1 D imineaţa, preoţii cei mai de seamă au făcut îndată sfat cu bătrînii, cărturarii şi tot Soborul. Dupăce au legat pe Isus, L-au dus şi L-au dat în mînile lui Pilat.

And immediately, in the morning, the chief priests having made a consultation, with the elders, and scribes, and the whole sanhedrim, having bound Jesus, did lead away, and delivered to Pilate;

2 P ilat L -a întrebat:,, Eşti Tu Împăratul Iudeilor?``,, Da, sînt``, i -a răspuns Isus.

and Pilate questioned him, `Art thou the king of the Jews?' and he answering said to him, `Thou dost say.'

3 P reoţii cei mai de seamă Îl învinuiau de multe lucruri.

And the chief priests were accusing him of many things,

4 P ilat L -a întrebat din nou:,, Nu răspunzi nimic? Uite de cîte lucruri Te învinuiesc ei!``

And Pilate again questioned him, saying, `Thou dost not answer anything! lo, how many things they do testify against thee!'

5 I sus n'a mai dat nici un răspuns, lucru care a mirat pe Pilat.

and Jesus did no more answer anything, so that Pilate wondered.

6 L a fiecare praznic al Paştelor, Pilat le slobozea un întemniţat, pe care -l cereau ei.

And at every feast he was releasing to them one prisoner, whomsoever they were asking;

7 Î n temniţă era unul numit Baraba, închis împreună cu tovarăşii lui, din pricina unui omor, pe care -l săvîrşiseră într'o răscoală.

and there was named Barabbas, bound with those making insurrection with him, who had in the insurrection committed murder.

8 N orodul s'a suit, şi a început să ceară lui Pilat să le dea ce avea obicei să le dea totdeauna.

And the multitude having cried out, began to ask for themselves as he was always doing to them,

9 P ilat le -a răspuns:,, Voiţi să vă slobozesc pe Împăratul Iudeilor?``

and Pilate answered them, saying, `Will ye I shall release to you the king of the Jews?'

10 C ăci pricepuse că preoţii cei mai de seamă din pizmă Îl dăduseră în mîna lui.

for he knew that because of envy the chief priests had delivered him up;

11 D ar preoţii cei mai de seamă au aţîţat norodul să ceară lui Pilat să le slobozească mai bine pe Baraba.

and the chief priests did move the multitude, that he might rather release Barabbas to them.

12 P ilat a luat din nou cuvîntul, şi le -a zis:,, Dar ce voiţi să fac cu Acela, pe care -L numiţi Împăratul Iudeilor?``

And Pilate answering, again said to them, `What, then, will ye I shall do to him whom ye call king of the Jews?'

13 E i au strigat din nou:,, Răstigneşte -L!``

and they again cried out, `Crucify him.'

14 D ar ce rău a făcut?`` le -a zis Pilat. Însă ei au început să strige şi mai tare:,, Răstigneşte -L!``

And Pilate said to them, `Why -- what evil did he?' and they cried out the more vehemently, `Crucify him;'

15 P ilat a vrut să facă pe placul norodului, şi le -a slobozit pe Baraba; iar pe Isus, dupăce a pus să -L bată cu nuiele, L -a dat să fie răstignit.

and Pilate, wishing to content the multitude, released to them Barabbas, and delivered up Jesus -- having scourged -- that he might be crucified.

16 O staşii au adus pe Isus în curte, adică în palat, şi au adunat toată ceata ostaşilor.

And the soldiers led him away into the hall, which is Praetorium, and call together the whole band,

17 L -au îmbrăcat într'o haină de purpură, au împletit o cunună de spini, şi I-au pus -o pe cap.

and clothe him with purple, and having plaited a crown of thorns, they put on him,

18 A poi au început să -I ureze, şi să zică:,, Plecăciune, Împăratul Iudeilor!``

and began to salute him, `Hail, King of the Jews.'

19 Ş i -L loveau în cap cu o trestie, Îl scuipau, îngenuncheau şi I se închinau.

And they were smiting him on the head with a reed, and were spitting on him, and having bent the knee, were bowing to him,

20 D upăce şi-au bătut astfel joc de El, L-au desbrăcat de haina de purpură, L-au îmbrăcat în hainele Lui, şi L-au dus să -L răstignească.

and when they mocked him, they took the purple from off him, and clothed him in his own garments, and they led him forth, that they may crucify him.

21 A u silit să ducă crucea lui Isus pe un trecător, care se întorcea dela cîmp, numit Simon din Cirena, tatăl lui Alexandru şi al lui Ruf.

And they impress a certain one passing by -- Simon, a Cyrenian, coming from the field, the father of Alexander and Rufus -- that he may bear his cross,

22 Ş i au adus pe Isus la locul numit Golgota, care, tîlmăcit, însemnează:,, Locul căpăţînii.``

and they bring him to the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, `Place of a skull;'

23 I -au dat să bea vin amestecat cu smirnă, dar El nu l -a luat.

and they were giving him to drink wine mingled with myrrh, and he did not receive.

24 D upăce L-au răstignit, I-au împărţit hainele între ei, trăgînd la sorţi, ca să ştie ce să ia fiecare.

And having crucified him, they were dividing his garments, casting a lot upon them, what each may take;

25 C înd L-au răstignit, era ceasul al treilea.

and it was the third hour, and they crucified him;

26 D easupra Lui era scrisă vina Lui:,,Împăratul Iudeilor.``

and the inscription of his accusation was written above -- `The King of the Jews.'

