1 I sus, plin de Duhul Sfînt, S'a întors dela Iordan, şi a fost dus de Duhul în pustie,

And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, turned back from the Jordan, and was brought in the Spirit to the wilderness,

2 u nde a fost ispitit de diavolul timp de patruzeci de zile. N'a mîncat nimic în zilele acelea; şi, după ce au trecut acele zile, a flămînzit.

forty days being tempted by the Devil, and he did not eat anything in those days, and they having been ended, he afterward hungered,

3 D iavolul I -a zis:,, Dacă eşti Fiul lui Dumnezeu, porunceşte pietrei acesteia să se facă pîne.``

and the Devil said to him, `If Son thou art of God, speak to this stone that it may become bread.'

4 I sus i -a răspuns:,, Este scris: Omul nu va trăi numai cu pîne, ci cu orice cuvînt care iese din gura lui Dumnezeu.``

And Jesus answered him, saying, `It hath been written, that, not on bread only shall man live, but on every saying of God.'

5 D iavolul L -a suit pe un munte înalt, i -a arătat într'o clipă, toate împărăţiile pămîntului,

And the Devil having brought him up to an high mountain, shewed to him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,

6 ş i I -a zis:,,Ţie Îţi voi da toată stăpînirea şi slava acestor împărăţii; căci mie îmi este dată, şi o dau oricui voiesc.

and the Devil said to him, `To thee I will give all this authority, and their glory, because to me it hath been delivered, and to whomsoever I will, I do give it;

7 D acă dar, Te vei închina înaintea mea, toată va fi a Ta.``

thou, then, if thou mayest bow before me -- all shall be thine.'

8 D rept răspuns, Isus i -a zis:,,Înapoia Mea, Satano! Este scris: Să te închini Domnului, Dumnezeului tău, şi numai Lui să -I slujeşti.``

And Jesus answering him said, `Get thee behind me, Adversary, for it hath been written, Thou shalt bow before the Lord thy God, and Him only thou shalt serve.'

9 D iavolul L -a dus apoi în Ierusalim, L -a aşezat pe straşina acoperişului Templului, şi I -a zis:,, Dacă eşti Fiul lui Dumnezeu, aruncă-Te jos de aici;``

And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, `If the Son thou art of God, cast thyself down hence,

10 c ăci este scris:,, El va porunci îngerilor Lui să Te păzească;``

for it hath been written -- To His messengers He will give charge concerning thee, to guard over thee,

11 ş i:,, Ei Te vor lua pe mîni, ca nu cumva să Te loveşti cu piciorul de vreo piatră.``

and -- On hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou mayest dash against a stone thy foot.'

12 I sus i -a răspuns:,, S'a spus: Să nu ispiteşti pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău.``

And Jesus answering said to him -- `It hath been said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.'

13 D upă ce L -a ispitit în toate felurile, diavolul a plecat dela El, pînă la o vreme.

And having ended all temptation, the Devil departed from him till a convenient season.

14 I sus, plin de puterea Duhului, S'a întors în Galilea, şi I s'a dus vestea în tot ţinutul deprimprejur.

And Jesus turned back in the power of the Spirit to Galilee, and a fame went forth through all the region round about concerning him,

15 E l învăţa pe oameni în sinagogile lor, şi era slăvit de toţi.

and he was teaching in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

16 A venit în Nazaret, unde fusese crescut; şi, după obiceiul Său, în ziua Sabatului, a intrat în sinagogă. S'a sculat să citească,

And he came to Nazareth, where he hath been brought up, and he went in, according to his custom, on the sabbath-day, to the synagogue, and stood up to read;

17 ş i I s'a dat cartea proorocului Isaia. Cînd a deschis -o, a dat peste locul unde era scris:

and there was given over to him a roll of Isaiah the prophet, and having unfolded the roll, he found the place where it hath been written:

18 D uhul Domnului este peste Mine, pentrucă M'a uns să vestesc săracilor Evanghelia; M'a trimes să tămăduiesc pe cei cu inima zdrobită, să propovăduiesc robilor de război slobozirea, şi orbilor căpătarea vederii; să dau drumul celor apăsaţi,

`The Spirit of the Lord upon me, Because He did anoint me; To proclaim good news to the poor, Sent me to heal the broken of heart, To proclaim to captives deliverance, And to blind receiving of sight, To send away the bruised with deliverance,

19 ş i să vestesc anul de îndurare al Domnului.``

To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.'

20 Î n urmă, a închis cartea, a dat -o înapoi îngrijitorului, şi a şezut jos. Toţi ceice se aflau în sinagogă, aveau privirile pironite spre El.

And having folded the roll, having given back to the officer, he sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing on him.

21 A tunci a început să le spună:,, Astăzi s'au împlinit cuvintele acestea din Scriptură, pe cari le-aţi auzit.``

And he began to say unto them -- `To-day hath this writing been fulfilled in your ears;'

22 Ş i toţi Îl vorbeau de bine, se mirau de cuvintele pline de har, cari ieşiau din gura Lui, şi ziceau:,, Oare nu este acesta feciorul lui Iosif?``

and all were bearing testimony to him, and were wondering at the gracious words that are coming forth out of his mouth, and they said, `Is not this the son of Joseph?'

