1 Î n luna a douăsprezecea, adică luna Adar, în a treisprezecea zi a lunii, ziua în care avea să se aducă la îndeplinire porunca şi hotărîrea împăratului, şi cînd vrăjmaşii Iudeilor nădăjduiseră să stăpînească peste ei, s'a întîmplat tocmai dimpotrivă, că Iudeii au stăpînit asupra vrăjmaşilor lor.

And in the twelfth month -- it the month of Adar -- on the thirteenth day of it, in which the word of the king, even his law, hath come to be done, in the day that the enemies of the Jews had hoped to rule over them, and it is turned that the Jews rule over those hating them --

2 I udeii s'au strîns în cetăţile lor, în toate ţinuturile împăratului Ahaşveroş, ca să pună mîna pe ceice căutau să -i peardă. Nimeni n'a putut să le stea împotrivă, căci frica de ei apucase pe toate popoarele!

the Jews have been assembled in their cities, in all provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to put forth a hand on those seeking their evil, and no man hath stood in their presence, for their fear hath fallen on all the peoples.

3 Ş i toţi mai marii ţinuturilor, căpeteniile oştirii, dregătorii, slujbaşii împăratului, au sprijinit pe Iudei, din pricina fricei pe care le -o însufla Mardoheu.

And all heads of the provinces, and the lieutenants, and the governors, and those doing the work that the king hath, are lifting up the Jews, for a fear of Mordecai hath fallen upon them;

4 C ăci Mardoheu era puternic în casa împăratului, şi faima lui se răspîndea în toate ţinuturile, pentrucă ajungea din ce în ce mai puternic.

for great Mordecai in the house of the king, and his fame is going into all the provinces, for the man Mordecai is going on and becoming great.

5 I udeii au ucis cu lovituri de sabie pe toţi vrăjmaşii lor, i-au omorît şi i-au prăpădit. Au făcut ce au vrut cu vrăjmaşii lor.

And the Jews smite among all their enemies -- a smiting of the sword, and slaughter, and destruction -- and do with those hating them according to their pleasure,

6 Î n capitala Susa, Iudeii au ucis şi au prăpădit cinci sute de oameni,

and in Shushan the palace have the Jews slain and destroyed five hundred men;

7 ş i au junghiat pe Parşandata, Dalfon, Aspata,

and Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,

8 P orata, Adalia, Aridata,

and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,

9 P armaşta, Arizai, Aridai, şi Vaiezata,

and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vajezatha,

10 c ei zece fii ai lui Haman, fiul lui Hamedata, vrăjmaşul Iudeilor. Dar n'au pus mîna pe averile lor.

ten sons of Haman son of Hammedatha, adversary of the Jews, they have slain, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand.

11 Î n ziua aceea, numărul celor ce fuseseră ucişi în capitala Susa a ajuns la cunoştinţa împăratului.

On that day hath come the number of the slain in Shushan the palace before the king,

12 Ş i împăratul a zis împărătesei Estera:,, Iudeii au ucis şi au prăpădit în capitala Susa cinci sute de oameni şi pe cei zece fii ai lui Haman. Ce vor fi făcut în celelalte ţinuturi ale împăratului?... Care-ţi este cererea? Ea îţi va fi împlinită. Ce mai doreşti? Vei căpăta.``

and the king saith to Esther the queen, `In Shushan the palace have the Jews slain and destroyed five hundred men, and the ten sons of Haman; in the rest of the provinces of the king what have they done? and what thy petition? and it is given to thee; and what thy request again? and it is done.'

13 E stera a răspuns:,, Dacă împăratul găseşte cu cale, să fie îngăduit Iudeilor cari sînt la Susa să facă şi mîne după porunca de azi, şi să spînzure pe lemn pe cei zece fii ai lui Haman.``

And Esther saith, `If to the king good, let it be given also to-morrow, to the Jews who in Shushan, to do according to the law of to-day; and the ten sons of Haman they hang on the tree.'

14 Ş i împăratul a poruncit să se facă aşa. Porunca a fost adusă la cunoştinţa poporului din Susa. Au spînzurat pe cei zece fii ai lui Haman.

And the king saith -- `to be done so;' and a law is given in Shushan, and the ten sons of Haman they have hanged.

15 I udeii cari se aflau în Susa s'au strîns din nou în a patrusprezecea zi a lunii Adar, şi au ucis în Susa trei sute de oameni. Dar n'au pus mîna pe averile lor.

And the Jews who in Shushan are assembled also on the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and they slay in Shushan three hundred men, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand.

16 C eilalţi Iudei din celelalte ţinuturi ale împăratului s'au strîns şi şi-au apărat viaţa. Au căpătat astfel odihnă, scăpînd de vrăjmaşii lor, şi au ucis şaptezeci şi cinci de mii din cei ce le erau vrăjmaşi. Dar n'au pus mîna pe averile lor.

And the rest of the Jews, who in the provinces of the king, have been assembled, even to stand for their life, and to rest from their enemies, and to slay among those hating them five and seventy thousand, and on the prey they have not put forth their hand;

17 A ceste lucruri s'au întîmplat în a treisprezecea zi a lunii Adar. În ziua a patrusprezecea, Iudeii s'au odihnit, şi au făcut din ea o zi de ospăţ şi de bucurie.

on the thirteenth day of the month of Adar, even to rest on the fourteenth of it, and to make it a day of banquet and of joy.

18 C ei ce se aflau la Susa, s'au strîns în ziua a treisprezecea şi a patrusprezecea, dar în ziua a cincisprezecea s'au odihnit, şi au făcut din ea o zi de ospăţ şi de bucurie.

