1 Î n al doilea an al domniei lui Nebucadneţar, Nebucadneţar a avut nişte visuri. Duhul îi era turburat, şi i -a perit somnul.

And in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, dreamed hath Nebuchadnezzar dreams, and his spirit doth move itself, and his sleep hath been against him;

2 Î mpăratul a poruncit să cheme pe vrăjitori, pe cititorii în stele, pe descîntători şi pe Haldei, ca să -i spună visurile. Ei au venit, şi s'au înfăţişat înaintea împăratului.

and the king saith to call for scribes, and for enchanters, and for sorcerers, and for Chaldeans, to declare to the king his dreams. And they come in and stand before the king;

3 Î mpăratul le -a zis:,, Am visat un vis; duhul îmi este turburat, şi aş vrea să ştiu visul acela.``

and the king saith to them, `A dream I have dreamed, and moved is my spirit to know the dream.'

4 H aldeii au răspuns împăratului în limba aramaică:,, Vecinic să trăieşti, împărate! Spune robilor tăi visul, şi-ţi vom arăta tîlcuirea lui!``

And the Chaldeans speak to the king Aramaean, `O king, to the ages live, tell the dream to thy servants, and the interpretation we do shew.'

5 Î mpăratul a luat iarăş cuvîntul şi a zis Haldeilor:,, Mi -a scăpat din minte lucrul acela: dacă nu-mi veţi veţi face cunoscut visul şi tîlcuirea lui, veţi fi făcuţi bucăţi, şi casele voastre vor fi prefăcute într'un morman de murdării.

The king hath answered and said to the Chaldeans, `The thing from me is gone; if ye do not cause me to know the dream and its interpretation, pieces ye are made, and your houses are made dunghills;

6 D ar dacă-mi veţi spune visul şi tîlcuirea lui, veţi primi dela mine daruri şi răsplătiri, şi mare cinste. Deaceea, spuneţi-mi visul şi tălmăcirea lui!``

and if the dream and its interpretation ye do shew, gifts, and fee, and great glory ye receive from before me, therefore the dream and its interpretation shew ye me.'

7 E i au răspuns a doua oară:,, Să spună împăratul robilor săi visul, şi i -l vom tălmăci!``

They have answered a second time, and are saying, `Let the king tell the dream to his servants, and the interpretation we do shew.

8 Î mpăratul a luat iarăş cuvîntul şi a zis:,, Văd, cu adevărat, că voiţi să cîştigaţi vreme, pentru că vedeţi că lucrul mi -a scăpat din minte.

The king hath answered and said, `Of a truth I know that time ye are gaining, because that ye have seen that the thing is gone from me,

9 D acă deci nu-mi veţi spune visul, vă aşteaptă pe toţi aceeaş soartă, fiindcă vreţi să vă înţelegeţi ca să-mi spuneţi minciuni şi neadevăruri, pînă se vor schimba vremurile. De aceea, spuneţi-mi visul, ca să ştiu dacă sînteţi în stare să mi -l şi tîlcuiţi!``

that, if the dream ye do not cause me to know -- one is your sentence, seeing a word lying and corrupt ye have prepared to speak before me, till that the time is changed, therefore the dream tell ye to me, then do I know that its interpretation ye do shew me.'

10 H aldeii au răspuns împăratului:,, Nu este nimeni pe pămînt, care să poată spune ce cere împăratul; deaceea niciodată niciun împărat, oricît de mare şi puternic ar fi fost, n'a cerut aşa ceva dela niciun vrăjitor, cititor în stele sau Haldeu!

The Chaldeans have answered before the king, and are saying, `There is not a man on the earth who is able to shew the king's matter; therefore, no king, chief, and ruler, hath asked such a thing as this of any scribe, and enchanter, and Chaldean;

11 C e cere împăratul este greu; nu este nimeni care să spună lucrul acesta împăratului, afară de zei, a căror locuinţă nu este printre muritori!``

and the thing that the king is asking precious, and others are there not that do shew it before the king, save the gods, whose dwelling is not with flesh.'

12 L a auzul acestor cuvinte, împăratul s'a mîniat, şi s'a supărat foarte tare. A poruncit să piardă pe toţi înţelepţii Babilonului.

