1 T hen Moses and the leaders of Israel said to the people, “Keep all the Laws which I tell you today.
`And Moses -- the elders of Israel also -- commandeth the people, saying, Keep all the command which I am commanding you to-day;
2 O n the day you cross the Jordan to the land the Lord your God gives you, set up large stones and cover them with plaster.
and it hath been, in the day that ye pass over the Jordan unto the land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee, that thou hast raised up for thee great stones, and plaistered them with plaister,
3 W rite on them all the words of this Law when you cross the river and go into the land the Lord your God gives you. It is a land flowing with milk and honey, as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you.
and written on them all the words of this law in thy passing over, so that thou goest in unto the land which Jehovah thy God is giving to thee -- a land flowing with milk and honey, as Jehovah, God of thy fathers, hath spoken to thee.
4 W hen you cross the Jordan, set up these stones on Mount Ebal and cover them with plaster, as I tell you today.
`And it hath been, in your passing over the Jordan, ye raise up these stones which I am commanding you to-day, in mount Ebal, and thou hast plaistered them with plaister,
5 B uild an altar of stones there to the Lord your God. Do not work on them with an iron tool.
and built there an altar to Jehovah thy God, an altar of stones, thou dost not wave over them iron.
6 A nd build the altar of the Lord your God with stones that are not cut. Then give a burnt gift on it to the Lord your God.
Of complete stones thou buildest the altar of Jehovah thy God, and hast caused to ascend on it burnt-offerings to Jehovah thy God,
7 G ive peace gifts and eat there. And be full of joy before the Lord your God.
and sacrificed peace-offerings, and eaten there, and rejoiced before Jehovah thy God,
8 W rite all the words of this Law on the stones. Make it easy to read.” What Happens to Those Who Do Not Obey
and written on the stones all the words of this law, well engraved.'
9 T hen Moses and the Levite religious leaders said to all Israel, “Be quiet and listen, O Israel! This day you have become the people of the Lord your God.
And Moses speaketh -- the priests, the Levites, also -- unto all Israel, saying, `Keep silent, and hear, O Israel, this day thou hast become a people to Jehovah thy God;
10 S o obey the Lord your God. Keep all of His Laws which I tell you today.”
and thou hast hearkened to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and done His commands, and His statutes, which I am commanding thee to-day.'
11 M oses told the people that same day,
And Moses commandeth the people on that day, saying,
12 “ Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, Joseph and Benjamin will stand on Mount Gerizim when you cross the Jordan. They will pray that good will come to the people.
`These do stand, to bless the people, on mount Gerizzim, in your passing over the Jordan: Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Joseph, and Benjamin.
13 A nd Reuben, Gad, Asher, Zebulun, Dan and Naphtali will stand on Mount Ebal to tell of the curses.
And these do stand, for the reviling, on mount Ebal: Reuben, Gad, and Asher, and Zebulun, Dan, and Naphtali.
14 T he Levites will say with a loud voice to all the people of Israel:
`And the Levites have answered and said unto every man of Israel -- a loud voice:
15 ‘ Cursed is every man who makes a god or something to look like a god, the work of the hands of the able workman, and sets it up in secret. It is hated by the Lord.’ Then all the people will answer, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed the man who maketh a graven and molten image, the abomination of Jehovah, work of the hands of an artificer, and hath put in a secret place, -- and all the people have answered and said, Amen.
16 ‘ Cursed is the one who puts his father or mother to shame.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed He who is making light of his father and his mother, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
17 ‘ Cursed is the man who moves his neighbor’s land-mark.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is removing his neighbour's border, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
18 ‘ Cursed is the one who leads a blind person on the road the wrong way.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is causing the blind to err in the way, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
19 ‘ Cursed is the one who is not fair to a stranger, a child whose parents have died, and the woman whose husband has died.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is turning aside the judgment of fatherless, sojourner, and widow, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
20 ‘ Cursed is the man who lies with his father’s wife because he has taken off the clothes of her who belongs to his father.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is lying with his father's wife, for he hath uncovered his father's skirt, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
21 ‘ Cursed is the man who lies with any animal.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is lying with any beast, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
22 ‘ Cursed is the man who lies with his sister, the daughter of his father or mother.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is lying with his sister, daughter of his father, or daughter of his mother, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
23 ‘ Cursed is the man who lies with his mother-in-law.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is lying with his mother-in-law, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
24 ‘ Cursed is the one who hits his neighbor in secret.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is smiting his neighbour in secret, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
25 ‘ Cursed is the one who receives pay to kill a person who is not guilty.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who is taking a bribe to smite a person, innocent blood, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
26 ‘ Cursed is the one who does not obey the words of this Law.’ And all the people will say, ‘Let it be so.’
`Cursed he who doth not establish the words of this law, to do them, -- and all the people have said, Amen.
