1 T hen Jonah prayed to the Lord his God while in the stomach of the fish,

And Jonah prayeth unto Jehovah his God from the bowels of the fish.

2 s aying, “I called out to the Lord because of my trouble, and He answered me. I cried for help from the place of the dead, and You heard my voice.

And he saith: I called, because of my distress, to Jehovah, And He doth answer me, From the belly of sheol I have cried, Thou hast heard my voice.

3 Y ou threw me into the deep waters, to the very bottom of the sea. A flood was all around me and all Your waves passed over me.

When Thou dost cast me the deep, Into the heart of the seas, Then the flood doth compass me, All Thy breakers and Thy billows have passed over me.

4 T hen I said, ‘I have been sent away from Your eyes. But I will look again toward Your holy house.’

And I -- I said: I have been cast out from before Thine eyes, (Yet I add to look unto Thy holy temple!)

5 W aters closed in over me. The sea was all around me. Weeds were around my head.

Compassed me have waters unto the soul, The deep doth compass me, The weed is bound to my head.

6 I went down to the roots of the mountains. The walls of the earth were around me forever. But You have brought me up from the grave, O Lord my God.

To the cuttings of mountains I have come down, The earth, her bars behind me to the age. And Thou bringest up from the pit my life, O Jehovah my God.

7 W hile I was losing all my strength, I remembered the Lord. And my prayer came to You, into Your holy house.

In the feebleness within me of my soul Jehovah I have remembered, And come in unto Thee doth my prayer, Unto Thy holy temple.

8 T hose who worship false gods have given up their faith in You.

Those observing lying vanities their own mercy forsake.

9 B ut I will give gifts in worship to You with a thankful voice. I will give You what I have promised. The Lord is the One Who saves.”

And I -- with a voice of thanksgiving -- I sacrifice to Thee, That which I have vowed I complete, Salvation of Jehovah.

10 T hen the Lord spoke to the fish, and it spit Jonah out onto the dry land.

And Jehovah saith to the fish, and it vomiteth out Jonah on the dry land.
