1 A na s'a rugat, şi a zis:,, Mi se bucură inima în Domnul, Puterea mea... a fost înălţată de Domnul; Mi s'a deschis larg gura împotriva vrăjmaşilor mei, Căci mă bucur...... de ajutorul Tău.

And Hannah prayeth, and saith: `My heart hath exulted in Jehovah, My horn hath been high in Jehovah, My mouth hath been large over mine enemies, For I have rejoiced in Thy salvation.

2 N imeni nu este sfînt ca Domnul; Nu este alt Dumnezeu decît Tine; Nu este stîncă aşa ca Dumnezeul nostru.

There is none holy like Jehovah, For there is none save Thee, And there is no rock like our God.

3 N u mai vorbiţi cu atîta îngîmfare, Să nu vă mai iasă din gură cuvinte de mîndrie; Căci Domnul este un Dumnezeu care ştie totul, Şi toate faptele sînt cîntărite de El.

Ye multiply not -- ye speak haughtily -- The old saying goeth out from your mouth, For a God of knowledge Jehovah, And by Him actions are weighed.

4 A rcul celor puternici s'a sfărîmat, Şi cei slabi sînt încinşi cu putere.

Bows of the mighty are broken, And the stumbling have girded on strength.

5 C ei ce erau sătui, se închiriază pentru pîne, Şi ceice erau flămînzi se odihnesc; Chiar cea stearpă naşte de şapte ori, Şi cea care... avea mulţi copii stă lîncezită.

The satiated for bread hired themselves, And the hungry have ceased. While the barren hath borne seven, And she abounding with sons hath languished.

6 D omnul omoară şi învie, El pogoară în locuinţa morţilor şi El scoate de acolo.

Jehovah putteth to death, and keepeth alive, He bringeth down to Sheol, and bringeth up.

7 D omnul sărăceşte şi El îmbogăţeşte, El smereşte şi El înalţă

Jehovah dispossesseth, and He maketh rich, He maketh low, yea, He maketh high.

8 E l ridică din pulbere pe cel sărac, Ridică din gunoi pe cel lipsit. Ca să -i pună să şadă alături cu cei mari. Şi le dă de moştenire un scaun de domnie îmbrăcat cu slavă; Căci ai Domnului sînt stîlpii... pămîntului, Şi pe ei a aşezat El lumea.

He raiseth from the dust the poor, From a dunghill He lifteth up the needy, To cause to sit with nobles, Yea, a throne of honour He doth cause them to inherit, For to Jehovah the fixtures of earth, And He setteth on them the habitable world.

9 E l va păzi paşii prea iubiţilor Lui, Dar cei răi vor fi nimiciţi în întunerec; Căci omul nu va birui prin putere.

The feet of His saints He keepeth, And the wicked in darkness are silent, For not by power doth man become mighty.

10 V răjmaşii Domnului vor tremura, Din înălţimea cerului El Îşi va arunca tunetul asupra lor; Domnul... va judeca marginile pămîntului. El va da Împăratului Său putere, Şi El va înălţa tăria...... Unsului Lui``.

Jehovah -- broken down are His adversaries, Against them in the heavens He thundereth: Jehovah judgeth the ends of earth, And giveth strength to His king, And exalteth the horn of His anointed.'

11 E lcana s'a dus acasă, la Rama, şi copilul a rămas în slujba Domnului, înaintea preotului Eli.

And Elkanah goeth to Ramath, unto his house, and the youth hath been serving Jehovah, the presence of Eli the priest;

12 F iii lui Eli erau nişte oameni răi. Nu cunoşteau pe Domnul.

and the sons of Eli sons of worthlessness, they have not known Jehovah.

13 Ş i iată care era felul de purtare al acestor preoţi faţă de popor. Cînd aducea cineva o jertfă, venea sluga preotului în clipa cînd se ferbea carnea. Ţinînd în mînă o furculiţă cu trei coarne,

And the custom of the priests with the people: any man sacrificing a sacrifice -- then hath the servant of the priest come in when the flesh is boiling, and the hook of three teeth in his hand,

14 o vîra în cazan, în căldare, în tigaie sau în oală; şi tot ce apuca cu furculiţa, lua preotul pentru el. Aşa făceau ei tuturor acelora din Israel cari veneau la Silo.

and hath struck into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the hook bringeth up doth the priest take for himself; thus they do to all Israel who are coming in, there, in Shiloh.

