1 E ntonces algunos que venían de Judea enseñaban a los hermanos: «Si no os circuncidáis conforme al rito de Moisés no podéis ser salvos.»

And certain having come down from Judea, were teaching the brethren -- `If ye be not circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye are not able to be saved;'

2 P ablo y Bernabé tuvieron una discusión y contienda no pequeña con ellos. Por eso se dispuso que Pablo, Bernabé y algunos otros de ellos subieran a Jerusalén, a los apóstoles y a los ancianos, para tratar esta cuestión.

there having been, therefore, not a little dissension and disputation to Paul and Barnabas with them, they arranged for Paul and Barnabas, and certain others of them, to go up unto the apostles and elders to Jerusalem about this question,

3 E llos, pues, habiendo sido encaminados por la iglesia, pasaron por Fenicia y Samaria contando la conversión de los gentiles; y causaban gran gozo a todos los hermanos.

they indeed, then, having been sent forward by the assembly, were passing through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the nations, and they were causing great joy to all the brethren.

4 A l llegar a Jerusalén fueron recibidos por la iglesia, por los apóstoles y los ancianos, y refirieron todas las cosas que Dios había hecho con ellos.

And having come to Jerusalem, they were received by the assembly, and the apostles, and the elders, they declared also as many things as God did with them;

5 P ero algunos de la secta de los fariseos, que habían creído, se levantaron diciendo: —Es necesario circuncidarlos y mandarles que guarden la Ley de Moisés.

and there rose up certain of those of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying -- `It behoveth to circumcise them, to command them also to keep the law of Moses.'

6 E ntonces se reunieron los apóstoles y los ancianos para conocer de este asunto.

And there were gathered together the apostles and the elders, to see about this matter,

7 D espués de mucha discusión, Pedro se levantó y les dijo: —Hermanos, vosotros sabéis cómo ya hace algún tiempo Dios escogió que los gentiles oyeran por mi boca la palabra del evangelio y creyeran.

and there having been much disputing, Peter having risen up said unto them, `Men, brethren, ye know that from former days, God among us did make choice, through my mouth, for the nations to hear the word of the good news, and to believe;

8 Y Dios, que conoce los corazones, les dio testimonio, dándoles el Espíritu Santo lo mismo que a nosotros;

and the heart-knowing God did bare them testimony, having given to them the Holy Spirit, even as also to us,

9 y ninguna diferencia hizo entre nosotros y ellos, purificando por la fe sus corazones.

and did put no difference also between us and them, by the faith having purified their hearts;

10 A hora pues, ¿por qué tentáis a Dios, poniendo sobre la cerviz de los discípulos un yugo que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros hemos podido llevar?

now, therefore, why do ye tempt God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

11 A ntes creemos que por la gracia del Señor Jesús seremos salvos, de igual modo que ellos.

but, through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we believe to be saved, even as also they.'

12 E ntonces toda la multitud calló, y oyeron a Bernabé y a Pablo, que contaban cuán grandes señales y maravillas había hecho Dios por medio de ellos entre los gentiles.

And all the multitude did keep silence, and were hearkening to Barnabas and Paul, declaring as many signs and wonders as God did among the nations through them;

13 C uando ellos callaron, Jacobo respondió diciendo: —Hermanos, oídme.

and after they are silent, James answered, saying, `Men, brethren, hearken to me;

14 S imón ha contado cómo Dios visitó por primera vez a los gentiles para tomar de ellos pueblo para su nombre.

Simeon did declare how at first God did look after to take out of the nations a people for His name,

15 Y con esto concuerdan las palabras de los profetas, como está escrito:

and to this agree the words of the prophets, as it hath been written:

16 » “Después de esto volveré y reedificaré el tabernáculo de David, que está caído; y repararé sus ruinas, y lo volveré a levantar,

After these things I will turn back, and I will build again the tabernacle of David, that is fallen down, and its ruins I will build again, and will set it upright --

17 p ara que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todos los gentiles, sobre los cuales es invocado mi nombre,

that the residue of men may seek after the Lord, and all the nations, upon whom My name hath been called, saith the Lord, who is doing all these things.

18 d ice el Señor, que hace conocer todo esto desde tiempos antiguos.”

`Known from the ages to God are all His works;

19 » Por lo cual yo juzgo que no se inquiete a los gentiles que se convierten a Dios,

wherefore I judge: not to trouble those who from the nations do turn back to God,

20 s ino que se les escriba que se aparten de las contaminaciones de los ídolos, de fornicación, de ahogado y de sangre,

but to write to them to abstain from the pollutions of the idols, and the whoredom, and the strangled thing; and the blood;

21 p orque Moisés desde tiempos antiguos tiene en cada ciudad quien lo predique en las sinagogas, donde es leído cada sábado.

for Moses from former generations in every city hath those preaching him -- in the synagogues every sabbath being read.'

