2 E sau took his wives from the women of Canaan: Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Oholibamah the daughter of Anah and granddaughter of Zibeon the Hivite,

Esau hath taken his wives from the daughters of Canaan: Adah daughter of Elon the Hittite, and Aholibamah daughter of Anah, daughter of Zibeon the Hivite,

3 a nd Ishmael’s daughter Basemath, the sister of Nebaioth.

and Bashemath daughter of Ishmael, sister of Nebajoth.

4 A dah gave birth to Esau’s son Eliphaz. Basemath gave birth to Reuel.

And Adah beareth to Esau, Eliphaz; and Bashemath hath born Reuel;

5 A nd Oholibamah gave birth to Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These are the sons who were born to Esau in the land of Canaan.

and Aholibamah hath born Jeush, and Jaalam, and Korah. These sons of Esau, who were born to him in the land of Canaan.

6 T hen Esau took his wives and sons and daughters and all those of his house, and his flocks and cattle, and all his riches from the land of Canaan. And he went to another land away from his brother Jacob.

And Esau taketh his wives, and his sons, and his daughters, and all the persons of his house, and his cattle, and all his beasts, and all his substance which he hath acquired in the land of Canaan, and goeth into the country from the face of Jacob his brother;

7 F or they owned too much for them to live together. The land where they were staying could not keep them alive, because of all their animals.

for their substance was more abundant than to dwell together, and the land of their sojournings was not able to bear them because of their cattle;

8 S o Esau lived in the hill country of Seir. Esau is Edom.

and Esau dwelleth in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

9 T hese are the children, and their children, of Esau the father of the Edomites in the hill country of Seir.

And these births of Esau, father of Edom, in mount Seir.

10 T hese are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz the son of Esau’s wife Adah, and Reuel the son of Esau’s wife Basemath.

These the names of the sons of Esau: Eliphaz son of Adah, wife of Esau; Reuel son of Bashemath, wife of Esau.

11 T he sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

And the sons of Eliphaz are Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz;

12 T imna acted as the wife of Esau’s son Eliphaz. And she gave birth to Eliphaz’s son Amalek. These are the sons of Esau’s wife Adah.

and Timnath hath been concubine to Eliphaz son of Esau, and she beareth to Eliphaz, Amalek; these sons of Adah wife of Esau.

13 T hese are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. They are the sons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

And these sons of Reuel: Nahath and Zerah, Shammah and Mizzah; these were sons of Bashemath wife of Esau.

14 T hese are the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon: She gave birth to Esau’s sons, Jeush, Jalam and Korah.

And these have been the sons of Aholibamah daughter of Anah, daughter of Zibeon, wife of Esau; and she beareth to Esau, Jeush and Jaalam and Korah.

15 T hese are the leaders of the sons of Esau. The sons of Esau’s first-born, Eliphaz, are leaders Teman, Omar, Zepho, Kenaz,

chief Korah, chief Gatam, chief Amalek; these chiefs of Eliphaz, in the land of Edom; these sons of Adah.

17 T hese are the sons of Esau’s son Reuel: Leaders Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah. These are the leaders of Reuel in the land of Edom. They are the sons of Esau’s wife Basemath.

And these sons of Reuel son of Esau: chief Nahath, chief Zerah, chief Shammah, chief Mizzah; these chiefs of Reuel, in the land of Edom; these sons of Bashemath wife of Esau.

18 T hese are the sons of Esau’s wife Oholibamah: Leaders Jeush, Jalam and Korah. These are the leaders of Esau’s wife Oholibamah, the daughter of Anah.

And these sons of Aholibamah wife of Esau: chief Jeush, chief Jaalam, chief Korah; these chiefs of Aholibamah daughter of Anah, wife of Esau.

19 T hese are the sons of Esau (that is, Edom), and these are their leaders.

20 T hese are the sons of Seir the Horite, who lived in that land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

These sons of Seir the Horite, the inhabitants of the land: Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah,

21 D ishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These are the leaders of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom.

and Dishon, and Ezer, and Dishan; these chiefs of the Horites, sons of Seir, in the land of Edom.

22 T he sons of Lotan are Hori and Hemam. Lotan’s sister was Timna.

And the sons of Lotan are Hori and Heman; and a sister of Lotan Timna.

23 T he sons of Shobal are Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

And these sons of Shobal: Alvan and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho and Onam.

24 T he sons of Zibeon are Aiah and Anah. He is the Anah who found the hot water well in the desert when he was caring for the donkeys of his father Zibeon.

And these sons of Zibeon, both Ajah and Anah: it Anah that hath found the Imim in the wilderness, in his feeding the asses of Zibeon his father.

25 T he children of Anah are Dishon and Oholibamah, Anah’s daughter.

And these sons of Anah: Dishon, and Aholibamah daughter of Anah.

26 T he sons of Dishon are Hemdan, Eshban, Ithran, and Cheran.

And these sons of Dishon: Hemdan, and Eshban, and Ithran, and Cheran.

27 T he sons of Ezer are Bilhan, Zaavan and Akan.

These sons of Ezer: Bilhan, and Zaavan, and Akan.

28 A nd the sons of Dishan are Uz and Aran.

29 T hese are the leaders of the Horites: Leaders Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

30 D ishon, Ezer, and Dishan. These are the leaders of the Horites, by their families in the land of Seir. The Kings of Edom

31 T hese are the kings who ruled in the land of Edom before any king ruled the sons of Israel.

And these the kings who have reigned in the land of Edom before the reigning of a king over the sons of Israel.

32 B ela the son of Beor ruled in Edom. The name of his city was Dinhabah.

And Bela son of Beor reigneth in Edom, and the name of his city Dinhabah;

33 T hen Bela died. And Jobab the son of Zerah of Bozrah became king in his place.

and Bela dieth, and reign in his stead doth Jobab son of Zerah from Bozrah;

34 T hen Jobab died. And Husham of the land of the Temanites became king in his place.

and Jobab dieth, and reign in his stead doth Husham from the land of the Temanite.

35 T hen Husham died. And Hadad the son of Bedad, who won the fight against Midian in the field of Moab, became king in his place. The name of his city was Avith.

And Husham dieth, and reign in his stead doth Hadad son of Bedad (who smiteth Midian in the field of Moab), and the name of his city Avith;

36 T hen Hadad died. And Samlah of Masrekah became king in his place.

and Hadad dieth, and reign in his stead doth Samlah of Masrekah;

37 T hen Samlah died. And Shaul of Rehoboth on the Euphrates River became king in his place.

and Samlah dieth, and reign in his stead doth Saul from Rehoboth of the River;

38 T hen Shaul died. And Achbor’s son Baalhanan became king in his place.

and Saul dieth, and reign in his stead doth Baal-hanan son of Achbor;

39 T hen Achbor’s son died. And Hadar became king in his place. The name of his city was Pau. His wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, daughter of Mezahab.

and Baal-hanan son of Achbor dieth, and reign in his stead doth Hadar, and the name of his city Pau; and his wife's name Mehetabel daughter of Matred, daughter of Me-zahab.

40 T hese are the names of the leaders of Esau, by family, place and name: Leaders Timna, Alvah, Jetheth,

And these the names of the chiefs of Esau, according to their families, according to their places, by their names: chief Timnah, chief Alvah, chief Jetheth,

41 O holibamah, Elah, Pinon,

chief Aholibamah, chief Elah, chief Pinon,

42 K enaz, Teman, Mibzar,

chief Kenaz, chief Teman, chief Mibzar,

43 M agdiel, and Iram. These are the leaders of Edom (that is, Esau, the father of the Edomites), who lived in the land that belonged to them.
