la palabra del profeta Isaías, que dijo: «Señor, ¿quién ha creído a nuestro anuncio? ¿Y a quién se ha revelado el brazo del Señor?»

that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, `Lord, who gave credence to our report? and the arm of the Lord -- to whom was it revealed?'

39 P or esto no podían creer, porque también dijo Isaías:

Because of this they were not able to believe, that again Isaiah said,

40 « Cegó los ojos de ellos y endureció su corazón, para que no vean con los ojos, ni entiendan con el corazón, ni se conviertan, y yo los sane.»

`He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart, that they might not see with the eyes, and understand with the heart, and turn back, and I might heal them;'

41 I saías dijo esto cuando vio su gloria, y habló acerca de él.

these things said Isaiah, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.

42 A pesar de eso, muchos, incluso de los gobernantes, creyeron en él, pero no lo confesaban por temor a los fariseos, para no ser expulsados de la sinagoga,

Still, however, also out of the rulers did many believe in him, but because of the Pharisees they were not confessing, that they might not be put out of the synagogue,

43 p orque amaban más la gloria de los hombres que la gloria de Dios. Las palabras de Jesús juzgarán a los hombres

for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

44 J esús clamó y dijo: «El que cree en mí, no cree en mí, sino en el que me envió;

And Jesus cried and said, `He who is believing in me, doth not believe in me, but in Him who sent me;

45 y el que me ve, ve al que me envió.

and he who is beholding me, doth behold Him who sent me;

46 Y o, la luz, he venido al mundo, para que todo aquel que cree en mí no permanezca en tinieblas.

I a light to the world have come, that every one who is believing in me -- in the darkness may not remain;

47 A l que oye mis palabras y no las guarda, yo no lo juzgo, porque no he venido a juzgar al mundo, sino a salvar al mundo.

and if any one may hear my sayings, and not believe, I -- I do not judge him, for I came not that I might judge the world, but that I might save the world.

48 E l que me rechaza y no recibe mis palabras, tiene quien lo juzgue: la palabra que he hablado, ella lo juzgará en el día final.

`He who is rejecting me, and not receiving my sayings, hath one who is judging him, the word that I spake, that will judge him in the last day,

49 Y o no he hablado por mi propia cuenta; el Padre, que me envió, él me dio mandamiento de lo que he de decir y de lo que he de hablar.

because I spake not from myself, but the Father who sent me, He did give me a command, what I may say, and what I may speak,

50 Y sé que su mandamiento es vida eterna. Así pues, lo que yo hablo, lo hablo como el Padre me lo ha dicho.»

and I have known that His command is life age-during; what, therefore, I speak, according as the Father hath said to me, so I speak.'