Therefore the king hath been angry and very wroth, and hath said to destroy all the wise men of Babylon;

13 H otărîrea ieşise, înţelepţii începuseră să fie omorîţi, şi căutau şi pe Daniel şi pe tovarăşii lui, ca să -i piardă.

And the sentence hath gone forth, and the wise men are being slain, and they have sought Daniel and his companions to be slain.

14 A tunci Daniel a vorbit cu minte şi cu judecată lui Arioc, căpetenia străjerilor împăratului, care ieşise să omoare pe înţelepţii Babilonului.

Then Daniel hath replied counsel and discretion to Arioch chief of the executioners of the king, who hath gone forth to slay the wise men of Babylon.

15 A luat cuvîntul şi a zis lui Arioc, căpitanul împăratului:,, Pentruce a dat împăratul o poruncă atît de aspră?`` Arioc a spus lui Daniel cum stau lucrurile.

He hath answered and said to Arioch the king's captain, `Wherefore the sentence so urgent from before the king?' Then Arioch hath made the thing known to Daniel,

16 Ş i Daniel s'a dus la împărat, şi l -a rugat să -i dea vreme ca să dea împăratului tîlcuirea.

and Daniel hath gone up, and sought of the king that he would give him time to shew the interpretation to the king.

17 A poi Daniel s'a dus în casa lui, şi a spus despre lucrul acesta tovarăşilor săi Hanania, Mişael şi Azaria,

Then Daniel to his house hath gone, and to Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, his companions, he hath made the thing known,

18 r ugîndu -i să ceară îndurarea Dumnezeului cerurilor pentru această taină, ca să nu piară Daniel şi tovarăşii săi odată cu ceilalţi înţelepţi ai Babilonului.

and to seek mercies from before the God of the heavens concerning this secret, that they destroy not Daniel and his companions with the rest of the wise men of Babylon.

19 D upă aceea i s'a descoperit lui Daniel taina într'o vedenie în timpul nopţii. Şi Daniel a binecuvîntat pe Dumnezeul cerurilor.

Then to Daniel, in a vision of the night, the secret hath been revealed. Then hath Daniel blessed the God of the heavens.

20 D aniel a luat cuvîntul şi a zis:,, Binecuvîntat să fie Numele lui Dumnezeu, din vecinicie în vecinicie! A Lui este înţelepciunea şi puterea.

Daniel hath answered and said, `Let the name of God be blessed from age even unto age, for wisdom and might -- for they are His.

21 E l schimbă vremurile şi împrejurările; El răstoarnă şi pune pe împăraţi; El dă înţelepciune înţelepţilor şi pricepere celor pricepuţi!

And He is changing times and seasons, He is causing kings to pass away, and He is raising up kings; He is giving wisdom to the wise, and knowledge to those possessing understanding.

22 E l descopere ce este adînc şi ascuns; El ştie ce este în întunerec şi la El locuieşte lumina....

He is revealing deep and hidden things; He hath known what in darkness, and light with Him hath dwelt.

23 P e Tine, Dumnezeul părinţilor mei, Te slăvesc şi Te laud că mi-ai dat înţelepciune şi putere, şi mi-ai făcut cunoscut ce Ţi-am cerut noi; căci ne-ai descoperit taina împăratului!``.

Thee, O God of my fathers, I am thanking and praising, for wisdom and might Thou hast given to me; and now, Thou hast caused me to know that which we have sought from Thee, for the king's matter Thou hast caused us to know.'

24 D upă aceea, Daniel s'a dus la Arioc, căruia îi poruncise împăratul să piardă pe înţelepţii Babilonului; s'a dus, şi i -a vorbit aşa:,, Nu pierde pe înţelepţii Babilonului! Du-mă înaintea împăratului, şi voi da împăratului tîlcuirea!``

Therefore Daniel hath gone up unto Arioch, whom the king hath appointed to destroy the wise men of Babylon; he hath gone, and thus hath said to him, `The wise men of Babylon thou dost not destroy, bring me up before the king, and the interpretation to the king I do shew.'

25 A rioc a dus degrabă pe Daniel înaintea împăratului, şi i -a vorbit aşa:,, Am găsit între prinşii de război ai lui Iuda un om care va da împăratului tîlcuirea!``

Then Arioch in haste hath brought up Daniel before the king, and thus hath said to him -- `I have found a man of the sons of the Removed of Judah, who the interpretation to the king doth make known.'

