1 V oi înşivă ştiţi, fraţilor, că venirea noastră la voi n'a fost zadarnică.

For yourselves have known, brethren, our entrance in unto you, that it did not become vain,

2 D upăce am suferit şi am fost batjocoriţi în Filipi, cum ştiţi, am venit plini de încredere în Dumnezeul nostru, să vă vestim Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu în mijlocul multor lupte.

but having both suffered before, and having been injuriously treated (as ye have known) in Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the good news of God in much conflict,

3 C ăci propovăduirea noastră nu se întemeiază nici pe rătăcire, nici pe necurăţie, nici pe viclenie.

for our exhortation not out of deceit, nor out of uncleanness, nor in guile,

4 C i, fiindcă Dumnezeu ne -a găsit vrednici să ne încredinţeze Evanghelia, căutăm să vorbim aşa ca să placem nu oamenilor, ci lui Dumnezeu, care ne cercetează inima.

but as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the good news, so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God, who is proving our hearts,

5 Î n adevăr, cum bine ştiţi, niciodată n'am întrebuinţat vorbe măgulitoare, nici haina lăcomiei: martor este Dumnezeu.

for at no time did we come with speech of flattery, (as ye have known,) nor in a pretext for covetousness, (God witness!)

6 N 'am căutat slavă dela oameni: nici dela voi, nici dela alţii, deşi, ca apostoli ai lui Hristos, am fi putut să cerem cinste.

nor seeking of men glory, neither from you nor from others, being able to be burdensome, as Christ's apostles.

7 D impotrivă, ne-am arătat blînzi în mijlocul vostru, ca o doică ce-şi creşte cu drag copiii.

But we became gentle in your midst, as a nurse may cherish her own children,

8 A stfel, în dragostea noastră fierbinte pentru voi, eram gata să vă dăm nu numai Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu, dar chiar şi viaţa noastră, atît de scumpi ne ajunseserăţi.

so being desirous of you, we are well-pleased to impart to you not only the good news of God, but also our own souls, because beloved ye have become to us,

9 V ă aduceţi aminte, fraţilor, de osteneala şi munca noastră. Cum lucram zi şi noapte, ca să nu fim sarcină niciunuia din voi, şi vă propovăduiam Evanghelia lui Dumnezeu.

for ye remember, brethren, our labour and travail, for, night and day working not to be a burden upon any of you, we did preach to you the good news of God;

10 V oi sînteţi martori, şi Dumnezeu deasemenea, că am avut o purtare sfîntă, dreaptă şi fără prihană faţă de voi, cari credeţi.

ye witnesses -- God also -- how kindly and righteously, and blamelessly to you who believe we became,

11 Ş tiţi iarăş că am fost pentru fiecare din voi, ca un tată cu copiii lui: vă sfătuiam, vă mîngîiam şi vă adeveream,

even as ye have known, how each one of you, as a father his own children, we are exhorting you, and comforting, and testifying,

12 s ă vă purtaţi într'un chip vrednic de Dumnezeu, care vă cheamă la Împărăţia şi slava Sa.

for your walking worthily of God, who is calling you to His own reign and glory.

13 D eaceea mulţămim fără încetare lui Dumnezeu că, atunci cînd aţi primit Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu, auzit dela noi, l-aţi primit nu ca pe cuvîntul oamenilor, ci, aşa cum şi este în adevăr, ca pe Cuvîntul lui Dumnezeu, care lucrează şi în voi cari credeţi.

Because of this also, we -- we do give thanks to God continually, that, having received the word of hearing from us of God, ye accepted, not the word of man, but as it is truly, the word of God, who also doth work in you who believe;

14 C ăci, fraţilor, voi aţi călcat pe urmele Bisericilor lui Dumnezeu, cari sînt în Hristos Isus, în Iudea; pentrucă şi voi aţi suferit din partea celor de un neam cu voi aceleaşi rele, pe cari le-au suferit ele din partea Iudeilor.

for ye became imitators, brethren, of the assemblies of God that are in Judea in Christ Jesus, because such things ye suffered, even ye, from your own countrymen, as also they from the Jews,

15 I udeii aceştia au omorît pe Domnul Isus şi pe prooroci, pe noi ne-au prigonit, nu plac lui Dumnezeu, şi sînt vrăjmaşi tuturor oamenilor,

who did both put to death the Lord Jesus and their own prophets, and did persecute us, and God they are not pleasing, and to all men contrary,

16 c ăci ne opresc să vorbim Neamurilor, ca să fie mîntuite. Astfel, ei totdeauna pun vîrf păcatelor lor. Dar, la urmă, i -a ajuns mînia lui Dumnezeu!

forbidding us to speak to the nations that they might be saved, to fill up their sins always, but the anger did come upon them -- to the end!

17 N oi, fraţilor, după ce am fost despărţiţi cîtăva vreme de voi, cu faţa dar nu cu inima, am avut cu atît mai mult dorinţa să vă vedem.

And we, brethren, having been taken from you for the space of an hour -- in presence, not in heart -- did hasten the more abundantly to see your face in much desire,

18 A stfel, odată, şi chiar de două ori, am voit (eu, Pavel, cel puţin) să venim la voi; dar ne -a împedecat Satana.

wherefore we wished to come unto you, (I indeed Paul,) both once and again, and the Adversary did hinder us;

19 C ăci cine este, în adevăr, nădejdea, sau bucuria, sau cununa noastră de slavă? Nu sînteţi voi, înaintea Domnului nostru Isus Hristos, la venirea Lui?

for what our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? are not even ye before our Lord Jesus Christ in his presence?

20 D a, voi sînteţi slava şi bucuria noastră.

for ye are our glory and joy.
