1 I n the beginning God made from nothing the heavens and the earth.

In the beginning of God's preparing the heavens and the earth --

2 T he earth was an empty waste and darkness was over the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was moving over the top of the waters.

the earth hath existed waste and void, and darkness on the face of the deep, and the Spirit of God fluttering on the face of the waters,

3 T hen God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

and God saith, `Let light be;' and light is.

4 G od saw that the light was good. He divided the light from the darkness.

And God seeth the light that good, and God separateth between the light and the darkness,

5 T hen God called the light day, and He called the darkness night. There was evening and there was morning, one day.

and God calleth to the light `Day,' and to the darkness He hath called `Night;' and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day one.

6 T hen God said, “Let there be an open space between the waters. Let it divide waters from waters.”

And God saith, `Let an expanse be in the midst of the waters, and let it be separating between waters and waters.'

7 G od made the open space, and divided the waters under the open space from the waters above the open space. And it was so.

And God maketh the expanse, and it separateth between the waters which under the expanse, and the waters which above the expanse: and it is so.

8 T hen God called the open space Heaven. There was evening and there was morning, the second day.

And God calleth to the expanse `Heavens;' and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day second.

9 T hen God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered into one place. Let the dry land be seen.” And it was so.

And God saith, `Let the waters under the heavens be collected unto one place, and let the dry land be seen:' and it is so.

10 T hen God called the dry land Earth. He called the gathering of the waters Seas. And God saw that it was good.

And God calleth to the dry land `Earth,' and to the collection of the waters He hath called `Seas;' and God seeth that good.

11 T hen God said, “Let plants grow from the earth, plants that have seeds. Let fruit trees grow on the earth that bring their kind of fruit with their own seeds.” And it was so.

And God saith, `Let the earth yield tender grass, herb sowing seed, fruit-tree (whose seed in itself) making fruit after its kind, on the earth:' and it is so.

12 P lants grew out of the earth, giving their own kind of seeds. Trees grew with their fruit, and their kind of seeds. And God saw that it was good.

And the earth bringeth forth tender grass, herb sowing seed after its kind, and tree making fruit (whose seed in itself) after its kind; and God seeth that good;

13 T here was evening and there was morning, the third day.

and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day third.

14 T hen God said, “Let there be lights in the open space of the heavens to divide day from night. Let them tell the days and years and times of the year.

And God saith, `Let luminaries be in the expanse of the heavens, to make a separation between the day and the night, then they have been for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years,

15 L et them be lights in the open space of the heavens to give light on the earth.” And it was so.

and they have been for luminaries in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth:' and it is so.

16 T hen God made the two great lights, the brighter light to rule the day, and the smaller light to rule the night. He made the stars also.

And God maketh the two great luminaries, the great luminary for the rule of the day, and the small luminary -- and the stars -- for the rule of the night;

17 G od put them in the open space of the heavens to give light on the earth,

and God giveth them in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth,

18 t o rule the day and the night. He divided the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.

and to rule over day and over night, and to make a separation between the light and the darkness; and God seeth that good;

19 T here was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.

and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day fourth.

20 T hen God said, “Let the waters be full of living things. Let birds fly above the earth in the open space of the heavens.”

And God saith, `Let the waters teem with the teeming living creature, and fowl let fly on the earth on the face of the expanse of the heavens.'

21 G od made the big animals that live in the sea, and every living thing that moves through the waters by its kind, and every winged bird after its kind. And God saw that it was good.

And God prepareth the great monsters, and every living creature that is creeping, which the waters have teemed with, after their kind, and every fowl with wing, after its kind, and God seeth that good.

22 G od wanted good to come to them, saying, “Give birth to many. Grow in number. Fill the waters in the seas. Let birds grow in number on the earth.”

And God blesseth them, saying, `Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and the fowl let multiply in the earth:'

23 T here was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day fifth.

24 T hen God said, “Let the earth bring into being living things after their kind: Cattle and things that move upon the ground, and wild animals of the earth after their kind.” And it was so.

And God saith, `Let the earth bring forth the living creature after its kind, cattle and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after its kind:' and it is so.

25 T hen God made the wild animals of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every thing that moves upon the ground after its kind. And God saw that it was good.

And God maketh the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing of the ground after its kind, and God seeth that good.

26 T hen God said, “Let Us make man like Us and let him be head over the fish of the sea, and over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every thing that moves on the ground.”

And God saith, `Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth.'

27 A nd God made man in His own likeness. In the likeness of God He made him. He made both male and female.

And God prepareth the man in His image; in the image of God He prepared him, a male and a female He prepared them.

28 A nd God wanted good to come to them, saying, “Give birth to many. Grow in number. Fill the earth and rule over it. Rule over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

And God blesseth them, and God saith to them, `Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it, and rule over fish of the sea, and over fowl of the heavens, and over every living thing that is creeping upon the earth.'

29 T hen God said, “See, I have given you every plant that gives seeds that is on the earth, and every tree that has fruit that gives seeds. They will be food for you.

And God saith, `Lo, I have given to you every herb sowing seed, which upon the face of all the earth, and every tree in which the fruit of a tree sowing seed, to you it is for food;

30 I have given every green plant for food to every animal of the earth, and to every bird of the sky, and to every thing that moves on the earth that has life.” And it was so.

and to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the heavens, and to every creeping thing on the earth, in which breath of life, every green herb for food:' and it is so.

31 G od saw all that He had made and it was very good. There was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

And God seeth all that He hath done, and lo, very good; and there is an evening, and there is a morning -- day the sixth.