And the Jews who in Shushan have been assembled, on the thirteenth day of it, and on the fourteenth of it, even to rest on the fifteenth of it, and to make it a day of banquet and of joy.

19 D e aceea Iudeii dela ţară, cari locuiesc în cetăţi fără ziduri, au făcut din ziua a patrusprezecea a lunii Adar o zi de bucurie, de ospăţ şi de sărbătoare, în care îşi trimet daruri unii altora.

Therefore the Jews of the villages, who are dwelling in cities of the villages, are making the fourteenth day of the month of Adar -- joy and banquet, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.

20 M ardoheu a scris aceste lucruri, şi a trimes scrisori tuturor Iudeilor din toate ţinuturile împăratului Ahaşveroş, de aproape şi din depărtare.

And Mordecai writeth these things, and sendeth letters unto all the Jews who in all provinces of the king Ahasuerus, who are near and who are far off,

21 L e poruncea să prăznuiască în fiecare an ziua a patrusprezecea şi a cincisprezecea a lunii Adar,

to establish on them, to be keeping the fourteenth day of the month of Adar, and the fifteenth day of it, in every year and year,

22 c a zile în cari căpătaseră odihnă, scăpînd de vrajmaşii lor. Le -a poruncit să prăznuiască luna în care întristarea lor se prefăcuse în bucurie şi jalea lor în zi de sărbătoare, şi să facă din aceste zile nişte zile de ospăţ şi de bucurie, cînd să-şi trimeată daruri de mîncare unii altora şi să împartă daruri celor lipsiţi.

as days on which the Jews have rested from their enemies, and the month that hath been turned to them from sorrow to joy, and from mourning to a good day, to make them days of banquet and of joy, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the needy.

23 I udeii s'au îndatorat să facă ceeace şi începuseră să facă şi ce le scrisese Mardoheu.

And the Jews have received that which they had begun to do, and that which Mordecai hath written unto them,

24 C ăci Haman, fiul lui Hamedata, Agaghitul, vrăjmaşul tuturor Iudeilor, făcuse planul să -i peardă, şi aruncase Pur, adică sorţul, ca să -i omoare şi să -i nimicească.

because Haman son of Hammedatha the Agagite, adversary of all the Jews, had devised concerning the Jews to destroy them, and had caused to fall Pur -- that the lot -- to crush them and to destroy them;

25 D ar Estera, venind înaintea împăratului, împăratul a poruncit în scris să întoarcă asupra capului lui Haman planul cel rău pe care -l făcuse împotriva Iudeilor, şi să -l spînzure pe lemn, pe el şi pe fiii lui.

and in her coming in before the king, he said with the letter, `Let his evil device that he devised against the Jews turn back upon his own head,' and they have hanged him and his sons on the tree,

26 D e aceea zilele acestea s'au numit Purim, dela numirea Pur. Potrivit cu tot cuprinsul acestei scrisori, potrivit cu cele ce văzuseră ei înşişi şi potrivit cu cele ce li se întîmplaseră,

therefore they have called these days Purim -- by the name of the lot -- therefore, because of all the words of this letter, and what they have seen concerning this, and what hath come unto them,

27 I udeii au luat pentru ei, pentru sămînţa lor, şi pentru toţi ceice se vor lipi de ei, hotărîrea şi îndatorirea neschimbăcioasă ca să prăznuiască în fiecare an aceste două zile, în felul rînduit, şi la vremea hotărîtă.

the Jews have established and received upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all those joined unto them, and it doth not pass away, to be keeping these two days according to their writing, and according to their season, in every year and year;

28 Z ilele acestea trebuiau să fie pomenite şi prăznuite din neam în neam, în fiecare familie, în fiecare ţinut şi în fiecare cetate. Şi zilele acestea Purim nu trebuiau desfiinţate niciodată din mijlocul Iudeilor, nici să se şteargă aducerea aminte de ele printre urmaşii lor.

and these days are remembered and kept in every generation and generation, family and family, province and province, and city and city, and these days of Purim do not pass away from the midst of the Jews, and their memorial is not ended from their seed.

29 Î mpărăteasa Estera, fata lui Abihail, şi Iudeul Mardoheu au scris stăruitor a doua oară pentruca să întărească scrisoarea privitoare la Purim.

And Esther the queen, daughter of Abihail, writeth, and Mordecai the Jew, with all might, to establish this second letter of Purim,

30 A u trimes scrisori tuturor Iudeilor, în cele o sută douăzeci şi şapte de ţinuturi ale împăratului Ahaşveroş. Ele cuprindeau cuvinte de pace şi de credincioşie,

and he sendeth letters unto all the Jews, unto the seven and twenty and a hundred provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus -- words of peace and truth --

31 î ntărind ţinerea acestor zile Purim, la vremea hotărîtă, cum le rînduiseră Iudeul Mardoheu şi împărăteasa Estera pentru ei, şi cum şi le rînduiseră şi pentru ei înşişi şi pentru sămînţa lor, cu prilejul postului lor şi ţipetelor lor.

to establish these days of Purim, in their seasons, as Mordecai the Jew hath established on them, and Esther the queen, and as they had established on themselves, and on their seed -- matters of the fastings, and of their cry.

32 P orunca Esterei a întărit aşezarea acestei sărbători Purim, şi lucrul acesta a fost scris în carte.

And a saying of Esther hath established these matters of Purim, and it is written in the Book.