15 C hiar înainte de a arde grăsimea, venea sluga preotului şi zicea celui ce aducea jertfa:,, Dă pentru preot carnea de fript; el nu va lua dela tine carne fiartă, ci vrea carne crudă``.

Also before they make perfume with the fat -- then hath the priest's servant come in, and said to the man who is sacrificing, `Give flesh to roast for the priest, and he doth not take of thee flesh boiled, but raw;'

16 Ş i dacă omul zicea:,, După ce se va arde grăsimea, vei lua ce-ţi va plăcea``, sluga răspundea:,, Nu! dă mi acum, căci altfel iau cu sila``.

and the man saith unto him, `Let them surely make a perfume (as to-day) with the fat, then take to thee as thy soul desireth;' and he hath said to him, `Surely now thou dost give; and if not -- I have taken by strength.'

17 T inerii aceştia se făceau vinovaţi înaintea Domnului de un foarte mare păcat, pentrucă nesocoteau darurile Domnului.

And the sin of the young men is very great the presence of Jehovah, for the men have despised the offering of Jehovah.

18 S amuel făcea slujba înaintea Domnului; şi copilul acesta era îmbrăcat cu un efod de in.

And Samuel is ministering the presence of Jehovah, a youth girt an ephod of linen;

19 M amă-sa îi făcea pe fiecare an o mantie mică, şi i -o aducea cînd se suia cu bărbatul ei ca să aducă jertfa din fiecare an.

and a small upper coat doth his mother make to him, and she hath brought it up to him from time to time, in her coming up with her husband to sacrifice the sacrifice of the time.

20 E li a binecuvîntat pe Elcana şi pe nevastă-sa, şi a a zis:,, Să dea Domnul să ai copii din femeia aceasta, cari să înlocuiască pe acela pe care l -a împrumutat ea Domnului!`` Şi s'au întors acasă.

And Eli blessed Elkanah, and his wife, and said, `Jehovah doth appoint for thee seed of this woman, for the petition which she asked for Jehovah;' and they have gone to their place.

21 C înd a cercetat Domnul pe Ana, ea a rămas însărcinată, şi a născut trei fii şi două fiice. Şi tînărul Samuel creştea înaintea Domnului.

When Jehovah hath looked after Hannah, then she conceiveth and beareth three sons and two daughters; and the youth Samuel groweth up with Jehovah.

22 E li era foarte bătrîn, şi a aflat cum se purtau fiii lui cu tot Israelul; a aflat şi că se culcau cu femeile cari slujeau afară la uşa cortului întîlnirii.

And Eli very old, and hath heard all that his sons do to all Israel, and how that they lie with the women who are assembling the opening of the tent of meeting,

23 E l le -a zis:,, Pentru ce faceţi astfel de lucruri? Căci aflu dela tot poporul despre faptele voastre rele.

and he saith to them, `Why do ye things like these? for I am hearing of your evil words from all the people -- these!

24 N u, copii, ce aud spunîndu-se despre voi, nu este bine; voi faceţi pe poporul Domnului să păcătuiască.

Nay, my sons; for the report which I am hearing is not good causing the people of Jehovah to transgress. --

25 D acă un om păcătuieşte împotriva altui om, îl va judeca Dumnezeu; dar dacă păcătuieşte împotriva Domnului, cine se va ruga pentru el?`` Totuş ei n'au ascultat de glasul tatălui lor, căci Domnul voia să -i omoare.

If a man sin against a man, then hath God judged him; but if against Jehovah a man sin, who doth pray for him?' and they hearken not to the voice of their father, though Jehovah hath delighted to put them to death.

26 T înărul Samuel creştea mereu, şi era plăcut Domnului şi oamenilor.

And the youth Samuel is going on and growing up, and good both with Jehovah, and also with men.