26 Î mpăratul a luat cuvîntul şi a zis lui Daniel, care se numea Beltşaţar:,, Eşti tu în stare să-mi spui visul pe care l-am visat şi tîlcuirea lui?``

The king hath answered and said to Daniel, whose name Belteshazzar, `Art thou able to cause me to know the dream that I have seen, and its interpretation?'

27 D aniel a răspuns înaintea împăratului, şi a zis:,, Ce cere împăratul este o taină pe care înţelepţii, cititorii în stele, vrăjitorii şi ghicitorii nu sînt în stare s'o descopere împăratului.

Daniel hath answered before the king and said, `The secret that the king is asking, the wise men, the enchanters, the scribes, the soothsayers, are not able to shew to the king;

28 D ar este în ceruri un Dumnezeu, care descopere tainele, şi care face cunoscut împăratului Nebucadneţar ce se va întîmpla în vremurile de pe urmă. Iată visul tău şi vedeniile pe cari le-ai avut în patul tău.

but there is a God in the heavens, a revealer of secrets, and He hath made known to king Nebuchadnezzar that which to be in the latter end of the days. `Thy dream and the visions of thy head on thy bed are these:

29 Î n patul tău, împărate, ţi-au venit în minte gînduri cu privire la cele ce vor fi după aceste vremuri; şi Celce descopere tainele ţi -a făcut cunoscut ce se va întîmpla.

Thou, O king, thy thoughts on thy bed have come up that which to be after this, and the Revealer of secrets hath caused thee to know that which to be.

30 Î nsă dacă mi s'a descoperit taina aceasta, nu înseamnă că este în mine o înţelepciune mai mare decît a tuturor celor vii, ci pentru ca să se dea împăratului tîlcuirea ei, şi să afli ce-ţi doreşte inima să ştii.

As to me -- not for wisdom that is in me above any living hath this secret been revealed to me; but for the intent that the interpretation to the king they make known, and the thoughts of thy heart thou dost know.

31 T u, împărate, te uitai, şi iată că ai văzut un chip mare. Chipul acesta era foarte mare, şi de o strălucire nemai pomenită. Stătea în picioare înaintea ta, şi înfăţişarea lui era înfricoşătoare.

`Thou, O king, wast looking, and lo, a certain great image. This image mighty, and its brightness excellent; it is standing over-against thee, and its appearance terrible.

32 C apul chipului acestuia era de aur curat; pieptul şi braţele îi erau de argint; pîntecele şi coapsele îi erau de aramă;

This image! its head of good gold, its breasts and its arms of silver, its belly and its thighs of brass;

33 f luierele picioarele, de fer; picioarele, parte de fer, şi parte de lut.

its legs of iron, its feet, part of them of iron, and part of them of clay.

34 T u te uitai la el, şi s'a deslipit o piatră, fără ajutorul vreunei mîni, a izbit picioarele de fer şi de lut ale chipului, şi le -a făcut bucăţi.

Thou wast looking till that a stone hath been cut out without hands, and it hath smitten the image on its feet, that of iron and of clay, and it hath broken them small;

35 A tunci ferul, lutul, arama, argintul şi aurul s'au sfărîmat împreună şi s'au făcut ca pleava din arie vara; le -a luat vîntul, şi nici urmă nu s'a mai găsit din ele. Dar piatra, care sfărîmase chipul, s'a făcut un munte mare, şi a umplut tot pămîntul.

then broken small together have been the iron, the clay, the brass, the silver, and the gold, and they have been as chaff from the summer threshing-floor, and carried them away hath the wind, and no place hath been found for them: and the stone that smote the image hath become a great mountain, and hath filled all the land.

36 I ată visul. Acum îi vom spune şi tîlcuirea înaintea împăratului.

This the dream, and its interpretation we do tell before the king.

37 T u, împărate, eşti împăratul împăraţilor, căci Dumnezeul cerurilor ţi -a dat împărăţie, putere, bogăţie şi slavă.

`Thou, O king, art a king of kings, for the God of the heavens a kingdom, strength, and might, and glory, hath given to thee;

38 E l ţi -a dat în mîni, ori unde locuiesc ei, pe copiii oamenilor, fiarele cîmpului şi păsările cerului, şi te -a făcut stăpîn peste toate acestea: tu eşti capul de aur!

and whithersoever sons of men are dwelling, the beast of the field, and the fowl of the heavens, He hath given into thy hand, and hath caused thee to rule over them all; thou this head of gold.

