1 A cum, Israele, ascultă legile şi poruncile pe cari vă învăţ să le păziţi. Împliniţi-le, pentruca să trăiţi, şi să intraţi în stăpînirea ţării pe care v'o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor voştri.

`And now, Israel, hearken unto the statutes, and unto the judgments which I am teaching you to do, so that ye live, and have gone in, and possessed the land which Jehovah God of your fathers is giving to you.

2 S ă n'adăugaţi nimic la cele ce vă poruncesc eu, şi să nu scădeţi nimic din ele; ci să păziţi poruncile Domnului, Dumnezeului vostru, aşa cum vi le dau eu.

Ye do not add to the word which I am commanding you, nor diminish from it, to keep the commands of Jehovah your God which I am commanding you.

3 A ţi văzut cu ochii voştri ce a făcut Domnul cu prilejul faptei lui Baal-Peor: Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, a nimicit din mijlocul tău pe ţoti aceia cari se duseseră după Baal-Peor.

`Your eyes are seeing that which Jehovah hath done in Baal-Peor, for every man who hath gone after Baal-Peor, Jehovah thy God hath destroyed him from thy midst;

4 I ar voi, cari v'aţi alipit de Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, sînteţi toţi vii astăzi.

and ye who are cleaving to Jehovah your God, alive, all of you, to-day.

5 I ată, v'am învăţat legi şi porunci, cum mi -a poruncit Domnul, Dumnezeul meu, ca să le împliniţi în ţara pe care o veţi lua în stăpînire.

`See, I have taught you statutes and judgments, as Jehovah my God hath commanded me -- to do so, in the midst of the land whither ye are going in to possess it;

6 S ă le păziţi şi să le împliniţi; căci aceasta va fi înţelepciunea şi priceperea voastră înaintea popoarelor, cari vor auzi vorbindu-se de toate aceste legi şi vor zice:,, Acest neam mare este un popor cu totul înţelept şi priceput!``

and ye have kept and done (for it your wisdom and your understanding) before the eyes of the peoples who hear all these statutes, and they have said, Only, a people wise and understanding this great nation.

7 C are este, în adevăr, neamul acela aşa de mare încît să fi avut pe dumnezeii lui aşa de aproape cum avem noi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, ori de cîte ori Îl chemăm?

`For which the great nation that hath God near unto it, as Jehovah our God, in all we have called unto him?

8 Ş i care este neamul acela aşa de mare încît să aibă legi şi porunci aşa de drepte, cum este toată legea aceasta pe care v'o pun astăzi înainte?

and which the great nation which hath righteous statutes and judgments according to all this law which I am setting before you to-day?

9 N umai, ia seama asupra ta, şi veghează cu luare aminte asupra sufletului tău, în toate zilele vieţii tale, ca nu cumva să uiţi lucrurile pe cari ţi le-au văzut ochii, şi să-ţi iasă din inimă; fă-le cunoscut copiilor tăi şi copiilor copiilor tăi.

`Only, take heed to thyself, and watch thy soul exceedingly, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they turn aside from thy heart, all days of thy life; and thou hast made them known to thy sons, and to thy sons' sons.

10 A du-ţi aminte de ziua cînd te-ai înfăţişat înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, la Horeb, cînd Domnul mi -a zis:,, Strînge poporul la Mine! Căci vreau să -i fac să audă cuvintele Mele, ca să înveţe să se teamă de Mine tot timpul cît vor trăi pe pămînt; şi să înveţe şi pe copiii lor să le păzească.``

`The day when thou hast stood before Jehovah thy God in Horeb -- in Jehovah's saying unto me, Assemble to Me the people, and I cause them to hear My words, so that they learn to fear Me all the days that they are alive on the ground, and their sons they teach; --

11 V oi v'aţi apropiat şi aţi stătut la poalele muntelui. Muntele era aprins, şi flacările se ridicau pînă în inima cerului. Era întunerec, nori şi negură deasă.

and ye draw near and stand under the mountain, and the mountain is burning with fire unto the heart of the heavens -- darkness, cloud, yea, thick darkness:

12 Ş i Domnul v'a vorbit din mijlocul focului; voi aţi auzit sunetul cuvintelor Lui, dar n'aţi văzut nici un chip, ci aţi auzit doar un glas.