23 I sus le -a zis:,, Fără îndoială, Îmi veţi spune zicala aceea:, Doftore, vindecă-te pe tine însuţi`; şi Îmi veţi zice:, Fă şi aici, în patria Ta, tot ce am auzit că ai făcut în Capernaum.``

And he said unto them, `Certainly ye will say to me this simile, Physician, heal thyself; as great things as we heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country;'

24 D ar``, a adăugat El,, adevărat vă spun că, niciun prooroc nu este primit bine în patria lui.

and he said, `Verily I say to you -- No prophet is accepted in his own country;

25 B a încă, adevărat vă spun că, pe vremea lui Ilie, cînd a fost încuiat cerul să nu dea ploaie trei ani şi şase luni, şi cînd a venit o foamete mare peste toată ţara, erau multe văduve în Israel;

and of a truth I say to you, Many widows were in the days of Elijah, in Israel, when the heaven was shut for three years and six months, when great famine came on all the land,

26 ş i totuş Ilie n'a fost trimes la niciuna din ele, afară de o văduvă din Sarepta Sidonului.

and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but -- to Sarepta of Sidon, unto a woman, a widow;

27 Ş i mulţi leproşi erau în Israel, pe vremea proorocului Elisei; şi totuş niciunul din ei n'a fost curăţit, afară de Naaman, Sirianul.``

and many lepers were in the time of Elisha the prophet, in Israel, and none of them was cleansed, but -- Naaman the Syrian.'

28 T oţi cei din sinagogă, cînd au auzit aceste lucruri, s'au umplut de mînie.

And all in the synagogue were filled with wrath, hearing these things,

29 Ş i s'au sculat, L-au scos afară din cetate, şi L-au dus pînă în sprînceana muntelui, pe care era zidită cetatea lor, ca să -L arunce jos în prăpastie.

and having risen, they put him forth without the city, and brought him unto the brow of the hill on which their city had been built -- to cast him down headlong,

30 D ar Isus a trecut prin mijlocul lor, şi a plecat de acolo.

and he, having gone through the midst of them, went away.

31 S 'a pogorît în Capernaum, cetate din Galilea, şi acolo învăţa pe oameni în ziua Sabatului.

And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbaths,

32 E i erau uimiţi de învăţătura Lui, pentrucă vorbea cu putere.

and they were astonished at his teaching, because his word was with authority.

33 Î n sinagogă se afla un om, care avea un duh de drac necurat, şi care a strigat cu glas tare:

And in the synagogue was a man, having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a great voice,

34 A h! Ce avem noi a face cu Tine, Isuse din Nazaret? Ai venit să ne prăpădeşti? Te ştiu cine eşti: Sfîntul lui Dumnezeu.``

saying, `Away, what -- to us and to thee, Jesus, O Nazarene? thou didst come to destroy us; I have known thee who thou art -- the Holy One of God.'

35 I sus l -a certat, şi i -a zis:,, Taci, şi ieşi afară din omul acesta!`` Şi dracul, dupăce l -a trîntit jos, în mijlocul adunării, a ieşit afară din el, fără să -i facă vreun rău.

And Jesus did rebuke him, saying, `Be silenced, and come forth out of him;' and the demon having cast him into the midst, came forth from him, having hurt him nought;

36 T oţi au fost cuprinşi de spaimă, şi ziceau unii către alţii: Ce înseamnă lucrul acesta? El porunceşte cu stăpînire şi cu putere duhurilor necurate, şi ele ies afară!``

and amazement came upon all, and they were speaking together, with one another, saying, `What this word, that with authority and power he doth command the unclean spirits, and they come forth?'

37 Ş i I s'a dus vestea în toate împrejurimile.

and there was going forth a fame concerning him to every place of the region round about.

38 D upăce a ieşit din sinagogă, a intrat în casa lui Simon. Soacra lui Simon era prinsă de friguri mari, şi L-au rugat pentru ea.

And having risen out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon, and the mother-in-law of Simon was pressed with a great fever, and they did ask him about her,

39 E l S'a plecat spre ea, a certat frigurile, şi au lăsat -o frigurile. Ea s'a sculat îndată, şi a început să le slujească.

and having stood over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her, and presently, having risen, she was ministering to them.

40 L a asfinţitul soarelui, toţi cei ce aveau bolnavi atinşi de felurite boale, îi aduceau la El. El Îşi punea mînile peste fiecare din ei, şi -i vindeca.

And at the setting of the sun, all, as many as had any ailing with manifold sicknesses, brought them unto him, and he on each one of them hands having put, did heal them.

41 D in mulţi ieşeau şi draci, cari strigau şi ziceau:,, Tu eşti Hristosul, Fiul lui Dumnezeu.`` Dar El îi mustra, şi nu -i lăsa să vorbească, pentrucă ştiau că El este Hristosul.

And demons also were coming forth from many, crying out and saying -- `Thou art the Christ, the Son of God;' and rebuking, he did not suffer them to speak, because they knew him to be the Christ.

42 C înd s'a crăpat de ziuă, Isus a ieşit şi S'a dus într'un loc pustiu. Noroadele au început să -L caute în toate părţile, şi au ajuns pînă la El: voiau să -L oprească să nu plece dela ei.

And day having come, having gone forth, he went on to a desert place, and the multitudes were seeking him, and they came unto him, and were staying him -- not to go on from them,

43 D ar El le -a zis:,, Trebuie să vestesc Evanghelia Împărăţiei lui Dumnezeu şi în alte cetăţi; fiindcă pentru aceasta am fost trimes.``

and he said unto them -- `Also to the other cities it behoveth me to proclaim good news of the reign of God, because for this I have been sent;'

44 Ş i propovăduia în sinagogile Galileii.

and he was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.
