1 S olomon the son of David became a strong king. The Lord his God was with him, and gave him much honor.
And strengthen himself doth Solomon son of David over his kingdom, and Jehovah his God with him, and maketh him exceedingly great.
2 S olomon spoke to all Israel. He spoke to the leaders of thousands and of hundreds. He spoke to the men who judge and to every leader in all Israel, the heads of fathers’ houses.
And Solomon saith to all Israel, to heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, and to judges, and to every honourable one of all Israel, heads of the fathers,
3 T hen Solomon and all the people with him went to a place of worship at Gibeon where God’s meeting tent was. It was the tent which Moses the servant of the Lord had made in the desert.
and they go -- Solomon, and all the assembly with him -- to the high place that in Gibeon, for there hath been God's tent of meeting, that Moses, servant of Jehovah, made in the wilderness,
4 ( But David had brought up the special box of God from Kiriath-jearim to the place he had made ready for it. For he had set up a tent for it in Jerusalem.)
but the ark of God had David brought up from Kirjath-Jearim, when David prepared for it, for he stretched out for it a tent in Jerusalem;
5 N ow the brass altar was there in front of the meeting tent of the Lord. It was the altar which was made by Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur. Solomon and the people worshiped the Lord there.
and the altar of brass that Bezaleel son of Uri, son of Hur made, he put before the tabernacle of Jehovah; and Solomon and the assembly seek to it.
6 S olomon went before the Lord to the brass altar at the meeting tent. And he gave a thousand burnt gifts on it.
And Solomon goeth up thither, on the altar of brass, before Jehovah, that at the tent of meeting, and causeth to ascend upon it a thousand burnt-offerings.
7 T hat night God showed Himself to Solomon and said to him, “Ask Me for anything and I will give it to you.”
In that night hath God appeared to Solomon, and saith to him, `Ask -- what do I give to thee?'
8 S olomon said to God, “You have acted toward my father David with great loving-kindness. And You have made me king in his place.
And Solomon saith to God, `Thou hast done with David my father great kindness, and hast caused me to reign in his stead.
9 N ow, O Lord God, Your promise to my father David has come true. For You have made me king over as many people as the dust of the earth.
Now, O Jehovah God, is Thy word with David my father stedfast, for Thou hast caused me to reign over a people numerous as the dust of the earth;
10 N ow give me wisdom and much understanding, that I may lead these people. For who can rule this great nation of Yours?”
now, wisdom and knowledge give to me, and I go out before this people, and I come in, for who doth judge this Thy great people?'
11 G od said to Solomon, “You have not asked for riches, much money, or honor, or the life of those who hate you. And you have not asked for a long life for yourself. But you have asked for wisdom and much understanding, that you may rule My people over whom I have made you king. Because this was in your heart,
And God saith to Solomon, `Because that this hath been with thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, and honour, and the life of those hating thee, and also many days hast not asked, and dost ask for thyself wisdom and knowledge, so that thou dost judge My people over which I have caused thee to reign --
12 w isdom and much understanding have been given to you. And I will give you riches and much money and honor. You will have more than all the kings who were before you, and more than all who will come after you.” Solomon’s Power and Riches
the wisdom and the knowledge is given to thee, and riches and wealth and honour I give to thee, that there hath not been so to the kings who before thee, and after thee it is not so.'
13 S o Solomon went from the place of worship at Gibeon, from the meeting tent to Jerusalem. There he ruled over Israel.
And Solomon cometh in the high place that in Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tent of meeting, and reigneth over Israel,
14 S olomon gathered together war-wagons and horsemen. He had 1, 400 war-wagons and 12, 000 horsemen. And he kept some of them in the war-wagon cities, and some with him in Jerusalem.
and Solomon gathereth chariots and horsemen, and he hath a thousand and four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen, and he placeth them in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.
15 T he king made silver and gold as easy to find in Jerusalem as stones. He made cedar trees as easy to find as sycamore trees in the valley.
And the king maketh the silver and the gold in Jerusalem as stones, and the cedars he made as sycamores that in the low country, for abundance.
16 S olomon’s horses were brought in from Egypt and Kue. The men who traded for the king received them from Kue for a special price.
And the source of the horses that to Solomon from Egypt and from Keva; merchants of the king from Keva take at a price,
17 T hey paid 600 pieces of silver for each war-wagon brought in from Egypt and 150 pieces of silver for each horse. They also sold them to all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Aram.
and they come up, and bring out from Egypt a chariot for six hundred silverlings, and a horse for fifty and a hundred, and so for all the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of Aram -- by their hand they bring out.
