and the Devil said to him, `If Son thou art of God, speak to this stone that it may become bread.'
4 J esus said to him, “It is written, ‘Man is not to live by bread alone.’”
And Jesus answered him, saying, `It hath been written, that, not on bread only shall man live, but on every saying of God.'

7 I f You will worship me, all this will be Yours.”
thou, then, if thou mayest bow before me -- all shall be thine.'
8 J esus said to the devil, “Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You must worship the Lord your God. You must obey Him only.’”
And Jesus answering him said, `Get thee behind me, Adversary, for it hath been written, Thou shalt bow before the Lord thy God, and Him only thou shalt serve.'
9 T hen the devil took Jesus up to Jerusalem. He had Jesus stand on the highest part of the house of God. The devil said to Jesus, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here.

10 F or it is written, ‘He has told His angels to care for You and to keep You.
for it hath been written -- To His messengers He will give charge concerning thee, to guard over thee,
11 I n their hands they will hold You up. Then Your foot will not hit against a stone.’”
and -- On hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou mayest dash against a stone thy foot.'

16 J esus came to Nazareth where He had grown up. As He had done before, He went into the Jewish place of worship on the Day of Rest. Then He stood up to read.
And he came to Nazareth, where he hath been brought up, and he went in, according to his custom, on the sabbath-day, to the synagogue, and stood up to read;
17 S omeone handed Him the book of the early preacher Isaiah. He opened it and found the place where it was written,
and there was given over to him a roll of Isaiah the prophet, and having unfolded the roll, he found the place where it hath been written:
18 “ The Spirit of the Lord is on Me. He has put His hand on Me to preach the Good News to poor people. He has sent Me to heal those with a sad heart. He has sent Me to tell those who are being held that they can go free. He has sent Me to make the blind to see and to free those who are held because of trouble.
`The Spirit of the Lord upon me, Because He did anoint me; To proclaim good news to the poor, Sent me to heal the broken of heart, To proclaim to captives deliverance, And to blind receiving of sight, To send away the bruised with deliverance,
19 H e sent Me to tell of the time when men can receive favor with the Lord.”
To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.'
20 J esus closed the book. Then He gave it back to the leader and sat down. All those in the Jewish place of worship kept their eyes on Him.
And having folded the roll, having given back to the officer, he sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue were gazing on him.
21 T hen He began to say to them, “The Holy Writings you have just heard have been completed today.”
And he began to say unto them -- `To-day hath this writing been fulfilled in your ears;'
22 T hey all spoke well of Jesus and agreed with the words He spoke. They said, “Is not this the son of Joseph?”
and all were bearing testimony to him, and were wondering at the gracious words that are coming forth out of his mouth, and they said, `Is not this the son of Joseph?'
23 H e said to them, “I wonder if you will tell this old saying to Me, ‘Doctor, heal Yourself. What You did in the city of Capernaum, do in Your own country!’”
And he said unto them, `Certainly ye will say to me this simile, Physician, heal thyself; as great things as we heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country;'
24 H e said, “A man who speaks for God is not respected in his own country.
and he said, `Verily I say to you -- No prophet is accepted in his own country;
25 I t is true that there were many women whose husbands had died in the Jewish land when Elijah lived. For three and a half years there was no rain and there was very little food in the land.
and of a truth I say to you, Many widows were in the days of Elijah, in Israel, when the heaven was shut for three years and six months, when great famine came on all the land,
26 E lijah was sent to none of them, but he was sent to a woman in the city of Zarephath in the land of Sidon. This woman’s husband had died.
and unto none of them was Elijah sent, but -- to Sarepta of Sidon, unto a woman, a widow;
27 T here were many people in the Jewish land who had a bad skin disease when the early preacher Elisha lived. None of them was healed. But Naaman from the country of Syria was healed.”
and many lepers were in the time of Elisha the prophet, in Israel, and none of them was cleansed, but -- Naaman the Syrian.'
28 A ll those in the Jewish place of worship were angry when they heard His words.
And all in the synagogue were filled with wrath, hearing these things,

31 J esus went down to Capernaum in Galilee. He taught them on the Days of Rest.
And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbaths,
32 T he people were surprised and wondered about His teaching. His words had power.
and they were astonished at his teaching, because his word was with authority.
33 A man in the Jewish place of worship had a demon. He cried with a loud voice,
And in the synagogue was a man, having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a great voice,
34 “ What do You want of us, Jesus of Nazareth? I know Who You are. You are the Holy One of God.”
saying, `Away, what -- to us and to thee, Jesus, O Nazarene? thou didst come to destroy us; I have known thee who thou art -- the Holy One of God.'
35 J esus spoke sharp words to the demon and said, “Do not talk! Come out of him!” When the demon had thrown the man down, he came out without hurting the man.
And Jesus did rebuke him, saying, `Be silenced, and come forth out of him;' and the demon having cast him into the midst, came forth from him, having hurt him nought;
36 T he people were all surprised. They asked each other, “What kind of word is this? He speaks to the demons with power and they come out!”
and amazement came upon all, and they were speaking together, with one another, saying, `What this word, that with authority and power he doth command the unclean spirits, and they come forth?'
37 T he news about Jesus went through all the country. Peter’s Mother-in-Law Healed
and there was going forth a fame concerning him to every place of the region round about.
38 J esus went away from the Jewish place of worship and went into Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed, very sick. They asked Jesus to help her.
And having risen out of the synagogue, he entered into the house of Simon, and the mother-in-law of Simon was pressed with a great fever, and they did ask him about her,
39 H e stood by her and told the disease to leave. It went from her. At once she got up and cared for them. Jesus Heals in Galilee
and having stood over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her, and presently, having risen, she was ministering to them.
40 A s the sun went down, the people took all that were sick with many kinds of diseases to Jesus. He put His hands on all of them and they were healed.
And at the setting of the sun, all, as many as had any ailing with manifold sicknesses, brought them unto him, and he on each one of them hands having put, did heal them.
41 A lso demons came out of many people. The demons cried out and said, “You are Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus spoke strong words to them and would not let them speak. They knew He was the Christ. Jesus Keeps On Preaching in Galilee

42 I n the morning He went out to a desert. The people looked for Him. When they found Him, they were trying to keep Him from going away from them.
And day having come, having gone forth, he went on to a desert place, and the multitudes were seeking him, and they came unto him, and were staying him -- not to go on from them,
43 H e said to them, “I must preach about the holy nation of God in other cities also. This is why I was sent.”
and he said unto them -- `Also to the other cities it behoveth me to proclaim good news of the reign of God, because for this I have been sent;'
