1 I osua a adunat toate seminţiile lui Israel la Sihem, şi a chemat pe bătrînii lui Israel, pe căpeteniile lui, pe judecătorii lui şi pe căpeteniile oastei. Ei s'au înfăţişat înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

And Joshua gathereth all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and calleth for the elders of Israel, and for its heads, and for its judges, and for its authorities, and they station themselves before God.

2 I osua a zis întregului popor:,, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel:, Părinţii voştri Terah, tatăl lui Avraam şi tatăl lui Nahor, locuiau în vechime de cealaltă parte a Rîului (Eufrat), şi slujeau altor dumnezei.

And Joshua saith unto all the people, `Thus said Jehovah, God of Israel, Beyond the River have your fathers dwelt of old -- Terah father of Abraham and father of Nachor -- and they serve other gods;

3 E u am luat pe tatăl vostru Avraam din cealaltă parte a Rîului, şi l-am purtat prin toată ţara Canaanului; i-am înmulţit sămînţa, şi i-am dat pe Isaac.

and I take your father Abraham from beyond the River, and cause him to go through all the land of Canaan, and multiply his seed, and give to him Isaac.

4 L ui Isaac i-am dat pe Iacov şi pe Esau: lui Esau i-am dat în stăpînire muntele Seir, iar Iacov şi fiii lui s'au pogorît în Egipt.

And I give to Isaac, Jacob and Esau; and I give to Esau mount Seir, to possess it; and Jacob and his sons have gone down to Egypt.

5 A m trimes pe Moise şi pe Aaron şi am lovit Egiptul cu minunile pe cari le-am făcut în mijlocul lui; apoi v'am scos afară din el.

And I send Moses and Aaron, and plague Egypt, as I have done in its midst, and afterwards I have brought you out.

6 A m scos pe părinţii voştri din Egipt, şi aţi ajuns la mare. Egiptenii au urmărit pe părinţii voştri pînă la marea Roşie, cu cară şi călăreţi.

And I bring out your fathers from Egypt, and ye go into the sea, and the Egyptians pursue after your fathers, with chariot and with horsemen, to the Red Sea;

7 P ărinţii voştri au strigat către Domnul. Şi Domnul a pus întunerec între voi şi Egipteni, a adus marea înapoi peste ei, şi i -a acoperit. Aţi văzut cu ochii voştri ce am făcut Egiptenilor. Şi aţi rămas multă vreme în pustie.

and they cry unto Jehovah, and He setteth thick darkness between you and the Egyptians, and bringeth on them the sea, and covereth them, and your eyes see that which I have done in Egypt; and ye dwell in a wilderness many days.

8 V 'am adus în ţara Amoriţilor, cari locuiau dincolo de Iordan, şi ei au luptat împotriva voastră. I-am dat în mînile voastre; aţi pus stăpînire pe ţara lor, şi i-am nimicit dinaintea voastră.

`And I bring you in unto the land of the Amorite who is dwelling beyond the Jordan, and they fight with you, and I give them into your hand, and ye possess their land, and I destroy them out of your presence.

9 B alac, fiul lui Ţipor, împăratul Moabului, s'a sculat şi a pornit la luptă împotriva lui Israel. A chemat pe Balaam, fiul lui Beor, ca să vă blastăme.

`And Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab, riseth and fighteth against Israel, and sendeth and calleth for Balaam son of Beor, to revile you,

10 D ar n'am vrut să ascult pe Balaam: el v'a binecuvîntat, şi v'am izbăvit din mîna lui Balac.

and I have not been willing to hearken to Balaam, and he doth greatly bless you, and I deliver you out of his hand.

11 A ţi trecut Iordanul, şi aţi ajuns la Ierihon. Locuitorii Ierihonului au luptat împotriva voastră: Amoriţii, Fereziţii, Cananiţii, Hetiţii, Ghirgasiţii, Heviţii şi Iebusiţii. I-am dat în mînile voastre,

`And ye pass over the Jordan, and come in unto Jericho, and fight against you do the possessors of Jericho -- the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Girgashite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite -- and I give them into your hand.

12 a m trimes înaintea voastră viespe bondărească, şi i -a izgonit dinaintea voastră, ca pe cei doi împăraţi ai Amoriţilor: nu cu sabia, nici cu arcul tău.

And I send before you the hornet, and it casteth them out from your presence -- two kings of the Amorite -- not by thy sword, nor by thy bow.

13 V 'am dat o ţară pe care n'o munciserăţi, cetăţi pe cari nu le zidiserăţi, dar pe cari le locuiţi, vii şi măslini pe cari nu -i sădiserăţi, dar cari vă slujesc ca hrană.

`And I give to you a land for which thou hast not laboured, and cities which ye have not built, and ye dwell in them; of vineyards and olive-yards which ye have not planted ye are eating.

14 A cum, temeţi-vă de Domnul, şi slujiţi -I cu scumpătate şi credincioşie. Depărtaţi dumnezeii cărora le-au slujit părinţii voştri dincolo de Rîu şi în Egipt, şi slujiţi Domnului.

`And now, fear ye Jehovah, and serve Him, in perfection and in truth, and turn aside the gods which your fathers served beyond the River, and in Egypt, and serve ye Jehovah;

15 Ş i dacă nu găsiţi cu cale să slujiţi Domnului, alegeţi astăzi cui vreţi să slujiţi: sau dumnezeilor cărora le slujeau părinţii voştri dincolo de Rîu, sau dumnezeilor Amoriţilor în a căror ţară locuiţi. Cît despre mine, eu şi casa mea vom sluji Domnului``.

and if wrong in your eyes to serve Jehovah -- choose for you to-day whom ye do serve; -- whether the gods whom your fathers served, which beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorite in whose land ye are dwelling; and I and my house -- we serve Jehovah.'

