1 I will sing of the loving-kindness of the Lord forever. I will make known with my mouth how faithful You are to all people.

An instruction, by Ethan the Ezrahite. Of the kind acts of Jehovah, to the age I sing, To all generations I make known Thy faithfulness with my mouth,

2 F or I said, “Loving-kindness will be built up forever. You will make known how faithful You are in the heavens.”

For I said, `To the age is kindness built, The heavens! Thou dost establish Thy faithfulness in them.'

3 Y ou said, “I have made an agreement with My chosen one. I have promised to David, Your servant.

I have made a covenant for My chosen, I have sworn to David My servant:

4 I will make your seed last forever. I will build up your throne for all the children-to-come.”

`Even to the age do I establish thy seed, And have built to generation and generation thy throne. Selah.

5 O Lord, the heavens will praise Your great works and how faithful You are in the meeting of the holy ones.

and the heavens confess Thy wonders, O Jehovah, Thy faithfulness also in an assembly of holy ones.

6 F or who in the heavens is like the Lord? Who among the sons of the powerful is like the Lord?

For who in the sky, Compareth himself to Jehovah? Is like to Jehovah among sons of the mighty?

7 G od is honored with fear in the meeting of the holy ones. He is honored with fear more than all who are around Him.

God is very terrible, In the secret counsel of His holy ones, And fearful over all surrounding Him.

8 L ord God of all, powerful Lord, who is like You? All around You we see how faithful You are.

O Jehovah, God of Hosts, Who like Thee -- a strong Jah? And Thy faithfulness round about Thee.

9 Y ou rule over the rising sea. When its waves rise, You quiet them.

Thou ruler over the pride of the sea, In the lifting up of its billows Thou dost restrain them.

10 Y ou have crushed Rahab like one who is killed. You have destroyed those who hate You with Your powerful arm.

Thou hast bruised Rahab, as one wounded. With the arm of Thy strength Thou hast scattered Thine enemies.

11 T he heavens are Yours; and the earth is Yours. You have made the world and all that is in it.

Thine the heavens -- the earth also Thine, The habitable world and its fulness, Thou hast founded them.

12 Y ou have made from nothing the north and the south. Tabor and Hermon call out for joy at Your name.

North and south Thou hast appointed them, Tabor and Hermon in Thy name do sing.

13 Y ou have a strong arm. Your hand is powerful. Your right hand is honored.

Thou hast an arm with might, Strong is Thy hand -- high Thy right hand.

14 Y our throne stands on what is right and fair. Loving-kindness and truth go before You.

Righteousness and judgment the fixed place of Thy throne, Kindness and truth go before Thy face.

15 H ow happy are the people who know the sound of joy! They walk in the light of Your face, O Lord.

O the happiness of the people knowing the shout, O Jehovah, in the light of Thy face they walk habitually.

16 T hey are full of joy in Your name all day long. And by being right with You, they are honored.

In Thy name they rejoice all the day, And in Thy righteousness they are exalted,

17 F or You are the shining-greatness of their strength. And our horn is lifted high by Your favor.

For the beauty of their strength Thou, And in Thy good will is our horn exalted,

18 F or our safe-covering belongs to the Lord. And our king belongs to the Holy One of Israel.

For of Jehovah our shield, And of the Holy One of Israel our king.

19 O nce You spoke in a special dream to Your faithful ones, saying: “I have given help to a powerful one. I have honored a chosen one from among the people.

Then Thou hast spoken in vision, To Thy saint, yea, Thou sayest, I have placed help upon a mighty one, Exalted a chosen one out of the people,

20 I have found David, Your servant. I have poured My holy oil upon him.

I have found David My servant, With My holy oil I have anointed him.

21 M y hand will stay with him. And My arm will give him strength.

With whom My hand is established, My arm also doth strengthen him.

22 T hose who hate him will not fool him. No sinful man will bring trouble to him.

An enemy exacteth not upon him, And a son of perverseness afflicteth him not.

23 B ut he will see Me crush those who fight against him. I will kill those who hate him.

And I have beaten down before him his adversaries, And those hating him I plague,

24 I will be faithful and My loving-kindness will be with him. And in My name he will become great.

And My faithfulness and kindness with him, And in My name is his horn exalted.

