1 S ome time later, the man who carried the king’s cup and the man who made the king’s bread did wrong against the king of Egypt.

And it cometh to pass, after these things -- the butler of the king of Egypt and the baker have sinned against their lord, against the king of Egypt;

2 P haraoh was angry with these two important men, the head cup-carrier and the head bread-maker.

and Pharaoh is wroth against his two eunuchs, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers,

3 S o he put them in prison under the care of the head of the soldiers, the same place where Joseph was in prison.

and giveth them in charge in the house of the chief of the executioners, unto the round-house, the place where Joseph a prisoner,

4 T he head of the soldiers had Joseph watch over them. He took care of them, and they were in prison for a long time.

and the chief of the executioners chargeth Joseph with them, and he serveth them; and they are days in charge.

5 O ne night both the cup-carrier and the bread-maker of the king of Egypt had a dream while they were in prison. Each man had his own dream, and each dream had its own meaning.

And they dream a dream both of them, each his dream in one night, each according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker whom the king of Egypt hath, who prisoners in the round-house.

6 W hen Joseph came in and looked at them in the morning, he saw that they were sad.

And Joseph cometh in unto them in the morning, and seeth them, and lo, they morose;

7 S o he asked these men who had worked for Pharaoh and who were with him in prison in his boss’s house, “Why are your faces so sad today?”

and he asketh Pharaoh's eunuchs who with him in charge in the house of his lord, saying, `Wherefore your faces sad to-day?'

8 T hey said to him, “We have had a dream and there is no one to tell us what it means.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not the meanings of dreams belong to God? Tell them to me.”

And they say unto him, `A dream we have dreamed, and there is no interpreter of it;' and Joseph saith unto them, `Are not interpretations with God? recount, I pray you, to me.'

9 S o the head cup-carrier told his dream to Joseph. He said, “In my dream, there was a vine in front of me.

And the chief of the butlers recounteth his dream to Joseph, and saith to him, `In my dream, then lo, a vine before me!

10 A nd there were three branches on the vine. Then its flowers grew out. From the many flowers came grapes ready to eat.

and in the vine three branches, and it as it were flourishing; gone up hath its blossom, its clusters have ripened grapes;

11 P haraoh’s cup was in my hand. So I took the grapes and made wine from them and poured it into Pharaoh’s cup. And I put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.”

and Pharaoh's cup in my hand, and I take the grapes and press them into the cup of Pharaoh, and I give the cup into the hand of Pharaoh.'

12 T hen Joseph said to him, “This is the meaning of it: The three branches are three days.

And Joseph saith to him, `This its interpretation: the three branches are three days;

13 B efore three days are over, Pharaoh will give you honor and return you to your place of work. You will put Pharaoh’s cup into his hand just like you did before when you were his cup-carrier.

yet, within three days doth Pharaoh lift up thy head, and hath put thee back on thy station, and thou hast given the cup of Pharaoh into his hand, according to the former custom when thou wast his butler.

14 B ut remember me when it is well with you, and show me kindness. Say a good word about me to Pharaoh. Get me out of this prison.

`Surely if thou hast remembered me with thee, when it is well with thee, and hast done (I pray thee) kindness with me, and hast made mention of me unto Pharaoh, then hast thou brought me out from this house,

15 F or I was stolen from the land of the Hebrews. And here also I have done nothing for which they should put me in prison.”

for I was really stolen from the land of the Hebrews; and here also have I done nothing that they have put me in the pit.'

16 T he head bread-maker saw that the meaning of the dream was good. He said to Joseph, “I had a dream also. There were three baskets of white bread on my head.

And the chief of the bakers seeth that he hath interpreted good, and he saith unto Joseph, `I also in a dream, and lo, three baskets of white bread on my head,

17 A ll kinds of food for Pharaoh were in the top basket. But the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head.”

and in the uppermost basket of all of Pharaoh's food, work of a baker; and the birds are eating them out of the basket, from off my head.'

18 T hen Joseph answered, “This is the meaning of it: The three baskets are three days.

And Joseph answereth and saith, `This its interpretation: the three baskets are three days;

19 W ithin three days, Pharaoh will lift up your head from you and put your body up on a tree. And the birds will eat the flesh from you.”

yet, within three days doth Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and hath hanged thee on a tree, and the birds have eaten thy flesh from off thee.'

20 O n the third day, Pharaoh’s birthday, he made a special supper for his servants. He gave honor to the head cup-carrier and the head bread-maker among his servants.

And it cometh to pass, on the third day, Pharaoh's birthday, that he maketh a banquet to all his servants, and lifteth up the head of the chief of the butlers, and the head of the chief of the bakers among his servants,

21 H e returned the head cup-carrier to his place of work and he put the cup into Pharaoh’s hand.

and he putteth back the chief of the butlers to his butlership, and he giveth the cup into the hand of Pharaoh;

22 B ut he killed the head bread-maker on a tree, just like Joseph had told them it would happen.

and the chief of the bakers he hath hanged, as Joseph hath interpreted to them;

23 Y et the head cup-carrier did not remember Joseph. He forgot him.

and the chief of the butlers hath not remembered Joseph, but forgetteth him.
