1 D acă vezi rătăcindu-se boul sau oaia fratelui tău, să nu le ocoleşti, ci să le aduci la fratele tău.

`Thou dost not see the ox of thy brother or his sheep driven away, and hast hidden thyself from them, thou dost certainly turn them back to thy brother;

2 D acă fratele tău nu locuieşte lîngă tine, şi nu -l cunoşti, să iei dobitocul la tine acasă, şi să rămînă la tine pînă ce -l cere fratele tău; şi atunci să i -l dai.

and if thy brother not near unto thee, and thou hast not known him, then thou hast removed it unto the midst of thy house, and it hath been with thee till thy brother seek it, and thou hast given it back to him;

3 T ot aşa să faci şi cu măgarul lui, tot aşa să faci şi cu haina lui, şi tot aşa să faci cu orice lucru pierdut de el şi găsit de tine: să nu le ocoleşti.

and so thou dost to his ass, and so thou dost to his garment, and so thou dost to any lost thing of thy brother's, which is lost by him, and thou hast found it; thou art not able to hide thyself.

4 D acă vezi măgarul fratelui tău sau boul lui căzut pe drum, să nu -l ocoleşti, ci să -i ajuţi să -l ridice.

`Thou dost not see the ass of thy brother, or his ox, falling in the way, and hast hid thyself from them; thou dost certainly raise up with him.

5 F emeia să nu poarte îmbrăcăminte bărbătească, şi bărbatul să nu se îmbrace cu haine femeieşti; căci oricine face lucrurile acestea este o urîciune înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău.

`The habiliments of a man are not on a woman, nor doth a man put on the garment of a woman, for the abomination of Jehovah thy God any one doing these.

6 D acă întîlneşti pe drum un cuib de pasăre, într'un copac sau pe pămînt, cu pui sau ouă şi mama lor şezînd peste pui sau peste ouă, să nu iei şi pe mama şi pe puii ei,

`When a bird's nest cometh before thee in the way, in any tree, or on the earth, brood or eggs, and the mother sitting on the brood or on the eggs, thou dost not take the mother with the young ones;

7 c i să dai drumul mamei şi să nu iei decît puii, ca să fii fericit şi să ai zile multe.

thou dost certainly send away the mother, and the young ones dost take to thyself, so that it is well with thee, and thou hast prolonged days.

8 C înd zideşti o casă nouă, să-ţi faci un pălimar împrejurul acoperişului, ca să nu aduci vină de sînge asupra casei tale, dacă s'ar întîmpla să cadă cineva de pe ea.

`When thou buildest a new house, then thou hast made a parapet to thy roof, and thou dost not put blood on thy house when one falleth from it.

9 S ă nu sameni în via ta două feluri de seminţe, ca nu cumva să întinezi şi rodul seminţei pe care ai sămănat -o şi rodul viei.

`Thou dost not sow thy vineyard divers things, lest the fulness of the seed which thou dost sow, and the increase of the vineyard, be separated.

10 S ă nu ari cu un bou şi un măgar înjugaţi împreună.

`Thou dost not plow with an ox and with an ass together.

11 S ă nu porţi o haină ţesută din felurite fire, din lînă şi in unite împreună.

`Thou dost not put on a mixed cloth, wool and linen together.

12 S ă faci ciucuri la cele patru colţuri ale hainei cu care te vei înveli.

`Fringes thou dost make to thee on the four skirts of thy covering with which thou dost cover.

13 D acă un om, care şi -a luat o nevastă şi s'a împreunat cu ea, o urăşte

`When a man taketh a wife, and hath gone in unto her, and hated her,

14 a poi, o învinuieşte de lucruri nelegiuite şi -i scoate nume rău, zicînd:,, Am luat pe femeia aceasta, m'am apopiat de ea, şi n'am găsit -o fecioară``, -

and laid against her actions of words, and brought out against her an evil name, and said, This woman I have taken, and I draw near unto her, and I have not found in her tokens of virginity:

15 a tunci tatăl şi mama fetei să ia semnele fecioriei ei şi să le aducă înaintea bătrînilor cetăţii, la poartă.

`Then hath the father of the damsel -- and her mother -- taken and brought out the tokens of virginity of the damsel unto the elders of the city in the gate,

16 T atăl fetei să spună bătrînilor:,, Am dat pe fiică-mea de nevastă omului acestuia, şi el a început s'o urască;

and the father of the damsel hath said unto the elders, My daughter I have given to this man for a wife, and he doth hate her;

17 a cum o învinuieşte de lucruri nelegiuite, zicînd:, N'am găsit fecioară pe fiică-ta.` Dar iată semnele fecioriei fetei mele.`` Şi să desfacă haina ei înaintea bătrînilor cetăţii.

and lo, he hath laid actions of words, saying, I have not found to thy daughter tokens of virginity -- and these the tokens of the virginity of my daughter! and they have spread out the garment before the elders of the city.