`And Jehovah speaketh unto you out of the midst of the fire; a voice of words ye are hearing and a similitude ye are not seeing, only a voice;

13 E l Şi -a vestit legămîntul Său, pe care v'a poruncit să -l păziţi, cele zece porunci; şi le -a scris pe două table de piatră.

and He declareth to you His covenant, which He hath commanded you to do, the Ten Matters, and He writeth them upon two tables of stone.

14 Î n vremea aceea, Domnul mi -a poruncit să vă învăţ legi şi porunci, ca să le împliniţi în ţara pe care o veţi lua în stăpînire.

`And me hath Jehovah commanded at that time to teach you statutes and judgments, for your doing them in the land whither ye are passing over to possess it;

15 F iindcă n'aţi văzut nici un chip în ziua cînd v'a vorbit Domnul din mijlocul focului, la Horeb, vegheaţi cu luare aminte asupra sufletelor voastre,

and ye have been very watchful of your souls, for ye have not seen any similitude in the day of Jehovah's speaking unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire,

16 c a nu cumva să vă stricaţi, şi să vă faceţi un chip cioplit, sau o înfăţişare a vreunui idol, sau chipul vreunui om sau chipul vreunei femei,

lest ye do corruptly, and have made to you a graven image, a similitude of any figure, a form of male or female --

17 s au chipul vreunui dobitoc de pe pămînt, sau chipul vreunei păsări care sboară în ceruri,

a form of any beast which in the earth -- a form of any winged bird which flieth in the heavens --

18 s au chipul vreunui dobitoc care se tîrăşte pe pămînt, sau chipul vreunui peşte care trăieşte în apele dedesubtul pămîntului.

a form of any creeping thing on the ground -- a form of any fish which in the waters under the earth;

19 V eghează asupra sufletului tău, ca nu cumva, ridicîndu-ţi ochii spre cer, şi văzînd soarele, luna şi stelele, toată oştirea cerurilor, să fii tîrît să te închini înaintea lor şi să le slujeşti: căci acestea sînt lucruri pe cari Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, le -a făcut şi le -a împărţit ca să slujească tuturor popoarelor, subt cerul întreg.

`And lest thou lift up thine eyes towards the heavens, and hast seen the sun, and the moon, and the stars, all the host of the heavens, and thou hast been forced, and hast bowed thyself to them, and served them, which Jehovah thy God hath apportioned to all the peoples under the whole heavens.

20 D ar pe voi, Domnul v'a luat, şi v'a scos din cuptorul de fer al Egiptului, ca să -I fiţi un popor pus de o parte, cum sînteţi azi.

`And you hath Jehovah taken, and He is bringing you out from the iron furnace, from Egypt, to be to Him for a people -- an inheritance, as this day.

21 Ş i Domnul S'a mîniat pe mine, din pricina voastră: şi a jurat că eu să nu trec Iordanul, şi să nu intru în ţara aceea bună pe care ţi -o dă ca moştenire Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.

`And Jehovah hath shewed himself wroth with me because of your words, and sweareth to my not passing over the Jordan, and to my not going in unto the good land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- an inheritance;

22 E u voi muri deci în ţara aceasta de aici, nu voi trece Iordanul; dar voi îl veţi trece, şi veţi stăpîni ţara aceea bună.

for I am dying in this land; I am not passing over the Jordan, and ye are passing over, and have possessed this good land.

23 V egheaţi asupra voastră, ca să nu daţi uitării legămîntul pe care l -a încheiat cu voi Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, şi să nu faceţi vreun chip cioplit, nici vreo înfăţişare oarecare, pe care ţi -a oprit Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, s'o faci.

`Take heed to yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of Jehovah your God, which He hath made with you, and have made to yourselves a graven image, a similitude of anything which Jehovah thy God hath charged thee:

24 C ăci Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, este un foc mistuitor, un Dumnezeu gelos.

for Jehovah thy God is a fire consuming -- a zealous God.

