1 Î n anul următor, pe vremea cînd porneau împăraţii la război, Ioab a pornit, în fruntea unei puternice oştiri, să pustiască ţara fiilor lui Amon şi să împresoare Raba. Dar David a rămas la Ierusalim. Ioab a bătut Raba şi a nimicit -o.

And it cometh to pass, at the time of the turn of the year -- at the time of the going out of the messengers -- that Joab leadeth out the force of the host, and destroyeth the land of the sons of Ammon, and cometh in and beseigeth Rabbah -- David is abiding in Jerusalem -- and Joab smiteth Rabbah, and breaketh it down.

2 D avid a luat cununa de pe capul împăratului ei, şi a găsit -o în greutate de un talant de aur: era împodobită cu petre scumpe. Au pus -o pe capul lui David, care a luat o mare pradă din cetate.

And David taketh the crown of their king from off his head, and findeth it weight a talent of gold, and in it a precious stone, and it is on the head of David: and spoil of the city he hath brought out very much,

3 A scos afară pe locuitori, şi i -a tăiat în bucăţi cu ferestraie, cu securi, şi cu topoare; tot aşa a făcut tuturor cetăţilor fiilor lui Amon. David s'a întors la Ierusalim cu tot poporul.

and the people who in it he hath brought out, and setteth to the saw, and to cutting instruments of iron, and to axes; and thus doth David to all cities of the sons of Ammon, and David turneth back, and all the people, to Jerusalem.

4 D upă aceea, a avut loc o bătălie la Ghezer cu Filistenii. Atunci Sibecai, Huşatitul, a ucis pe Sipai, unul din copiii lui Rafa. Şi Filistenii au fost smeriţi.

And it cometh to pass, after this, that there remaineth war in Gezer with the Philistines, then hath Sibbechai the Hushathite smitten Sippai, of the children of the giant, and they are humbled.

5 A mai fost o bătălie cu Filistenii. Şi Elhanan, fiul lui Iair, a ucis pe fratele lui Goliat, Lahmi din Gat, care avea o suliţă al cărei mîner era ca un sul de ţesut.

And there is again war with the Philistines, and Elhanan son of Jair smiteth Lahmi, brother of Goliath the Gittite, the wood of whose spear like a beam of weavers.

6 A mai fost o bătălie la Gat. Acolo a fost un om de statură înaltă, care avea şase degete la fiecare mînă şi la fiecare picior, douăzeci şi patru de toate, şi care se trăgea şi el din Rafa.

And there is again war in Gath, and there is a man of measure, and his fingers and his toes six and six, twenty and four, and also, he hath been born to the giant.

7 E l a batjocorit pe Israel; şi Ionatan, fiul lui Şimea, fratele lui David, l -a ucis.

And he reproacheth Israel, and smite him doth Jonathan son of Shimea, brother of David.

8 O amenii aceştia erau dintre copiii lui Rafa la Gat. Ei au perit ucişi de mîna lui David şi de mîna slujitorilor lui.

These were born to the giant in Gath, and they fall by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