25 I will set his hand on the sea also, and his right hand on the rivers.

And I have set on the sea his hand, And on the rivers his right hand.

26 H e will cry to Me, ‘You are my Father, my God, and the rock that saves me.’

He proclaimeth me: `Thou my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.'

27 I will make him My first-born also, the highest of the kings of the earth.

I also first-born do appoint him, Highest of the kings of the earth.

28 I will keep My loving-kindness for him forever. And My agreement with him will be made strong.

To the age I keep for him My kindness, And My covenant stedfast with him.

29 I will make his seed last forever. And his throne will last as long as heaven.

And I have set his seed for ever, And his throne as the days of the heavens.

30 If his sons leave My Law and do not do what I say,

If his sons forsake My law, And in My judgments do not walk;

31 a nd if they break My Laws and do not obey My Word,

If My statutes they pollute, And My commands do not keep,

32 t hen I will punish their sin with the stick, and their wrong-doing with the whip.

I have looked after with a rod their transgression, And with strokes their iniquity,

33 B ut I will not take my loving-kindness from him. I will always be faithful to him.

And My kindness I break not from him, Nor do I deal falsely in My faithfulness.

34 I will not break My agreement, or change what was spoken by My lips.

I profane not My covenant, And that which is going forth from My lips I change not.

35 O nce I have promised by My holy name, I will not lie to David.

Once I have sworn by My holiness, I lie not to David,

36 H is seed will last forever. And his throne will last before Me like the sun.

His seed is to the age, And his throne as the sun before Me,

37 I t will last forever like the moon, which may always be seen in the sky.”

As the moon it is established -- to the age, And the witness in the sky is stedfast. Selah.

38 B ut You have thrown off and turned away from Your chosen one. You have been full of anger against him.

And Thou, Thou hast cast off, and dost reject, Thou hast shown Thyself wroth With Thine anointed,

39 Y ou have hated the agreement with Your servant. You have made his crown dirty in the dust.

Hast rejected the covenant of Thy servant, Thou hast polluted to the earth his crown,

40 Y ou have broken down all his walls. You have destroyed his strong places.

Thou hast broken down all his hedges, Thou hast made his fenced places a ruin.

41 A ll who pass on the road rob him. He has become a shame to his neighbors.

Spoiled him have all passing by the way, He hath been a reproach to his neighbours,

42 Y ou have honored the right hand of those who fight against him. You have made all who hate him glad.

Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries, Thou hast caused all his enemies to rejoice.

43 Y ou have turned away the sharp part of his sword. And You have not made him stand in a fight.

Also -- Thou turnest back the sharpness of his sword, And hast not established him in battle,

44 Y ou have put an end to what shows of his greatness, and have thrown his throne to the ground.

Hast caused to cease from his brightness, And his throne to the earth hast cast down.

45 Y ou have made him old before his time, and have covered him with shame.

Thou hast shortened the days of his youth, Hast covered him over shame. Selah.

46 H ow long, O Lord? Will You hide Yourself forever? Will Your anger burn like fire?

Till when, O Jehovah, art Thou hidden? For ever doth Thy fury burn as fire?

47 R emember how fast my life is passing. You have made all men for nothing.

Remember, I pray Thee, what life-time? Wherefore in vain hast Thou created All the sons of men?

48 W hat man can live and not see death? Can he save himself from the power of the grave?

Who the man that liveth, and doth not see death? He delivereth his soul from the hand of Sheol. Selah.

49 O Lord, where is the loving-kindness You used to have, that You promised in faith to David?

Where Thy former kindnesses, O Lord. Thou hast sworn to David in Thy faithfulness,

50 O Lord, remember the shame of those who work for You. Remember how I carry near my heart the shame of all the nations.

Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Thy servants, I have borne in my bosom all the strivings of the peoples,

51 T hose who hate You have put us to shame, O Lord. They have put to shame the footsteps of Your chosen one.

Wherewith Thine enemies reproached, O Jehovah, Wherewith they have reproached The steps of Thine anointed.

52 P raise the Lord forever! Let it be so.

Blessed Jehovah to the age. Amen, and amen!