25 C înd vei avea copii, şi copii din copiii tăi, şi vei fi de multă vreme în ţară, dacă vă veţi strica, dacă vă veţi face chipuri cioplite, înfăţişeri ale vreunui lucru, dacă veţi face ce este rău înaintea Domnului Dumnezeului vostru, ca să -L mîniaţi, -

`When thou begettest sons and sons' sons, and ye have become old in the land, and have done corruptly, and have made a graven image, a similitude of anything, and have done the evil thing in the eyes of Jehovah, to provoke Him to anger: --

26 i au astăzi martor împotriva voastră cerul şi pămîntul, -că veţi peri de o moarte repede din ţara pe care o veţi lua în stăpînire dincolo de Iordan, şi nu veţi avea zile multe în ea, căci veţi fi nimiciţi de tot.

I have caused to testify against you this day the heavens and the earth, that ye do perish utterly hastily from off the land whither ye are passing over the Jordan to possess it; ye do not prolong days upon it, but are utterly destroyed;

27 D omnul vă va împrăştia printre popoare, şi nu veţi rămînea decît un mic număr în mijlocul neamurilor unde vă va duce Domnul.

and Jehovah hath scattered you among the peoples, and ye have been left few in number among the nations, whither Jehovah leadeth you,

28 Ş i acolo veţi sluji unor dumnezei, cari sînt o lucrare făcută de mîni omeneşti, de lemn şi de piatră, cari nu pot nici să vadă, nici să audă, nici să mănînce, nici să miroasă.

and ye have served there gods, work of man's hands, wood and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

29 Ş i dacă de acolo vei căuta pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, Îl vei găsi dacă -L vei căuta din toată inima ta şi din tot sufletul tău.

`And -- ye have sought from thence Jehovah thy God, and hast found, when thou seekest Him with all thy heart, and with all thy soul,

30 Ş i după ce ţi se vor întîmpla toate aceste lucruri în strîmtorarea ta, în zilele de pe urmă, te vei întoarce la Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, şi vei asculta glasul Lui;

in distress to thee, and all these things have found thee, in the latter end of the days, and thou hast turned back unto Jehovah thy God, and hast hearkened to His voice;

31 c ăci Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, este un Dumnezeu plin de îndurare, care nu te va părăsi şi nu te va nimici; El nu va uita legămîntul pe care l -a încheiat prin jurămînt cu părinţii tăi.

for a merciful God Jehovah thy God; He doth not fail thee, nor destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers, which He hath sworn to them.

32 Î ntreabă vremurile străvechi, cari au fost înaintea ta, din ziua cînd a făcut Dumnezeu pe om pe pămînt, şi cercetează dela o margine a cerului la cealaltă: a fost vreodată vreo întîmplare aşa de mare, şi s'a auzit vreodată aşa ceva?

`For, ask, I pray thee, at the former days which have been before thee, from the day that God prepared man on the earth, and from the end of the heavens even unto the end of the heavens, whether there hath been as this great thing -- or hath been heard like it?

33 A fost vreodată vreun popor care să fi auzit glasul lui Dumnezeu vorbind din mijlocul focului, cum l-ai auzit tu, şi să fi rămas viu?

Hath a people heard the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as thou hast heard, thou -- and doth live?

34 A fost vreodată vreun dumnezeu care să fi căutat să ia un neam din mijlocul altui neam, prin încercări, semne, minuni şi lupte, cu mînă tare şi braţ întins, şi cu minuni înfricoşate, cum a făcut cu voi Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, în Egipt şi subt ochii voştri?

Or hath God tried to go in to take to Himself, a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a strong hand, and by a stretched-out arm, and by great terrors -- according to all that Jehovah your God hath done to you, in Egypt, before your eyes?

35 N umai tu ai fost martor la aceste lucruri, ca să cunoşti că numai Domnul este Dumnezeu şi că nu este alt Dumnezeu afară de El.

Thou, thou hast been shewn, to know that Jehovah He God; there is none else besides Him.

36 D in cer, te -a făcut să auzi glasul Lui, ca să te înveţe; şi, pe pămînt, te -a făcut să vezi focul Lui cel mare, şi ai auzit cuvintele Lui din mijlocul focului.