27 U n om al lui Dumnezeu a venit la Eli, şi i -a zis:,, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul:, Nu M'am descoperit Eu casei tatălui tău, cînd erau în Egipt, în casa lui Faraon?

And there cometh a man of God unto Eli, and saith unto him, `Thus said Jehovah, Was I really revealed unto the house of thy father in their being in Egypt, before Pharaoh's house,

28 E u l-am ales dintre toate seminţiile lui Israel, ca să fie în slujba Mea, în preoţie, ca să se suie la altarul Meu, să ardă tămîia, şi să poarte efodul înaintea Mea; şi am dat casei tatălui tău toate jertfele mistuite de foc şi aduse de copiii lui Israel.

even to choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to Me for a priest, to go up on Mine altar, to make a perfume, to bear an ephod before Me, and I give to the house of thy father all the fire-offerings of the sons of Israel?

29 P entruce călcaţi voi în picioare jertfele Mele şi darurile Mele, cari am poruncit să se facă în locaşul Meu? Şi cum se face că tu cinsteşti pe fiii tăi mai mult decît pe Mine, ca să vă îngrăşaţi din cele dintîi roade luate din toate darurile poporului Meu Israel?``

Why do ye kick at My sacrifice, and at Mine offering which I commanded My habitation, and dost honour thy sons above Me, to make yourselves fat from the first part of every offering of Israel, of My people?

30 D e aceea, iată ce zice Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel:,, Spusesem că şi casa ta şi casa tatălui tău au să umble totdeauna înaintea Mea``. Şi acum, zice Domnul, departe de Mine lucrul acesta! Căci voi cinsti... pe cine Mă cinsteşte, dar ceice Mă dispreţuiesc,...... vor fi dispreţuiţi.

`Therefore -- the affirmation of Jehovah, God of Israel -- I certainly said, Thy house and the house of thy father, do walk up and down before Me to the age; and now -- the affirmation of Jehovah -- Far be it from Me! for he who is honouring Me, I honour, and those despising Me, are lightly esteemed.

31 I ată că vine vremea cînd voi tăia braţul tău şi braţul casei tatălui tău, aşa încît nu va mai fi niciun bătrîn în casa ta.

`Lo, days coming, and I have cut off thine arm, and the arm of the house of thy father, that an old man is not in thy house;

32 V ei vedea un protivnic al tău în locaşul Meu, în timp ce Israel va fi copleşit de bunătăţi de Domnul; şi nu va mai fi niciodată niciun bătrîn în casa ta.

and thou hast beheld an adversary habitation, in all that He doth good with Israel, and there is not an old man in thy house all the days.

33 V oi lăsa să rămînă la altarul Meu numai unul dintr'ai tăi, ca să ţi se topească ochii de durere şi să ţi se întristeze sufletul; dar toţi ceilalţi din casa ta vor muri în floarea vîrstei.

`And the man I cut not off of thine from Mine altar, to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thy soul; and all the increase of thy house do die men;

34 Ş i iată semnul celor ce se vor întîmpla celor doi fii ai tăi Hofni şi Fineas: amîndoi vor muri într'o zi.

and this to thee the sign that cometh unto thy two sons, unto Hophni and Phinehas -- in one day they die both of them;

35 E u Îmi voi pune un preot credincios, care va lucra după inima Mea şi după sufletul Meu; îi voi zidi o casă stătătoare, şi va umbla totdeauna înaintea Unsului... Meu.

and I have raised up for Me a stedfast priest; as in My heart and in My soul he doth do; and I have built for him a stedfast house, and he hath walked up and down before Mine anointed all the days;

36 Ş i oricine va mai rămînea din casa ta va veni să se arunce cu faţa la pămînt înaintea lui, pentru un ban de argint şi pentru o bucată de pîne, şi va zice:,, Pune-mă, te rog, în una din slujbele preoţiei, ca să am o bucată de pîne să mănînc``.

and it hath been, every one who is left in thy house doth come in to bow himself to him, for a wage of silver, and a cake of bread, and hath said, Admit me, I pray thee, unto one of the priest's offices, to eat a morsel of bread.'
