1 M y God, my God, why have You left me alone? Why are You so far from helping me, and from the words I cry inside myself?
To the Overseer, on `The Hind of the Morning.' -- A Psalm of David. My God, my God, why hast Thou forsaken me? Far from my salvation, The words of my roaring?
2 O my God, I cry during the day, but You do not answer. I cry during the night, but I find no rest.
My God, I call by day, and Thou answerest not, And by night, and there is no silence to me.
3 Y et You are holy. The praises Israel gives You are Your throne.
And Thou holy, Sitting -- the Praise of Israel.
4 O ur fathers trusted in You, and You saved them.
In Thee did our fathers trust -- they trusted, And Thou dost deliver them.
5 T hey cried to You and were set free. They trusted in You and were not ashamed.
Unto Thee they cried, and were delivered, In Thee they trusted, and were not ashamed.
6 B ut I am a worm and not a man. I am put to shame by men, and am hated by the people.
And I a worm, and no man, A reproach of man, and despised of the people.
7 A ll who see me make fun of me. They open their mouths and shake their heads, and say,
All beholding me do mock at me, They make free with the lip -- shake the head,
8 “ He trusts in the Lord. Let the Lord help him. Let the Lord take him out of trouble, because he is happy in Him.”
`Roll unto Jehovah, He doth deliver him, He doth deliver him, for he delighted in him.'
9 B ut You brought me out when I was born. You made me trust when I drank my mother’s milk.
For thou He bringing me forth from the womb, Causing me to trust, On the breasts of my mother.
10 I was in Your care from birth. Since my mother gave birth to me, You have been my God.
On Thee I have been cast from the womb, From the belly of my mother Thou my God.
11 D o not be far from me, for trouble is near. And there is no one to help.
Be not far from me, For adversity is near, for there is no helper.
12 M any bulls have gathered all around me. Strong bulls of Bashan stand around me.
Many bulls have surrounded me, Mighty ones of Bashan have compassed me,
13 T hey open their mouths wide against me, like a loud, hungry lion.
They have opened against me their mouth, A lion tearing and roaring.
14 I am poured out like water. And all my bones are out of joint. My heart is like a melted candle within me.
As waters I have been poured out, And separated themselves have all my bones, My heart hath been like wax, It is melted in the midst of my bowels.
15 M y strength is dried up like a piece of a broken clay pot. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. And You lay me in the dust of death.
Dried up as an earthen vessel is my power, And my tongue is cleaving to my jaws.
16 F or dogs have gathered around me. A group of sinful men stand around me. They have cut through my hands and feet.
And to the dust of death thou appointest me, For surrounded me have dogs, A company of evil doers have compassed me, Piercing my hands and my feet.
17 I can tell how many bones I have. The people look at me with wide eyes.
I count all my bones -- they look expectingly, They look upon me,
18 T hey divide my clothes among them by drawing names to see who would get them.
They apportion my garments to themselves, And for my clothing they cause a lot to fall.
19 B ut You, O Lord, be not far from me! O my Strength, hurry to help me!
And Thou, O Jehovah, be not far off, O my strength, to help me haste.
20 T ake me away from the sword. Save my life from the power of the dog.
Deliver from the sword my soul, From the paw of a dog mine only one.
21 S ave me from the lion’s mouth, and from the horns of the wild bulls You answer me.
Save me from the mouth of a lion: -- And -- from the horns of the high places Thou hast answered me!
22 I will make Your name known to my brothers. In the center of the meeting of worship I will praise You.
I declare Thy name to my brethren, In the midst of the assembly I praise Thee.
23 Y ou who fear the Lord, give Him praise. All you children of Jacob, honor Him. Fear Him, all you children of Israel.
Ye who fear Jehovah, praise ye Him, All the seed of Jacob, honour ye Him, And be afraid of Him, all ye seed of Israel.
24 F or He has not turned away from the suffering of the one in pain or trouble. He has not hidden His face from him. But He has heard his cry for help.
For He hath not despised, nor abominated, The affliction of the afflicted, Nor hath He hidden His face from him, And in his crying unto Him He heareth.
25 M y praise will be from You in the big meeting of worship. I will keep my promises to Him in front of those who fear Him.
Of Thee my praise in the great assembly. My vows I complete before His fearers.
26 T hose who suffer will eat and have enough. Those who look for the Lord will praise Him. May your heart live forever!
The humble do eat and are satisfied, Praise Jehovah do those seeking Him, Your heart doth live for ever.
27 A ll the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord. All the families of the nations will worship before Him.
Remember and return unto Jehovah, Do all ends of the earth, And before Thee bow themselves, Do all families of the nations,
28 F or the holy nation is the Lord’s, and He rules over the nations.
For to Jehovah the kingdom, And He is ruling among nations.
29 A ll the proud ones of the earth will eat and worship. All who go down to the dust will fall to their knees before Him, even he who cannot keep his soul alive.
And the fat ones of earth have eaten, And they bow themselves, Before Him bow do all going down to dust, And he hath not revived his soul.
30 F uture children will serve Him. They will tell of the Lord to their children.
A seed doth serve Him, It is declared of the Lord to the generation.
31 T hey will come and tell about His saving power to a people yet to be born. For He has done it.
They come and declare His righteousness, To a people that is borne, that He hath made!
