1 D upă aceea, fiii lui Moab şi fiii lui Amon, şi cu ei nişte Moaniţi, au pornit cu război împotriva lui Iosafat.

And it cometh to pass after this, the sons of Moab have come in, and the sons of Ammon, and with them of the peoples, against Jehoshaphat to battle.

2 A u venit şi au dat de ştire lui Iosafat, zicînd:,, O mare mulţime înaintează împotiva ta de dincolo de mare, din Siria, şi sînt la Haţaţon-Tamar, adică En-Ghedi.``

And they come in and declare to Jehoshaphat, saying, `Come against thee hath a great multitude from beyond the sea, from Aram, and lo, they in Hazezon-Tamar -- it En-Gedi.'

3 Î n spaima sa, Iosafat şi -a îndreptat faţa să caute pe Domnul, şi a vestit un post pentru tot Iuda.

And Jehoshaphat feareth, and setteth his face to seek to Jehovah, and proclaimeth a fast over all Judah;

4 I uda s'a adunat să cheme pe Domnul, şi au venit din toate cetăţile lui Iuda să caute pe Domnul.

and Judah is gathered to inquire of Jehovah; also, from all the cities of Judah they have come in to seek Jehovah.

5 I osafat a venit în mijlocul adunării lui Iuda şi a Ierusalimului, în Casa Domnului, înaintea curţii celei noi.

And Jehoshaphat standeth in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem, in the house of Jehovah, at the front of the new court,

6 Ş i a zis:,, Doamne, Dumnezeul părinţilor noştri, nu eşti Tu Dumnezeu în ceruri şi nu stăpîneşti Tu peste toate împărăţiile neamurilor? Oare n'ai Tu în mînă tăria şi puterea, aşa că nimeni nu Ţi se poate împotrivi?

and saith, `O Jehovah, God of our fathers, art not Thou -- God in the heavens? yea, Thou art ruling over all kingdoms of the nations, and in Thy hand power and might, and there is none with Thee to station himself.

7 O are n'ai izgonit Tu, Dumnezeul nostru, pe locuitorii ţării acesteia dinaintea poporului Tău Israel, şi n'ai dat -o Tu pentru totdeauna de moştenire seminţei lui Avraam care Te iubea?

`Art not Thou our God? Thou hast dispossessed the inhabitants of this land from before Thy people Israel, and dost give it to the seed of Abraham Thy friend to the age,

8 E i au locuit -o şi Ţi-au zidit în ea un locaş sfînt pentru Numele Tău, zicînd:

and they dwell in it, and build to Thee in it a sanctuary for Thy name, saying,

9 D acă va veni peste noi vreo nenorocire, sabia, judecata, ciuma sau foametea, ne vom înfăţişa înaintea casei acesteia şi înaintea Ta, căci Numele Tău este în casa aceasta; vom striga către Tine din mijlocul strîmtorării noastre, şi Tu ne vei asculta şi ne vei mîntui!

If evil doth come upon us -- sword, judgment, and pestilence, and famine -- we stand before this house, and before Thee, for Thy name in this house, and cry unto Thee out of our distress, and Thou dost hear and save.

10 A cum, iată, fiii lui Amon, şi ai lui Moab şi cei din muntele Seir, la cari n'ai îngăduit lui Israel să intre, cînd venea din ţara Egiptului, -căci s'a abătut de la ei şi nu i -a nimicit, -

`And now, lo, sons of Ammon, and Moab, and mount Seir, whom Thou didst not grant to Israel to go in against in their coming out of the land of Egypt, for they turned aside from off them and destroyed them not,

11 i ată -i cum ne răsplătesc acum, venind să ne izgonească din moştenirea Ta, pe care ne-ai dat -o în stăpînire!

and lo, they are recompensing to us -- to come in to drive us out of Thy possession, that Thou hast caused us to possess.

12 O , Dumnezeul nostru, nu -i vei judeca Tu pe ei? Căci noi sîntem fără putere înaintea acestei mari mulţimi, care înaintează împotriva noastră, şi nu ştim ce să facem, dar ochii noştri sînt îndreptaţi spre Tine!``

`O our God, dost Thou not execute judgment upon them? for there is no power in us before this great multitude that hath come against us, and we know not what we do, but on Thee our eyes.'

13 T ot Iuda stătea în picioare înaintea Domnului, cu pruncii, nevestele şi fiii lor.

And all Judah are standing before Jehovah, also their infants, their wives, and their sons.

