1 F ue José y lo hizo saber al faraón. Le dijo: —Mi padre y mis hermanos, con sus ovejas, sus vacas y todo lo que tienen, han venido de la tierra de Canaán y están en la tierra de Gosén.

And Joseph cometh, and declareth to Pharaoh, and saith, `My father, and my brethren, and their flock, and their herd, and all they have, have come from the land of Canaan, and lo, they in the land of Goshen.'

2 E scogió a cinco de sus hermanos y los presentó delante del faraón.

And out of his brethren he hath taken five men, and setteth them before Pharaoh;

3 E ntonces el faraón dijo a sus hermanos: —¿Cuál es vuestro oficio? Ellos respondieron al faraón: —Pastores de ovejas son tus siervos, así nosotros como nuestros padres.

and Pharaoh saith unto his brethren, `What your works?' and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thy servants feeders of a flock, both we and our fathers;'

4 D ijeron además al faraón: —Para habitar en esta tierra hemos venido, porque no hay pasto para las ovejas de tus siervos, pues el hambre es grave en la tierra de Canaán; por tanto, te rogamos ahora que permitas que habiten tus siervos en la tierra de Gosén.

and they say unto Pharaoh, `To sojourn in the land we have come, for there is no pasture for the flock which thy servants have, for grievous the famine in the land of Canaan; and now, let thy servants, we pray thee, dwell in the land of Goshen.'

5 E ntonces el faraón dijo a José: —Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido a ti.

And Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph, saying, `Thy father and thy brethren have come unto thee:

6 D elante de ti está la tierra de Egipto. En lo mejor de la tierra haz habitar a tu padre y a tus hermanos; que habiten en la tierra de Gosén, y si sabes que hay entre ellos hombres capaces, ponlos por mayorales de mi ganado.

the land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land cause thy father and thy brethren to dwell -- they dwell in the land of Goshen, and if thou hast known, and there are among them men of ability, then thou hast set them heads over the cattle I have.'

7 J osé introdujo también a Jacob, su padre, y lo presentó delante del faraón. Jacob bendijo al faraón,

And Joseph bringeth in Jacob his father, and causeth him to stand before Pharaoh; and Jacob blesseth Pharaoh.

8 y el faraón preguntó a Jacob: —¿Cuántos años tienes?

And Pharaoh saith unto Jacob, `How many the days of the years of thy life?'

9 J acob respondió al faraón: —Los años de mi peregrinación son ciento treinta. Pocos y malos han sido los años de mi vida, y no han llegado a los años de la vida de mis padres en los días de su peregrinación.

And Jacob saith unto Pharaoh, `The days of the years of my sojournings an hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their sojournings.'

10 J acob bendijo al faraón y salió de su presencia.

And Jacob blesseth Pharaoh, and goeth out from before Pharaoh.

11 A sí José hizo habitar a su padre y a sus hermanos, y les dio posesión en la tierra de Egipto, en lo mejor de la tierra, en la tierra de Ramesés, como mandó el faraón.

And Joseph settleth his father and his brethren, and giveth to them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh commanded;

12 Y alimentaba José con pan a su padre, a sus hermanos y a toda la casa de su padre, según el número de los hijos.

and Joseph nourisheth his father, and his brethren, and all the house of his father bread, according to the mouth of the infants.

13 N o había pan en toda la tierra, y el hambre era muy grave, por lo que desfallecían de hambre la tierra de Egipto y la tierra de Canaán.

And there is no bread in all the land, for the famine very grievous, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan are feeble because of the famine;

14 R ecogió entonces José todo el dinero que la tierra de Egipto y la tierra de Canaán le habían pagado por los alimentos que de él compraban; y metió José el dinero en casa del faraón.

and Joseph gathereth all the silver that is found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn that they are buying, and Joseph bringeth the silver into the house of Pharaoh.

15 C uando se acabó el dinero de la tierra de Egipto y de la tierra de Canaán, vino todo Egipto a José, diciendo: —Danos pan; ¿por qué moriremos delante de ti, por haberse acabado el dinero?

And the silver is consumed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians come in unto Joseph, saying, `Give to us bread -- why do we die before thee, though the money hath ceased?'

16 J osé respondió: —Si se ha acabado el dinero, entregad vuestros ganados, y yo os daré trigo por vuestros ganados.

and Joseph saith, `Give your cattle; and I give to you for your cattle, if the money hath ceased.'

17 T rajeron ellos sus ganados a José, y José les dio alimentos a cambio de caballos, ovejas, vacas y asnos; los abasteció de pan aquel año a cambio de todos sus ganados.

