1 E lihu a luat din nou cuvîntul, şi a zis:

And Elihu answereth and saith: --

2 î nchipuieşti că ai dreptate, şi crezi că te îndreptăţeşti înaintea lui Dumnezeu,

This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said -- `My righteousness more than God's?'

3 c înd zici:, La ce-mi foloseşte, ce cîştig am că nu păcătuiesc?`

For thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?'

4 Î ţi voi răspunde şi la aceasta, ţie, şi prietenilor tăi totodată.

I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,

5 U ită-te spre ceruri, şi priveşte! Vezi norii, cît de sus sînt faţă de tine?

Behold attentively the heavens -- and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.

6 D acă păcătuieşti, ce rău Îi faci Lui? Şi cînd păcatele ţi se înmulţesc, ce -I faci Lui?

If thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?

7 D acă eşti drept, ce -I dai Lui? Ce primeşte El din mîna ta?

If thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?

8 R ăutatea ta nu poate vătăma decît semenului tău, dreptatea ta nu foloseşte decît fiului omului.

For a man like thyself thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.

9 O amenii strigă împotriva mulţimii apăsătorilor, se plîng de silnicia multora;

Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.

10 d ar niciunul nu zice:, Unde este Dumnezeu, Făcătorul meu, care ne insuflă cîntări de veselie noaptea,

And none said, `Where God my maker? Giving songs in the night,

11 c are ne învaţă mai mult decît pe dobitoacele pămîntului, şi ne dă mai multă pricepere decît păsărilor cerului?`

Teaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.'

12 S ă tot strige ei atunci, căci Dumnezeu nu răspunde, din pricina mîndriei celor răi.

There they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.

13 D egeaba strigă, căci Dumnezeu n'ascultă, Cel Atotputernic nu ia aminte.

Surely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.

14 M ăcarcă zici că nu -L vezi, totuş pricina ta este înaintea Lui: aşteaptă -L!

Yea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment before Him, and stay for Him.

15 D ar, pentru că mînia Lui nu pedepseşte încă, nu înseamnă că puţin Îi pasă de nelegiuire.

And, now, because there is not, He hath appointed His anger, And He hath not known in great extremity.

16 A şa că Iov îşi deschide gura degeaba, şi spune o mulţime de vorbe fără rost.``

And Job vanity doth open his mouth, Without knowledge words he multiplieth.