18 B ătrînii cetăţii să ia atunci pe omul acela şi să -l pedepsească;

`And the elders of that city have taken the man, and chastise him,

19 ş i, pentrucă a scos nume rău unei fecioare din Israel, să -l osîndească la o gloabă de o sută sicli de argint, pe cari să -i dea tatălui fetei. Ea să rămînă nevasta lui, şi el nu va putea s'o gonească toată viaţa lui.

and fined him a hundred silverlings, and given to the father of the damsel, because he hath brought out an evil name on a virgin of Israel, and she is to him for a wife, he is not able to send her away all his days.

20 D ar dacă faptul este adevărat, dacă fata nu s'a găsit fecioară,

`And if this thing hath been truth -- tokens of virginity have not been found for the damsel --

21 s ă scoată pe fată la uşa casei tatălui ei; să fie ucisă cu pietre de oamenii din cetate, şi să moară, pentrucă a săvîrşit o mişelie în Israel, curvind în casa tatălui ei. Să curăţi astfel răul din mijlocul tău.

then they have brought out the damsel unto the opening of her father's house, and stoned her have the men of her city with stones, and she hath died, for she hath done folly in Israel, to go a-whoring her father's house; and thou hast put away the evil thing out of thy midst.

22 D acă se va găsi un bărbat culcat cu o femeie măritată, să moară amîndoi: şi bărbatul care s'a culcat cu femeia, şi femeia. Să curăţi astfel răul din mijlocul lui Israel.

`When a man is found lying with a woman, married to a husband, then they have died even both of them, the man who is lying with the woman, also the woman; and thou hast put away the evil thing out of Israel.

23 D acă o fată fecioară este logodită, şi o întîlneşte un om în cetate şi se culcă cu ea,

`When there is a damsel, a virgin, betrothed to a man, and a man hath found her in a city, and lain with her;

24 s ă -i aduceţi pe amîndoi la poarta cetăţii, să -i ucideţi cu pietre, şi să moară amîndoi: fata, pentrucă n'a ţipat în cetate, şi omul, pentrucă a necinstit pe nevasta aproapelui său. Să curăţi astfel răul din mijlocul tău.

then ye have brought them both out unto the gate of that city, and stoned them with stones, and they have died: -- the damsel, because that she hath not cried, in a city; and the man, because that he hath humbled his neighbour's wife; and thou hast put away the evil thing out of thy midst.

25 D ar dacă omul acela întîlneşte în cîmp pe fata logodită, o apucă cu sila şi se culcă cu ea, numai omul care s'a culcat cu ea să fie pedepsit cu moartea.

`And if in a field the man find the damsel who is betrothed, and the man hath laid hold on her, and lain with her, then hath the man who hath lain with her died alone;

26 F etei să nu -i faci nimic; ea nu este vinovată de o nelegiuire vrednică de pedeapsa cu moarte, căci e ca şi cu un om care se aruncă asupra aproapelui lui şi -l omoară.

and to the damsel thou dost not do anything, the damsel hath no deadly sin; for as a man riseth against his neighbour and hath murdered him -- the life, so this thing;

27 F ata logodită, pe care a întîlnit -o omul acela pe cîmp, a putut să strige fără să fie cineva să -i sară în ajutor.

for in a field he found her, she hath cried -- the damsel who is betrothed -- and she hath no saviour.

28 D acă un om întîlneşte o fată fecioară nelogodită, o apucă cu sila şi se culcă cu ea, şi se întîmplă să fie prinşi,

`When a man findeth a damsel, a virgin who is not betrothed, and hath caught her, and lain with her, and they have been found,

29 o mul care s'a culcat cu ea să dea tatălui fetei cincizeci de sicli de argint; şi, pentrucă a necinstit -o, s'o ia de nevastă, şi nu va putea s'o gonească, toată viaţa lui.

then hath the man who is lying with her given to the father of the damsel fifty silverlings, and to him she is for a wife; because that he hath humbled her, he is not able to send her away all his days.

30 N imeni să nu ia pe nevasta tatălui său, şi nici să nu ridice învelitoarea tatălui său.

`A man doth not take his father's wife, nor uncover his father's skirt.
