Words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, of the priests who in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin,

2 P alabra de Jehová que le vino en los días de Josías hijo de Amón, rey de Judá, en el año decimotercero de su reinado.

unto whom the word of Jehovah hath been in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,

3 L e vino también en días de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta el fin del año undécimo de Sedequías hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, hasta la deportación de Jerusalén en el mes quinto.

and it is in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the completion of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the removal of Jerusalem in the fifth month.

4 V ino, pues, palabra de Jehová a mí, diciendo:

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

5 « Antes que te formara en el vientre, te conocí, y antes que nacieras, te santifiqué, te di por profeta a las naciones.»

`Before I form thee in the belly, I have known thee; and before thou comest forth from the womb I have separated thee, a prophet to nations I have made thee.'

6 Y o dije: «¡Ah, ah, Señor Jehová! ¡Yo no sé hablar, porque soy un muchacho!»

And I say, `Ah, Lord Jehovah! lo, I have not known -- to speak, for I a youth.'

7 M e dijo Jehová: «No digas: “Soy un muchacho”, porque a todo lo que te envíe irás, y dirás todo lo que te mande.

And Jehovah saith unto me, `Do not say, I a youth, for to all to whom I send thee thou goest, and all that I command thee thou speakest.

8 N o temas delante de ellos, porque contigo estoy para librarte, dice Jehová.»

Be not afraid of their faces, for with thee I to deliver thee, -- an affirmation of Jehovah.'

9 E xtendió Jehová su mano y tocó mi boca, y me dijo Jehová: «He puesto mis palabras en tu boca.

And Jehovah putteth forth His hand, and striketh against my mouth, and Jehovah saith unto me, `Lo, I have put my words in thy mouth.

10 M ira que te he puesto en este día sobre naciones y sobre reinos, para arrancar y destruir, para arruinar y derribar, para edificar y plantar.»

See, I have charged thee this day concerning the nations, and concerning the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.'

11 L a palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo: «¿Qué ves tú, Jeremías?» Yo respondí: «Veo una vara de almendro.»

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, `What art thou seeing, Jeremiah?' And I say, `A rod of an almond tree I am seeing.'

12 M e dijo Jehová: «Bien has visto, porque yo vigilo sobre mi palabra para ponerla por obra.»

And Jehovah saith unto me, `Thou hast well seen: for I am watching over My word to do it.'

13 V ino a mí la palabra de Jehová por segunda vez, diciendo: «¿Qué ves tú?» Yo dije: «Veo una olla hirviendo, que se vierte desde el norte.»

And there is a word of Jehovah unto me a second time, saying, `What art thou seeing?' And I say, `A blown pot I am seeing, and its face from the north.'

14 M e dijo Jehová: «Del norte se soltará el mal sobre todos los moradores de esta tierra.

And Jehovah saith unto me, `From the north is the evil loosed against all inhabitants of the land.

15 P orque yo convoco a todas las familias de los reinos del norte, dice Jehová; vendrán, y pondrá cada uno su campamento a la entrada de las puertas de Jerusalén, junto a todos sus muros en derredor y contra todas las ciudades de Judá.

For, lo, I am calling for all families of the kingdoms of the north, -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- and they have come, and put each his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem, and by its walls round about, and by all cities of Judah.

16 A causa de toda su maldad, proferiré mis juicios contra los que me abandonaron e incensaron a dioses extraños, y la obra de sus manos adoraron.

And I have spoken My judgments with them concerning all their evil, in that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, and bow themselves to the works of their own hands.

17 T ú, pues, ciñe tu cintura, levántate y háblales todo cuanto te mande. No te amedrentes delante de ellos, para que yo no te amedrente en su presencia.

`And thou, thou dost gird up thy loins, and hast arisen, and spoken unto them all that I command thee: be not affrighted because of them, lest I affright thee before them.

18 P orque yo te he puesto en este día como ciudad fortificada, como columna de hierro y como muro de bronce contra toda esta tierra, contra los reyes de Judá, sus príncipes, sus sacerdotes y el pueblo de la tierra.

And I, lo, I have given thee this day for a fenced city, and for an iron pillar, and for brazen walls over all the land, to the kings of Judah, to its heads, to its priests, and to the people of the land;

19 P elearán contra ti, pero no te vencerán, porque yo estoy contigo, dice Jehová, para librarte.»

and they have fought against thee, and they prevail not against thee; for with thee I, -- an affirmation of Jehovah -- to deliver thee.
