1 E n aquellos días no había rey en Israel. La tribu de Dan buscaba un territorio propio donde habitar, porque hasta entonces no había obtenido su heredad entre las tribus de Israel.

In those days there is no king in Israel, and in those days the tribe of the Danite is seeking for itself an inheritance to inhabit, for hath not fallen to it unto that day in the midst of the tribes of Israel by inheritance.

2 P or eso los hijos de Dan enviaron desde Zora y Estaol cinco hombres de su tribu, hombres valientes, para que reconocieran y exploraran bien la tierra. Y les dijeron: «Id y reconoced la tierra.» Estos vinieron al monte de Efraín, hasta la casa de Micaía, y allí posaron.

And the sons of Dan send, out of their family, five men of them, men, sons of valour, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to traverse the land, and to search it, and they say unto them, `Go, search the land;' and they come into the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, and lodge there.

3 C uando estaban cerca de la casa de Micaía, reconocieron la voz del joven levita y, llegándose allá, le preguntaron: —¿Quién te ha traído acá? ¿Qué haces aquí? ¿Qué buscas tú por aquí?

They with the household of Micah, and they have discerned the voice of the young man, the Levite, and turn aside there, and say to him, `Who hath brought thee hither? and what art thou doing in this and what to thee here?'

4 É l les respondió: —De esta y de esta manera ha hecho conmigo Micaía, y me ha tomado para que sea su sacerdote.

And he saith unto them, `Thus and thus hath Micah done to me; and he hireth me, and I am to him for a priest.'

5 E llos le pidieron entonces: —Pregunta, pues, ahora a Dios, para que sepamos si ha de irnos bien en este viaje que hacemos.

And they say to him, `Ask, we pray thee, at God, and we know whether our way is prosperous on which we are going.'

6 E l sacerdote les respondió: —Id en paz: delante de Jehová está el camino en que andáis.

And the priest saith to them, `Go in peace; over-against Jehovah your way in which ye go.'

7 S alieron luego aquellos cinco hombres y llegaron a Lais. Vieron que el pueblo que habitaba en esa ciudad estaba seguro, ocioso y confiado, conforme a la costumbre de los de Sidón, sin que nadie en aquella región los perturbara en cosa alguna, ni nadie se enseñoreara sobre ellos. Estaban lejos de los sidonios y no tenían negocios con nadie.

And the five men go, and come in to Laish, and see the people which in its midst, dwelling confidently, according to the custom of Zidonians, quiet and confident; and there is none putting to shame in the land in thing, possessing restraint, and they far off from the Zidonians, and have no word with man.

8 C uando los cinco hombres regresaron a sus hermanos de Zora y Estaol, estos les preguntaron: —¿Qué hay? Ellos respondieron:

And they come in unto their brethren, at Zorah and Eshtaol, and their brethren say to them, `What -- ye?'

9 — Levantaos, subamos contra ellos, porque hemos explorado la región y hemos visto que es muy buena. ¿No haréis vosotros nada? No seáis perezosos en poneros en marcha para ir a tomar posesión de la tierra.

And they say, `Rise, and we go up against them, for we have seen the land, and lo, very good; and ye are keeping silent! be not slothful to go -- to enter to possess the land.

10 C uando vayáis, llegaréis a un pueblo confiado y a una tierra muy espaciosa, pues Dios la ha entregado en vuestras manos; es un lugar donde no falta cosa alguna que haya en la tierra.

When ye go, ye come in unto a people confident, and the land large on both hands, for God hath given it into your hand, a place where there is no lack of anything which in the land.'

11 E ntonces salieron de Zora y de Estaol seiscientos hombres de la familia de Dan provistos de armas de guerra.

And there journey thence, of the family of the Danite, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, six hundred men girded with weapons of war.

12 F ueron y acamparon en Quiriat-jearim, en Judá, por lo cual aquel lugar, que está al occidente de Quiriat-jearim, se llama hasta hoy el campamento de Dan.

And they go up and encamp in Kirjath-Jearim, in Judah, therefore they have called that place, `Camp of Dan,' till this day; lo, behind Kirjath-Jearim.

13 D e allí pasaron al monte de Efraín y llegaron hasta la casa de Micaía.

And they pass over thence the hill-country of Ephraim, and come in unto the house of Micah.

14 A quellos cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra de Lais dijeron entonces a sus hermanos: «¿No sabéis que en estas casas hay un efod y terafines, una imagen de talla y una de fundición? Mirad, por tanto, lo que habéis de hacer.»

And the five men, those going to traverse the land of Laish, answer and say unto their brethren, `Have ye known that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and graven image, and molten image? and now, know what ye do.'

15 C uando llegaron allá, entraron a donde vivía el joven levita, en casa de Micaía, y le preguntaron cómo estaba.

And they turn aside thither, and come in unto the house of the young man the Levite, the house of Micah, and ask of him of welfare, --

16 L os seiscientos hombres, que eran de los hijos de Dan, estaban armados con sus armas de guerra a la entrada de la puerta.