27 Î mpreună cu El au răstignit doi tîlhari, unul la dreapta şi altul la stînga Lui.

And with him they crucify two robbers, one on the right hand, and one on his left,

28 A stfel s'a împlinit Scriptura, care zice:,, A fost pus în numărul celor fărădelege.``

and the Writing was fulfilled that is saying, `And with lawless ones he was numbered.'

29 T recătorii îşi băteau joc de El, dădeau din cap, şi ziceau:,, Uă! Tu, care strici Templul, şi -l zideşti la loc în trei zile,

And those passing by were speaking evil of him, shaking their heads, and saying, `Ah, the thrower down of the sanctuary, and in three days the builder!

30 m întuieşte-Te pe Tine însuţi, şi pogoară-Te de pe cruce!``

save thyself, and come down from the cross!'

31 T ot astfel şi preoţii cei mai de seamă, împreună cu cărturarii îşi băteau joc de El între ei, şi ziceau:,, Pe alţii i -a mîntuit, şi pe Sine însuş nu Se poate mîntui!

And in like manner also the chief priests, mocking with one another, with the scribes, said, `Others he saved; himself he is not able to save.

32 H ristosul, Împăratul lui Israel, să Se pogoare acum de pe cruce, ca să vedem şi să credem!`` Cei răstigniţi împreună cu El, deasemenea îşi băteau joc de El.

The Christ! the king of Israel -- let him come down now from the cross, that we may see and believe;' and those crucified with him were reproaching him.

33 L a ceasul al şaselea, s'a făcut întunerec peste toată ţara, pînă la ceasul al nouălea.

And the sixth hour having come, darkness came over the whole land till the ninth hour,

34 Ş i în ceasul al nouălea, Isus a strigat cu glas tare:,, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabactani`` care, tîlmăcit, înseamnă:,, Dumnezeul Meu, Dumnezeul Meu, pentruce M'ai părăsit?``

and at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a great voice, saying, `Eloi, Eloi, lamma sabachthani?' which is, being interpreted, `My God, my God, why didst Thou forsake me?'

35 U nii din cei ce stăteau acolo, cînd L-au auzit, ziceau:,, Iată, cheamă pe Ilie!``

And certain of those standing by, having heard, said, `Lo, Elijah he doth call;'

36 Ş i unul din ei a alergat de a umplut un burete cu oţet, l -a pus într'o trestie, şi I -a dat să bea, zicînd:,, Lăsaţi să vedem dacă va veni Ilie să -L pogoare de pe cruce!``

and one having run, and having filled a spunge with vinegar, having put also on a reed, was giving him to drink, saying, `Let alone, let us see if Elijah doth come to take him down.'

37 D ar Isus a scos un strigăt tare, şi Şi -a dat duhul.

And Jesus having uttered a loud cry, yielded the spirit,

38 P erdeaua dinlăuntrul Templului s'a rupt în două de sus pînă jos.

and the veil of the sanctuary was rent in two, from top to bottom,

39 S utaşul, care sta în faţa lui Isus, cînd a văzut că Şi -a dat astfel duhul, a zis:,, Cu adevărat, omul acesta era Fiul lui Dumnezeu!``

and the centurion who was standing over-against him, having seen that, having so cried out, he yielded the spirit, said, `Truly this man was Son of God.'

40 A colo erau şi nişte femei, cari priveau de departe. Printre ele erau Maria Magdalina, Maria, mama lui Iacov cel mic şi a lui Iose, şi Salome,

And there were also women afar off beholding, among whom was also Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of James the less, and of Joses, and Salome,

41 c ari, pe cînd era El în Galilea, mergeau după El şi -I slujeau; şi multe alte femei, cari se suiseră împreună cu El în Ierusalim.

(who also, when he was in Galilee, were following him, and were ministering to him,) and many other women who came up with him to Jerusalem.

42 C înd s'a înserat-fiindcă era ziua Pregătirii, adică, ziua dinaintea Sabatului. -

And now evening having come, seeing it was the preparation, that is, the fore-sabbath,

43 a venit Iosif din Arimatea, un sfetnic cu vază al soborului, care şi el aştepta Împărăţia lui Dumnezeu. El a îndrăznit să se ducă la Pilat ca să ceară trupul lui Isus.

Joseph of Arimathea, an honourable counsellor, who also himself was waiting for the reign of God, came, boldly entered in unto Pilate, and asked the body of Jesus.

44 P ilat s'a mirat că murise aşa de curînd; a chemat pe sutaş, şi l -a întrebat dacă a murit de mult.

And Pilate wondered if he were already dead, and having called near the centurion, did question him if he were long dead,

45 D upă ce s'a încredinţat de la sutaş că a murit, a dăruit lui Iosif trupul.

and having known from the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.

46 Ş i Iosif a cumpărat o pînză subţire de in, a dat jos pe Isus de pe cruce, L -a înfăşurat în pînza de in, şi L -a pus într-un mormînt săpat în stîncă. Apoi a prăvălit o piatră la uşa mormîntului.

And he, having brought fine linen, and having taken him down, wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre that had been hewn out of a rock, and he rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre,

47 M aria Magdalina şi Maria, mama lui Iose, se uitau unde -L puneau.

and Mary the Magdalene, and Mary of Joses, were beholding where he is laid.