14 A tunci Duhul Domnului a venit în mijlocul adunării peste Iahaziel, fiul lui Zaharia, fiul lui Benaia, fiul lui Ieiel, fiul lui Matania, Levitul, dintre fiii lui Asaf.

And upon Jahaziel, son of Zechariah, son of Benaiah, son of Jeiel, son of Mattaniah, the Levite, of the sons of Asaph, hath the Spirit of Jehovah been, in the midst of the assembly,

15 Ş i Iahaziel a zis:,, Ascultaţi, tot Iuda şi locuitorii din Ierusalim, şi tu, împărate Iosafat! Aşa vă vorbeşte Domnul:,, Nu vă temeţi şi nu vă spăimîntaţi dinaintea acestei mari mulţimi, căci nu voi veţi lupta, ci Dumnezeu.

and he saith, `Attend, all Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, and O king Jehoshaphat, Thus said Jehovah to you, Ye fear not, nor are afraid of the face of this great multitude, for not for you the battle, but for God.

16 M îne pogorîţi-vă împotriva lor. Ei se vor sui pe dealul Ţiţ, şi -i veţi găsi la capătul văii, în faţa pustiei Ieruel.

To-morrow, go ye down against them, lo, they are coming up by the ascent of Ziz, and ye have found them in the end of the valley, the front of the wilderness of Jeruel.

17 N u veţi avea de luptat în lupta aceasta: aşezaţi-vă, staţi acolo, şi veţi vedea izbăvirea pe care v'o va da Domnul. Iuda şi Ierusalim, nu vă temeţi şi nu vă spăimîntaţi; mîne, ieşiţi-le înainte, şi Domnul va fi cu voi!``

Not for you to fight in this; station yourselves, stand, and see the salvation of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem -- be not afraid nor fear ye -- to-morrow go out before them, and Jehovah with you.'

18 I osafat s'a plecat cu faţa la pămînt, şi tot Iuda şi locuitorii Ierusalimului s'au aruncat înaintea Domnului să se închine înaintea Lui.

And Jehoshaphat boweth -- face to the earth -- and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem have fallen before Jehovah, to bow themselves to Jehovah.

19 L eviţii dintre fiii Chehatiţilor şi dintre fiii Coreiţilor s'au sculat şi au lăudat cu glas tare şi puternic pe Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel.

And the Levites, of the sons of the Kohathites, and of the sons of the Korhites, rise to give praise to Jehovah, God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.

20 A doua zi, au pornit disdedimineaţă spre pustia Tecoa. La plecarea lor, Iosafat a venit şi a zis:,, Ascultaţi-mă, Iuda şi locuitorii Ierusalimului! Încredeţi-vă în Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, şi veţi fi întăriţi; încredeţi-vă în proorocii Lui, şi veţi izbuti.``

And they rise early in the morning, and go out to the wilderness of Tekoa, and in their going out Jehoshaphat hath stood and saith, `Hear me, O Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem, remain stedfast in Jehovah your God, and be stedfast; remain stedfast in His prophets, and prosper.'

21 A poi în învoire cu poporul, a numit nişte cîntăreţi cari, îmbrăcaţi cu podoabe sfinte, şi mergînd înaintea oştirii, lăudau pe Domnul şi ziceau:,, Lăudaţi pe Domnul, căci îndurarea Lui ţine în veac!``

And he taketh counsel with the people, and appointeth singers to Jehovah, and those giving praise to the honour of holiness, in the going out before the armed, and saying, `Give ye thanks to Jehovah, for to the age His kindness.'

22 Î n clipa cînd au început cîntările şi laudele. Domnul a pus o pîndă împotriva fiilor lui Amon şi ai lui Moab şi împotriva celor din muntele Seir, cari veniseră împotriva lui Iuda. Şi au fost bătuţi.

And at the time they have begun with singing and praise, Jehovah hath put ambushments against the sons of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, who are coming in to Judah, and they are smitten,

23 F iii lui Amon şi ai lui Moab s'au aruncat asupra locuitorilor din muntele Seir ca să -i nimicească cu desăvîrşire şi să -i prăpădească. Şi, după ce au isprăvit cu locuitorii din Seir, s'au ajutat unii pe alţii să se nimicească.

and the sons of Ammon stand up, and Moab, against the inhabitants of mount Seir, to devote and to destroy, and at their finishing with the inhabitants of Seir, they helped, a man against his neighbour, to destroy.

24 C înd a ajuns Iuda pe înălţimea de unde se zăreşte pustia, s'au uitat înspre mulţime, şi iată că ei erau nişte trupuri moarte întinse pe pămînt, şi nimeni nu scăpase.