39 D upă tine, se va ridica o altă împărăţie, mai neînsemnată decît a ta; apoi o a treia împărăţie, care va fi de aramă, şi care va stăpîni peste tot pămîntul.

And after thee doth rise up another kingdom lower than those, and another third kingdom of brass, that doth rule overall the earth.

40 V a fi o a patra împărăţie, tare ca ferul; după cum ferul sfărîmă şi rupe totul, şi ea va sfărîma şi va rupe totul, ca ferul care face totul bucăţi.

And the fourth kingdom is strong as iron, because that iron is breaking small, and making feeble, all, even as iron that is breaking all these, it beateth small and breaketh.

41 Ş i după cum ai văzut picioarele şi degetele picioarelor parte de lut de olar şi parte de fer, tot aşa şi împărăţia aceasta va fi împărţită; dar va rămînea în ea ceva din tăria ferului, tocmai aşa cum ai văzut ferul amestecat cu lutul.

As to that which thou hast seen: the feet and toes, part of them potter's clay, and part of them iron, the kingdom is divided: and some of the standing of the iron to be in it, because that thou hast seen the iron mixed with miry clay.

42 Ş i după cum degetele dela picioare erau parte de fer şi parte de lut, tot aşa şi împărăţia aceasta va fi în parte tare şi în parte plăpîndă.

As to the toes of the feet, part of them iron, and part of them clay: some part of the kingdom is strong, and some part of it is brittle.

43 D acă ai văzut ferul amestecat cu lutul, înseamnă că se vor amesteca prin legături omeneşti de căsătorie, dar nu vor fi lipiţi unul de altul, după cum ferul nu se poate uni cu lutul.

Because thou hast seen iron mixed with miry clay, they are mixing themselves with the seed of men: and they are not adhering one with another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

44 D ar în vremea acestor împăraţi, Dumnezeul cerurilor va ridica o împărăţie, care nu va fi nimicită niciodată, şi care nu va trece supt stăpînirea unui alt popor. Ea va sfărîma şi va nimici toate acele împărăţii, şi ea însăş va dăinui vecinic.

`And in the days of these kings raise up doth the God of the heavens a kingdom that is not destroyed -- to the age, and its kingdom to another people is not left: it beateth small and endeth all these kingdoms, and it standeth to the age.

45 A ceasta înseamnă piatra, pe care ai văzut -o deslipindu-se din munte, fără ajutorul vreunei mîni, şi care a sfărîmat ferul, arama, lutul, argintul şi aurul. Dumnezeul cel mare a făcut deci cunoscut împăratului ce are să se întîmple după aceasta. Visul este adevărat, şi tîlcuirea lui este temeinică.``

Because that thou hast seen that out of the mountain cut hath been a stone without hands, and it hath beaten small the iron, the brass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the king that which to be after this; and the dream true, and its interpretation stedfast.

46 A tunci împăratul Nebucadneţar a căzut cu faţa la pămînt şi s'a închinat înaintea lui Daniel, şi a poruncit să i se aducă jertfe de mîncare şi miresme.

Then hath king Nebuchadnezzar fallen on his face, and to Daniel he hath done obeisance, and present, and sweet things, he hath said to pour out to him.

47 Î mpăratul a vorbit lui Daniel şi a zis:,, Cu adevărat, Dumnezeul vostru este Dumnezeul dumnezeilor şi Domnul împăraţilor, şi El descopere tainele, fiindcă ai putut să descoperi taina aceasta!``

The king hath answered Daniel and said, `Of a truth that your God is a God of gods, and a Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, since thou hast been able to reveal this secret.'

48 A poi împăratul a înălţat pe Daniel, şi i -a dat daruri multe şi bogate; i -a dat stăpînire peste tot ţinutul Babilonului, şi l -a pus ca cea mai înaltă căpetenie a tuturor înţelepţilor Babilonului.

Then the king hath made Daniel great, and many great gifts he hath given to him, and hath caused him to rule over all the province of Babylon, and chief of the perfects over all the wise men of Babylon.

49 D aniel a rugat pe împărat să dea grija trebilor ţinutului Babilonului în mîna lui Şadrac, Meşac şi Abed-Nego. Daniel însă a rămas la curtea împăratului.

And Daniel hath sought from the king, and he hath appointed over the work of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and Daniel in the gate of the king.