22 E ntonces pareció bien a los apóstoles y a los ancianos, con toda la iglesia, elegir a algunos varones y enviarlos a Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé: a Judas, que tenía por sobrenombre Barsabás, a Silas, hombres principales entre los hermanos,

Then it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole assembly, chosen men out of themselves to send to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas -- Judas surnamed Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren --

23 y escribir por conducto de ellos: «Los apóstoles, los ancianos y los hermanos, a los hermanos de entre los gentiles que están en Antioquía, Siria y Cilicia: Salud.

having written through their hand thus: `The apostles, and the elders, and the brethren, to those in Antioch, and Syria, and Cilicia, brethren, who of the nations, greeting;

24 P or cuanto hemos oído que algunos que han salido de nosotros, a los cuales no dimos orden, os han inquietado con palabras, perturbando vuestras almas, mandando circuncidaros y guardar la Ley,

seeing we have heard that certain having gone forth from us did trouble you with words, subverting your souls, saying to be circumcised and to keep the law, to whom we did give no charge,

25 n os ha parecido bien, habiendo llegado a un acuerdo, elegir varones y enviarlos a vosotros con nuestros amados Bernabé y Pablo,

it seemed good to us, having come together with one accord, chosen men to send unto you, with our beloved Barnabas and Paul --

26 h ombres que han expuesto su vida por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

men who have given up their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ --

27 A sí que enviamos a Judas y a Silas, los cuales también de palabra os harán saber lo mismo,

we have sent, therefore, Judas and Silas, and they by word are telling the same things.

28 p ues ha parecido bien al Espíritu Santo y a nosotros no imponeros ninguna carga más que estas cosas necesarias:

`For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, no more burden to lay upon you, except these necessary things:

29 q ue os abstengáis de lo sacrificado a ídolos, de sangre, de ahogado y de fornicación; si os guardáis de estas cosas, bien haréis. Pasadlo bien.»

to abstain from things offered to idols, and blood, and a strangled thing, and whoredom; from which keeping yourselves, ye shall do well; be strong!'

30 A sí pues, los que fueron enviados descendieron a Antioquía y, reuniendo a la congregación, entregaron la carta.

They then, indeed, having been let go, went to Antioch, and having brought the multitude together, did deliver the epistle,

31 H abiéndola leído, se regocijaron por la consolación.

and they having read, did rejoice for the consolation;

32 J udas y Silas, que también eran profetas, consolaron y animaron a los hermanos con abundancia de palabras.

Judas also and Silas, being themselves also prophets, through much discourse did exhort the brethren, and confirm,

33 D espués de pasar algún tiempo allí, fueron despedidos en paz por los hermanos para volver a aquellos que los habían enviado.

and having passed some time, they were let go with peace from the brethren unto the apostles;

34 S in embargo, a Silas le pareció bien quedarse allí.

and it seemed good to Silas to remain there still.

35 P ablo y Bernabé continuaron en Antioquía, enseñando la palabra del Señor y anunciando el evangelio con otros muchos.

And Paul and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and proclaiming good news -- with many others also -- the word of the Lord;

36 D espués de algunos días, Pablo dijo a Bernabé: —Volvamos a visitar a los hermanos en todas las ciudades en que hemos anunciado la palabra del Señor, para ver cómo están.

and after certain days, Paul said unto Barnabas, `Having turned back again, we may look after our brethren, in every city in which we have preached the word of the Lord -- how they are.'

37 B ernabé quería que llevaran consigo a Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos,

And Barnabas counseled to take with John called Mark,

38 p ero a Pablo no le parecía bien llevar consigo al que se había apartado de ellos desde Panfilia y no había ido con ellos a la obra.

and Paul was not thinking it good to take him with them who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and did not go with them to the work;

39 H ubo tal desacuerdo entre ambos, que se separaron el uno del otro; Bernabé, tomando a Marcos, navegó a Chipre,

there came, therefore, a sharp contention, so that they were parted from one another, and Barnabas having taken Mark, did sail to Cyprus,

40 y Pablo, escogiendo a Silas, salió encomendado por los hermanos a la gracia del Señor,

and Paul having chosen Silas, went forth, having been given up to the grace of God by the brethren;

41 y pasó por Siria y Cilicia, animando a las iglesias.

and he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the assemblies.