And Judah hath come in unto the watch-tower, to the wilderness, and they look unto the multitude, and lo, they carcases fallen to the earth, and there is none escaped,

25 I osafat şi poporul său s'au dus să ia prăzile; au găsit printre trupuri multe bogăţii şi lucruri scumpe, şi au luat atît de multe că n'au putut să le ducă pe toate. Trei zile au prădat, căci era multă pradă.

and Jehoshaphat cometh in, and his people, to seize their spoil, and they find among them, in abundance, both goods and carcases, and desirable vessels, and they take spoil to themselves without prohibition, and they are three days seizing the spoil, for it abundant.

26 A patra zi, s'au strîns în valea Beraca (Binecuvîntare), unde au binecuvîntat pe Domnul; de aceea au numit locul acesta valea Beraca, nume care i -a rămas pînă în ziua de azi.

And on the fourth day they have been assembled at the valley of Blessing, for there they blessed Jehovah: therefore they have called the name of that place, `Valley of Blessing,' unto this day.

27 T oţi oamenii din Iuda şi din Ierusalim, în frunte cu Iosafat, au plecat veseli şi s'au întors la Ierusalim, căci Domnul îi umpluse de bucurie, izbăvindu -i de vrăjmaşii lor.

And they turn back, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat at their head, to go back unto Jerusalem with joy, for Jehovah hath made them rejoice over their enemies.

28 A u intrat în Ierusalim şi în Casa Domnului, în sunete de alăute, şi de arfe şi trîmbiţe.

And they come in to Jerusalem with psalteries, and with harps, and with trumpets, unto the house of Jehovah.

29 G roaza Domnului a apucat toate împărăţiile celorlalte ţări, cînd au auzit că Domnul luptase împotriva vrăjmaşilor lui Israel.

And there is a fear of God on all kingdoms of the lands in their hearing that Jehovah hath fought with the enemies of Israel,

30 Ş i împărăţia lui Iosafat a fost liniştită, şi Dumnezeul lui i -a dat pace de jur împrejur.

and the kingdom of Jehoshaphat is quiet, and his God giveth rest to him round about.

31 I osafat a domnit peste Iuda. Avea treizeci şi cinci de ani cînd a ajuns împărat, şi a domnit douăzeci şi cinci de ani la Ierusalim. Mamă-sa se chema Azuba, fata lui Şilhi.

And Jehoshaphat reigneth over Judah, a son of thirty and five years in his reigning, and twenty and five years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, and the name of his mother Azubah daughter of Shilhi.

32 E l a mers pe calea tatălui său Asa, şi nu s'a abătut deloc, făcînd ce este bine înaintea Domnului.

And he walketh in the way of his father Asa, and hath not turned aside from it, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah.

33 N umai că înălţimile n'au fost îndepărtate, şi poporul tot n'avea inima strîns lipită de Dumnezeul părinţilor săi.

Only, the high places have not turned aside, and still the people have not prepared their heart for the God of their fathers.

34 C elelalte fapte ale lui Iosafat, cele dintîi şi cele de pe urmă, sînt scrise în istoria lui Iehu, fiul lui Hanani, care este cuprinsă în cartea împăraţilor lui Israel.

And the rest of the matters of Jehoshaphat, the first and the last, lo, they are written among the matters of Jehu son of Hanani, who hath been mentioned on the book of the kings of Israel.

35 D upă aceea, Iosafat, împăratul lui Iuda, s'a unit cu împăratul lui Israel, Ahazia, a cărui purtare era nelegiuită.

And after this hath Jehoshaphat king of Judah joined himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, (he did wickedly in doing),

36 S 'a unit cu el ca să zidească nişte corăbii, cari să meargă la Tarsis, şi au făcut corăbii la Eţion-Gheber.

and he joineth him with himself to make ships to go to Tarshish, and they make ships in Ezion-Geber,

37 A tunci Eliezer, fiul lui Dodava, din Mareşa, a proorocit împotriva lui Iosafat, şi a zis:,, Pentrucă te-ai unit cu Ahazia, Domnul îţi nimiceşte lucrarea.`` Şi corăbiile au fost sfărîmate, şi n'au putut să se ducă la Tarsis.

and prophesy doth Eliezer son of Dodavah, of Mareshah, against Jehoshaphat, saying, `For thy joining thyself with Ahaziah, Jehovah hath broken up thy works;' and the ships are broken, and have not retained to go unto Tarshish.
