1 I osif s'a dus să înştiinţeze pe Faraon, şi i -a spus:,, Fraţii mei şi tatăl meu au sosit din ţara Canaan, cu oile şi boii, şi cu tot avutul lor; şi sînt în ţinutul Gosen.``

And Joseph cometh, and declareth to Pharaoh, and saith, `My father, and my brethren, and their flock, and their herd, and all they have, have come from the land of Canaan, and lo, they in the land of Goshen.'

2 A luat pe cinci din fraţii lui, şi i -a adus înaintea lui Faraon.

And out of his brethren he hath taken five men, and setteth them before Pharaoh;

3 F araon a întrebat pe fraţii lui Iosif:,, Cu ce vă îndeletniciţi?`` Ei au răspuns lui Faraon:,, Robii tăi sînt păstori, cum erau şi părinţii noştri.``

and Pharaoh saith unto his brethren, `What your works?' and they say unto Pharaoh, `Thy servants feeders of a flock, both we and our fathers;'

4 Ş i au mai zis lui Faraon:,, Noi am venit ca să locuim o vreme aici în ţară, pentrucă nu mai este păşune pentru oile robilor tăi, şi este o mare foamete în ţara Canaanului; îngăduie dar robilor tăi să locuiască în ţinutul Gosen.``

and they say unto Pharaoh, `To sojourn in the land we have come, for there is no pasture for the flock which thy servants have, for grievous the famine in the land of Canaan; and now, let thy servants, we pray thee, dwell in the land of Goshen.'

5 F araon a zis lui Iosif:,, Tatăl tău şi fraţii tăi au venit la tine.

And Pharaoh speaketh unto Joseph, saying, `Thy father and thy brethren have come unto thee:

6 Ţ ara Egiptului este deschisă înaintea ta; aşează pe tatăl tău şi pe fraţii tăi în cea mai bună parte a ţării. Să locuiască în ţinutul Gosen; şi dacă găseşti printre ei oameni destoinici, pune -i în fruntea turmelor mele.``

the land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land cause thy father and thy brethren to dwell -- they dwell in the land of Goshen, and if thou hast known, and there are among them men of ability, then thou hast set them heads over the cattle I have.'

7 I osif a adus pe tatăl său Iacov, şi l -a înfăţişat înaintea lui Faraon. Şi Iacov a binecuvîntat pe Faraon.

And Joseph bringeth in Jacob his father, and causeth him to stand before Pharaoh; and Jacob blesseth Pharaoh.

8 F araon a întrebat pe Iacov:,, Care este numărul zilelor anilor vieţii tale?``

And Pharaoh saith unto Jacob, `How many the days of the years of thy life?'

9 I acov a răspuns lui Faraon:,, Zilele anilor călătoriei mele sînt o sută treizeci de ani. Zilele anilor vieţii mele au fost puţine la număr şi rele, şi n'au atins zilele anilor vieţii părinţilor mei, în timpul călătoriei lor.``

And Jacob saith unto Pharaoh, `The days of the years of my sojournings an hundred and thirty years; few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their sojournings.'

10 I acov a binecuvîntat iarăş pe Faraon, şi a plecat dinaintea lui Faraon.

And Jacob blesseth Pharaoh, and goeth out from before Pharaoh.

11 I osif a aşezat pe tatăl său şi pe fraţii săi, şi le -a dat o moşie în ţara Egiptului, în cea mai bună parte a ţării, în ţinutul lui Ramses, cum poruncise Faraon.

And Joseph settleth his father and his brethren, and giveth to them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh commanded;

12 I osif a hrănit cu pîne pe tatăl său, pe fraţii săi, şi pe toată familia tatălui său, după numărul copiilor.

and Joseph nourisheth his father, and his brethren, and all the house of his father bread, according to the mouth of the infants.

13 N u mai era pîne în toată ţara, căci foametea era foarte mare; ţara Egiptului şi ţara Canaanului tînjeau, din pricina foametei.

And there is no bread in all the land, for the famine very grievous, and the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan are feeble because of the famine;

14 I osif a strîns tot argintul, care se găsea în ţara Egiptului şi în ţara Canaanului, în schimbul grîului, pe care -l cumpărau oamenii, şi astfel a făcut ca tot argintul acesta să intre în casa lui Faraon.

and Joseph gathereth all the silver that is found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn that they are buying, and Joseph bringeth the silver into the house of Pharaoh.

15 C înd s'a sfîrşit argintul din ţara Egiptului şi din ţara Canaanului, toţi Egiptenii au venit la Iosif, şi au zis:,, Dă-ne pîne! Pentruce să murim în faţa ta? Căci argint nu mai avem.``

And the silver is consumed out of the land of Egypt, and out of the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians come in unto Joseph, saying, `Give to us bread -- why do we die before thee, though the money hath ceased?'

16 I osif a zis:,, Daţi vitele voastre, şi vă voi da pîne în schimbul vitelor voastre, dacă nu mai aveţi argint.``

and Joseph saith, `Give your cattle; and I give to you for your cattle, if the money hath ceased.'

17 Ş i-au adus vitele la Iosif, şi Iosif le -a dat pîne în schimbul cailor, în schimbul turmelor de oi şi de boi, şi în schimbul măgarilor. Le -a dat astfel pîne în anul acela în schimbul tuturor turmelor lor.