`From the heavens He hath caused thee to hear His voice, to instruct thee, and on earth He hath shewed thee His great fire, and His words thou hast heard out of the midst of the fire.

37 E l a iubit pe părinţii tăi, şi de aceea a ales sămînţa lor după ei; El însuş te -a scos din Egipt, prin puterea Lui cea mare.

`And because that He hath loved thy fathers, He doth also fix on their seed after them, and doth bring thee out, in His presence, by His great power, from Egypt:

38 E l a izgonit dinaintea ta neamuri mai mari la număr şi mai tari decît tine, ca să te ducă în ţara lor, şi să ţi -o dea în stăpînire, cum vezi azi.

to dispossess nations greater and stronger than thou, from thy presence, to bring thee in to give to thee their land -- an inheritance, as this day.

39 S ă ştii dar în ziua aceasta, şi pune-ţi în inimă că numai Domnul este Dumnezeu, sus în cer şi jos pe pămînt, şi că nu este alt Dumnezeu afară de El.

`And thou hast known to-day, and hast turned back unto thy heart, that Jehovah He God, in the heavens above, and on the earth beneath -- there is none else;

40 P ăzeşte dar legile şi poruncile Lui, pe cari ţi le dau azi, ca să fii fericit, tu şi copiii tăi după tine, şi să ai zile multe în ţara pe care ţi -o dă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, pe vecie.``

and thou hast kept His statutes and His commands which I am commanding thee to-day, so that it is well to thee, and to thy sons after thee, and so that thou prolongest days on the ground which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- all the days.'

41 A tunci Moise a ales trei cetăţi dincoace de Iordan, la răsărit,

Then Moses separateth three cities beyond the Jordan, towards the sun-rising,

42 p entruca să slujească de scăpare ucigaşului care ar fi omorît fără voie pe aproapele lui, fără să -i fi fost vrăjmaş mai dinainte, şi să-şi poată scăpa astfel viaţa, fugînd într'una din aceste cetăţi.

for the fleeing thither of the man-slayer, who slayeth his neighbour unknowingly, and he is not hating him heretofore, and he hath fled unto one of these cities, and he hath lived:

43 A ceste cetăţi erau: Beţer, în pustie, în cîmpie, la Rubeniţi; Ramot, în Galaad, la Gadiţi, şi Golan, în Basan, la Manasiţi.

Bezer, in the wilderness, in the land of the plain, of the Reubenite; and Ramoth, in Gilead, of the Gadite; and Golan, in Bashan, of the Manassahite.

44 A ceasta este legea pe care a dat -o Moise copiilor lui Israel.

And this the law which Moses hath set before the sons of Israel;

45 I ată învăţăturile, legile şi poruncile pe cari le -a dat Moise copiilor lui Israel, după ieşirea lor din Egipt.

these the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which Moses hath spoken unto the sons of Israel, in their coming out of Egypt,

46 A ceasta era dincoace de Iordan, în vale, faţă în faţă cu Bet-Peor, în ţara lui Sihon, împăratul Amoriţilor, care locuia la Hesbon, şi care a fost bătut de Moise şi copiii lui Israel, după ieşirea lor din Egipt.

beyond the Jordan, in the valley over-against Beth-Peor, in the land of Sihon, king of the Amorite, who is dwelling in Heshbon, whom Moses and the sons of Israel have smitten, in their coming out of Egypt,

47 E i au pus mîna pe ţara lui şi pe ţara lui Og, împăratul Basanului. Aceşti doi împăraţi ai Amoriţilor erau dincoace de Iordan, la răsărit.

and they possess his land, and the land of Og king of Bashan, two kings of the Amorite who beyond the Jordan, the sun-rising;

48 Ţ inutul lor se întindea dela Aroer, care este pe malurile pîrîului Arnon, pînă la muntele Sionului care este Hermonul,

from Aroer, which by the edge of the brook Arnon, even unto mount Sion, which Hermon --

49 ş i cuprindea toată cîmpia de dincoace de Iordan, la răsărit, pînă la marea cîmpiei, supt poalele muntelui Pisga.

and all the plain beyond the Jordan eastward, even unto the sea of the plain, under the springs of Pisgah.