16 P oporul a răspuns, şi a zis:,, Departe de noi gîndul să părăsim pe Domnul, şi să slujim altor dumnezei.

And the people answer and say, `Far be it from us to forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods;

17 C ăci Domnul este Dumnezeul nostru. El ne -a scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa robiei, pe noi şi pe părinţii noştri; El a făcut înaintea ochilor noştri acele minuni mari, şi ne -a păzit în tot timpul drumului pe care l-am urmat şi în mijlocul tuturor popoarelor, pela cari am trecut.

for Jehovah our God He who is bringing us and our fathers up out of the land of Egypt, out of a house of servants, and who hath done before our eyes these great signs, and doth keep us in all the way in which we have gone, and among all the peoples through whose midst we passed;

18 E l a izgonit dinaintea noastră pe toate popoarele, şi pe Amoriţii cari locuiau ţara aceasta. Şi noi vom sluji Domnului, căci El este Dumnezeul nostru.``

and Jehovah casteth out the whole of the peoples, even the Amorite inhabiting the land, from our presence; we also do serve Jehovah, for He our God.'

19 I osua a zis poporului:,, Voi nu veţi putea să slujiţi Domnului, căci este un Dumnezeu sfînt, un Dumnezeu gelos; El nu vă va ierta fărădelegile şi păcatele.

And Joshua saith unto the people, `Ye are not able to serve Jehovah, for a God most holy He; a zealous God He; He doth not bear with your transgression and with your sins.

20 C înd veţi părăsi pe Domnul, şi veţi sluji unor dumnezei străini, El Se va întoarce, şi vă va face rău, şi vă va nimici, după ce v'a făcut bine``.

When ye forsake Jehovah, and have served gods of a stranger, then He hath turned back and done evil to you, and consumed you, after that He hath done good to you.'

21 P oporul a zis lui Iosua:,, Nu! căci vom sluji Domnului``.

And the people saith unto Joshua, `No, but Jehovah we do serve.'

22 I osua a zis poporului:,, Voi sînteţi martori împotriva voastră înşivă că aţi ales pe Domnul, ca să -I slujiţi.`` Ei au răspuns:,, Sîntem martori!``

And Joshua saith unto the people, `Witnesses ye are against yourselves, that ye have chosen for you Jehovah to serve Him (and they say, `Witnesses!')

23 S coateţi dar dumnezeii străini cari sînt în mijlocul vostru, şi întoarceţi-vă inima spre Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel.``

and, now, turn aside the gods of the stranger which in your midst, and incline your heart unto Jehovah, God of Israel.'

24 Ş i poporul a zis lui Iosua:,, Noi vom sluji Domnului, Dumnezeului nostru, şi vom asculta glasul Lui``.

And the people say unto Joshua, `Jehovah our God we serve, and to His voice we hearken.'

25 I osua a făcut în ziua aceea un legămînt cu poporul, şi i -a dat legi şi porunci, la Sihem.

And Joshua maketh a covenant with the people on that day, and layeth on it a statute and an ordinance, in Shechem.

26 I osua a scris aceste lucruri în cartea legii lui Dumnezeu. A luat o piatră mare, şi a ridicat -o acolo subt stejarul care era în locul închinat Domnului.

And Joshua writeth these words in the Book of the Law of God, and taketh a great stone, and raiseth it up there under the oak which in the sanctuary of Jehovah.

27 Ş i Iosua a zis întregului popor:,, Iată, piatra aceasta va fi martoră împotriva noastră, căci a auzit toate cuvîntele pe cari ni le -a spus Domnul, ea va fi martoră împotriva voastră, ca să nu fiţi necredincioşi Dumnezeului vostru``.

And Joshua saith unto all the people, `Lo, this stone is against us for a witness, for it hath heard all the sayings of Jehovah which He hath spoken with us, and it hath been against you for a witness, lest ye lie against your God.'

28 A poi Iosua a dat drumul poporului, şi s'a dus fiecare în moştenirea lui.

And Joshua sendeth the people away, each to his inheritance.

29 D upă aceste lucruri, Iosua, fiul lui Nun, robul Domnului, a murit, în vîrstă de o sută zece ani.

And it cometh to pass, after these things, that Joshua son of Nun, servant of Jehovah, dieth, a son of a hundred and ten years,

30 L -au înmormîntat în ţinutul care -i căzuse la împărţeală, la Timnat-Serah, în muntele lui Efraim, la miazănoapte de muntele Gaaş.

and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Serah, which in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the hill of Gaash.

31 I srael a slujit Domnului în tot timpul vieţii lui Iosua, şi în tot timpul vieţii bătrînilor cari au trăit după Iosua şi cari cunoşteau tot ce făcuse Domnul pentru Israel.

And Israel serveth Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who prolonged days after Joshua, and who knew all the work of Jehovah which He did to Israel.

32 O asele lui Iosif, pe cari le aduseseră copiii lui Israel din Egipt, au fost îngropate la Sihem, în partea ţarinei pe care o cumpărase Iacov dela fiii lui Hamor, tatăl lui Sihem, cu o sută de chesita, şi care a ajuns moştenirea fiilor lui Iosif.

And the bones of Joseph, which the sons of Israel brought up out of Egypt, they buried in Shechem, in the portion of the field which Jacob bought from the sons of Hamor father of Shechem, with a hundred kesitah; and they are to the sons of Joseph for an inheritance.

33 E leazar, fiul lui Aaron, a murit, şi a fost îngropat la Ghibeat-Fineas, care fusese dat fiului său Fineas, în muntele lui Efraim

And Eleazar son of Aaron died, and they bury him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which was given to him in the hill-country of Ephraim.