And they bring in their cattle unto Joseph, and Joseph giveth to them bread, for the horses, and for the cattle of the flock, and for the cattle of the herd, and for the asses; and he tendeth them with bread, for all their cattle, during that year.

18 A cabado aquel año, vinieron a él el segundo año, y le dijeron: —No ocultamos a nuestro señor que el dinero ciertamente se ha acabado, y también el ganado es ya de nuestro señor. Nada ha quedado delante de nuestro señor, sino nuestros cuerpos y nuestra tierra.

And that year is finished, and they come in unto him on the second year, and say to him, `We do not hide from my lord, that since the money hath been finished, and possession of the cattle unto my lord, there hath not been left before my lord save our bodies, and our ground;

19 ¿ Por qué moriremos delante de tus ojos, así nosotros como nuestra tierra? Cómpranos a nosotros y a nuestra tierra por pan, y nosotros y nuestra tierra seremos siervos del faraón; danos semilla para que vivamos y no muramos, y que no sea asolada la tierra.

why do we die before thine eyes, both we and our ground? buy us and our ground for bread, and we and our ground are servants to Pharaoh; and give seed, and we live, and die not, and the ground is not desolate.'

20 E ntonces compró José para el faraón toda la tierra de Egipto, pues los egipcios vendieron cada uno sus tierras, porque se agravó el hambre que pesaba sobre ellos. La tierra pasó así a ser del faraón.

And Joseph buyeth all the ground of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians have sold each his field, for the famine hath been severe upon them, and the land becometh Pharaoh's;

21 Y al pueblo lo hizo pasar a las ciudades, desde un extremo al otro del territorio de Egipto.

as to the people he hath removed them to cities from the end of the border of Egypt even unto its end.

22 S olamente la tierra de los sacerdotes no compró, por cuanto los sacerdotes recibían trigo del faraón y comían del trigo que el faraón les daba; por eso no vendieron su tierra.

Only the ground of the priests he hath not bought, for the priests have a portion from Pharaoh, and they have eaten their portion which Pharaoh hath given to them, therefore they have not sold their ground.

23 L uego José dijo al pueblo: —Os he comprado hoy, a vosotros y a vuestra tierra, para el faraón; aquí tenéis semilla para sembrar la tierra.

And Joseph saith unto the people, `Lo, I have bought you to-day and your ground for Pharaoh; lo, seed for you, and ye have sown the ground,

24 D e los frutos daréis la quinta parte al faraón; las otras cuatro partes serán vuestras, para sembrar las tierras y para vuestra manutención, y también de los que están en vuestras casas, para que coman vuestros niños.

and it hath come to pass in the increases, that ye have given a fifth to Pharaoh, and four of the parts are for yourselves, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for those who in your houses, and for food for your infants.'

25 E llos respondieron: —La vida nos has dado. Hallemos gracia a los ojos de nuestro señor, y seamos siervos del faraón.

And they say, `Thou hast revived us; we find grace in the eyes of my lord, and have been servants to Pharaoh;'

26 E ntonces José puso por ley hasta hoy sobre la tierra de Egipto que se diera al faraón la quinta parte de las cosechas. Tan sólo la tierra de los sacerdotes no pasó a ser del faraón.

and Joseph setteth it for a statute unto this day, concerning the ground of Egypt, Pharaoh hath a fifth; only the ground of the priests alone hath not become Pharaoh's.

27 A sí habitó Israel en la tierra de Egipto, en la tierra de Gosén; tomaron posesión de ella, se aumentaron y se multiplicaron en gran manera.

And Israel dwelleth in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they have possession in it, and are fruitful, and multiply exceedingly;

28 J acob vivió en la tierra de Egipto diecisiete años, y fueron los días de Jacob, los años de su vida, ciento cuarenta y siete años.

and Jacob liveth in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, are an hundred and forty and seven years.

29 C uando los días de Israel tocaban a su fin, llamó a José, su hijo, y le dijo: —Si he hallado ahora gracia a tus ojos, te ruego que pongas tu mano debajo de mi muslo y que me trates con misericordia y lealtad. Te ruego que no me entierres en Egipto.

And the days of Israel are near to die, and he calleth for his son, for Joseph, and saith to him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and thou hast done with me kindness and truth; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,

30 C uando duerma con mis padres, me llevarás de Egipto y me sepultarás en el sepulcro de ellos. —Haré como tú dices —respondió José.

and I have lain with my fathers, and thou hast borne me out of Egypt, and buried me in their burying-place.' And he saith, `I -- I do according to thy word;'

31 — Júramelo —dijo Israel. Y José se lo juró. Entonces Israel se inclinó sobre la cabecera de la cama.

and he saith, `Swear to me;' and he sweareth to him, and Israel boweth himself on the head of the bed.