(and the six hundred men girded with their weapons of war, who of the sons of Dan, are standing at the opening of the gate), --

17 S ubiendo luego los cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra, entraron allá y tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, los terafines y la imagen de fundición, mientras se quedaba el sacerdote a la entrada de la puerta con los seiscientos hombres armados con armas de guerra.

yea, the five men, those going to traverse the land, go up -- they have come in thither -- they have taken the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image -- and the priest is standing at the opening of the gate, and the six hundred men who are girded with weapons of war --

18 E ntraron, pues, aquellos hombres en la casa de Micaía y tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, los terafines y la imagen de fundición. El sacerdote les dijo: —¿Qué hacéis vosotros?

yea, these have entered the house of Micah, and take the graven image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest saith unto them, `What are ye doing?'

19 E llos le respondieron: —Calla, pon la mano sobre tu boca y ven con nosotros, para que seas nuestro padre y sacerdote. ¿Es acaso mejor ser sacerdote en la casa de un solo hombre que serlo de una tribu y de una familia de Israel?

and they say to him, `Keep silent, lay thy hand on thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us for a father and for a priest: is it better thy being a priest to the house of one man, or thy being priest to a tribe and to a family in Israel?'

20 S e alegró el corazón del sacerdote, quien tomó el efod, los terafines y la imagen, y se fue con el pueblo.

And the heart of the priest is glad, and he taketh the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and goeth into the midst of the people,

21 E llos iniciaron la marcha y partieron llevando delante a los niños, el ganado y el bagaje.

and they turn and go, and put the infants, and the cattle, and the baggage, before them.

22 C uando ya se habían alejado de la casa de Micaía, los hombres que habitaban en las casas cercanas a la de él se juntaron y siguieron a los hijos de Dan.

They have been far off from the house of Micah -- and the men who in the houses which near the house of Micah have been called together, and overtake the sons of Dan,

23 L es gritaron, y los de Dan, volviendo sus rostros, dijeron a Micaía: —¿Qué tienes, que has juntado gente?

and call unto the sons of Dan, and they turn round their faces, and say to Micah, `What -- to thee that thou hast been called together?'

24 É l respondió: —Os apoderasteis de los dioses que yo hice y de mi sacerdote. Vosotros os vais, y a mí ¿qué más me queda? ¿Por qué, pues, me preguntáis qué me pasa?

And he saith, `My gods which I made ye have taken, and the priest, and ye go; and what to me more? and what this ye say unto me, What -- to thee!'

25 L os hijos de Dan contestaron: —No des voces tras nosotros, no sea que los de ánimo colérico os acometan y pierdas también tu vida y la vida de los tuyos.

And the sons of Dan say unto him, `Let not thy voice be heard with us, lest men bitter in soul fall upon you, and thou hast gathered thy life, and the life of thy household;'

26 P rosiguieron los hijos de Dan su camino, y Micaía, viendo que eran más fuertes que él, se volvió y regresó a su casa.

and the sons of Dan go on their way, and Micah seeth that they are stronger than he, and turneth, and goeth back unto his house.

27 Y ellos, llevando las cosas que había hecho Micaía, juntamente con el sacerdote que tenía, llegaron a Lais, un pueblo tranquilo y confiado, hirieron a sus habitantes a filo de espada y quemaron la ciudad.

And they have taken that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and come in against Laish, against a people quiet and confident, and smite them by the mouth of the sword, and the city have burnt with fire,

28 N o hubo quien los defendiera, porque se hallaban lejos de Sidón y no tenían negocios con nadie. Lais estaba situada en el valle que hay junto a Bet-rehob. Luego reedificaron la ciudad y habitaron en ella.

and there is no deliverer, for it far off from Zidon, and they have no word with man, and it in the valley which by Beth-Rehob; and they build the city, and dwell in it,

29 Y pusieron a aquella ciudad el nombre de Dan, conforme al nombre de Dan su padre, hijo de Israel, aunque antes la ciudad se llamaba Lais.

and call the name of the city Dan, by the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel; and yet Laish the name of the city at the first.

30 A llí los hijos de Dan levantaron, para adorarla, la imagen de talla. Y Jonatán hijo de Gersón hijo de Moisés, y sus hijos, fueron los sacerdotes en la tribu de Dan hasta el día del cautiverio de la tierra.

And the sons of Dan raise up for themselves the graven image, and Jonathan son of Gershom, son of Manasseh, he and his sons have been priests to the tribe of the Danite, till the day of the removal of of the land.

31 A sí, todo el tiempo que la casa de Dios estuvo en Silo, tuvieron levantada entre ellos la imagen de talla que Micaía había hecho.

And they appoint for them the graven image of Micah, which he had made, all the days of the house of God being in Shiloh.