And they bring in their cattle unto Joseph, and Joseph giveth to them bread, for the horses, and for the cattle of the flock, and for the cattle of the herd, and for the asses; and he tendeth them with bread, for all their cattle, during that year.

18 D upăce a trecut anul acela, au venit la Iosif în anul următor, şi i-au zis:,, Nu putem să ascundem domnului nostru faptul că argintul s'a sfîrşit, şi turmele de vite au trecut în stăpînirea domnului nostru; nu mai rămîn înaintea domnului nostru de cît trupurile şi pămînturile noastre.

And that year is finished, and they come in unto him on the second year, and say to him, `We do not hide from my lord, that since the money hath been finished, and possession of the cattle unto my lord, there hath not been left before my lord save our bodies, and our ground;

19 P entruce să murim subt ochii tăi, noi şi pămînturile noastre? Cumpără-ne împreună cu pămînturile noastre în schimbul pînii, şi vom fi ai domnului nostru, noi şi pămînturile noastre. Dă-ne sămînţă să sămănăm, ca să trăim şi să nu murim, şi să nu ne rămînă pămînturile pustii.``

why do we die before thine eyes, both we and our ground? buy us and our ground for bread, and we and our ground are servants to Pharaoh; and give seed, and we live, and die not, and the ground is not desolate.'

20 I osif a cumpărat pentru Faraon toate pămînturile Egiptului; căci Egiptenii şi-au vîndut fiecare ogorul, pentrucă îi silea foametea. Şi ţara a ajuns în stăpînirea lui Faraon.

And Joseph buyeth all the ground of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians have sold each his field, for the famine hath been severe upon them, and the land becometh Pharaoh's;

21 C ît despre popor, l -a mutat în cetăţi, dela o margine hotarelor Egiptului pînă la cealaltă.

as to the people he hath removed them to cities from the end of the border of Egypt even unto its end.

22 N umai pămînturile preoţilor nu le -a cumpărat, pentrucă era o lege a lui Faraon, dată în folosul preoţilor, cari trăiau din venitul pe care li -l dădea Faraon: de aceea ei nu şi-au vîndut pămînturile.

Only the ground of the priests he hath not bought, for the priests have a portion from Pharaoh, and they have eaten their portion which Pharaoh hath given to them, therefore they have not sold their ground.

23 I osif a zis poporului:,, V'am cumpărat azi cu pămînturile voastre, pentru Faraon; iată, vă dau sămînţă, ca să puteţi sămăna pămîntul.

And Joseph saith unto the people, `Lo, I have bought you to-day and your ground for Pharaoh; lo, seed for you, and ye have sown the ground,

24 L a vremea roadelor, veţi da a cincea parte lui Faraon; iar celelalte patru părţi vă vor rămînea vouă, ca să sămănaţi ogoarele, şi să vă hrăniţi împreună cu copiii voştri şi cu cei ce sînt în casele voastre.``

and it hath come to pass in the increases, that ye have given a fifth to Pharaoh, and four of the parts are for yourselves, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for those who in your houses, and for food for your infants.'

25 E i au zis:,, Tu ne-ai scăpat viaţa! Să căpătăm trecere înaintea domnului nostru, şi vom fi robi ai lui Faraon.``

And they say, `Thou hast revived us; we find grace in the eyes of my lord, and have been servants to Pharaoh;'

26 I osif a făcut din aceasta o lege, care a rămas în picioare pînă în ziua de azi, şi după care, a cincea parte din venitu pămînturilor Egiptului este a lui Faraon; numai pămînturile preoţilor nu sînt ale lui Faraon.

and Joseph setteth it for a statute unto this day, concerning the ground of Egypt, Pharaoh hath a fifth; only the ground of the priests alone hath not become Pharaoh's.

27 I srael a locuit în ţara Egiptului, în ţinutul Gosen. Ei s'au înstărit, au crescut şi s'au înmulţit foarte mult.

And Israel dwelleth in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they have possession in it, and are fruitful, and multiply exceedingly;

28 I acov a trăit şaptesprezece ani în ţara Egiptului; şi zilele anilor vieţii lui Iacov au fost de o sută patruzeci şi şapte de ani.

and Jacob liveth in the land of Egypt seventeen years, and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, are an hundred and forty and seven years.

29 C înd s'a apropiat Israel de clipa morţii, a chemat pe fiul său Iosif, şi i -a zis:,, Dacă am căpătat trecere înaintea ta, pune, rogu-te, mîna subt coapsa mea, şi poartă-te cu bunătate şi credincioşie faţă de mine: să nu mă îngropi în Egipt.

And the days of Israel are near to die, and he calleth for his son, for Joseph, and saith to him, `If, I pray thee, I have found grace in thine eyes, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and thou hast done with me kindness and truth; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt,

30 C i cînd mă voi culca lîngă părinţii mei, să mă scoţi afară din Egipt, şi să mă îngropi în mormîntul lor.`` Iosif a răspuns:,, Voi face după cuvîntul tău.``

and I have lain with my fathers, and thou hast borne me out of Egypt, and buried me in their burying-place.' And he saith, `I -- I do according to thy word;'

31 I acov a zis:,, Jură-mi.`` Şi Iosif i -a jurat. Apoi Israel s'a plecat cu faţa pe căpătîiul patului.

and he saith, `Swear to me;' and he sweareth to him, and Israel boweth himself on the head of the bed.
