An instruction, by Ethan the Ezrahite. Of the kind acts of Jehovah, to the age I sing, To all generations I make known Thy faithfulness with my mouth,

2 P oiché ho detto: «La tua bontà sussiste in eterno; nei cieli è fondata la tua fedeltà.

For I said, `To the age is kindness built, The heavens! Thou dost establish Thy faithfulness in them.'

3 I o ho fatto un patto con il mio eletto; ho fatto questo giuramento a Davide, mio servo:

I have made a covenant for My chosen, I have sworn to David My servant:

4 “ Stabilirò la tua discendenza in eterno ed edificherò il tuo trono per ogni età”».

`Even to the age do I establish thy seed, And have built to generation and generation thy throne. Selah.

5 A nche i cieli cantano le tue meraviglie, o Signore, e la tua fedeltà nell’assemblea dei santi.

and the heavens confess Thy wonders, O Jehovah, Thy faithfulness also in an assembly of holy ones.

6 P oiché chi, nei cieli, è paragonabile al Signore ? Chi è simile al Signore tra i figli di Dio ?

For who in the sky, Compareth himself to Jehovah? Is like to Jehovah among sons of the mighty?

7 D io è terribile nell’assemblea dei santi e tremendo fra quanti lo circondano.

God is very terrible, In the secret counsel of His holy ones, And fearful over all surrounding Him.

8 S ignore, Dio degli eserciti, chi è potente come te, o Signore ? La tua fedeltà si manifesta attorno a te.

O Jehovah, God of Hosts, Who like Thee -- a strong Jah? And Thy faithfulness round about Thee.

9 T u domi l’orgoglio del mare; quando le sue onde s’innalzano, tu le plachi.

Thou ruler over the pride of the sea, In the lifting up of its billows Thou dost restrain them.

10 H ai stroncato l’Egitto, ferendolo a morte; con braccio potente hai disperso i tuoi nemici.

Thou hast bruised Rahab, as one wounded. With the arm of Thy strength Thou hast scattered Thine enemies.

11 I cieli sono tuoi, tua pure è la terra; tu hai fondato il mondo e tutto ciò che è in esso.

Thine the heavens -- the earth also Thine, The habitable world and its fulness, Thou hast founded them.

12 H ai stabilito il settentrione e il mezzogiorno; il Tabor e l’Ermon mandano grida di gioia al tuo nome.

North and south Thou hast appointed them, Tabor and Hermon in Thy name do sing.

13 T u hai un braccio potente; la tua mano è forte, alta è la tua destra.

Thou hast an arm with might, Strong is Thy hand -- high Thy right hand.

14 G iustizia e diritto sono la base del tuo trono, bontà e verità vanno davanti a te.

Righteousness and judgment the fixed place of Thy throne, Kindness and truth go before Thy face.

15 B eato il popolo che conosce il grido di gioia; esso cammina, o Signore, alla luce del tuo volto;

O the happiness of the people knowing the shout, O Jehovah, in the light of Thy face they walk habitually.

16 e sulta tutto il giorno nel tuo nome e gioisce della tua giustizia.

In Thy name they rejoice all the day, And in Thy righteousness they are exalted,

17 P erché tu sei il vanto della loro forza e con il tuo favore accresci la nostra potenza.

For the beauty of their strength Thou, And in Thy good will is our horn exalted,

18 P oiché il nostro scudo appartiene al Signore, e il nostro re al Santo d’Israele.

For of Jehovah our shield, And of the Holy One of Israel our king.

19 T u parlasti allora in visione al tuo diletto, e dicesti: «Ho portato aiuto a un prode, ho innalzato un eletto fra il popolo.

Then Thou hast spoken in vision, To Thy saint, yea, Thou sayest, I have placed help upon a mighty one, Exalted a chosen one out of the people,

20 H o trovato Davide, mio servo, l’ho unto con il mio santo olio;

I have found David My servant, With My holy oil I have anointed him.

21 l a mia mano lo sosterrà saldamente e il mio braccio lo rafforzerà.

With whom My hand is established, My arm also doth strengthen him.

22 I l nemico non lo sorprenderà e il perverso non l’opprimerà.

An enemy exacteth not upon him, And a son of perverseness afflicteth him not.

23 I o disperderò davanti a lui i suoi nemici e sconfiggerò quelli che l’odiano.

And I have beaten down before him his adversaries, And those hating him I plague,

24 L a mia fedeltà e la mia bontà saranno con lui e nel mio nome crescerà la sua potenza.

And My faithfulness and kindness with him, And in My name is his horn exalted.

25 S tenderò la sua mano sul mare e la sua destra sui fiumi.

And I have set on the sea his hand, And on the rivers his right hand.

26 E gli m’invocherà, dicendo: “Tu sei mio Padre, il mio Dio e la rocca della mia salvezza”.

He proclaimeth me: `Thou my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.'

27 I o inoltre lo costituirò mio primogenito, il più eccelso dei re della terra.

I also first-born do appoint him, Highest of the kings of the earth.

28 G li conserverò la mia grazia per sempre, il mio patto con lui rimarrà stabile.

To the age I keep for him My kindness, And My covenant stedfast with him.

29 R enderò eterna la sua discendenza e il suo trono come i giorni dei cieli.

And I have set his seed for ever, And his throne as the days of the heavens.

30 S e i suoi figli abbandonano la mia legge e non camminano secondo i miei ordini,

If his sons forsake My law, And in My judgments do not walk;

31 s e violano i miei statuti e non osservano i miei comandamenti,

If My statutes they pollute, And My commands do not keep,

32 i o punirò il loro peccato con la verga e la loro colpa con percosse;

I have looked after with a rod their transgression, And with strokes their iniquity,

33 m a non gli ritirerò la mia grazia e non verrò meno alla mia fedeltà.

And My kindness I break not from him, Nor do I deal falsely in My faithfulness.

34 N on violerò il mio patto e non muterò quanto ho promesso.

I profane not My covenant, And that which is going forth from My lips I change not.

35 U na cosa ho giurato per la mia santità e non mentirò a Davide:

Once I have sworn by My holiness, I lie not to David,

36 l a sua discendenza durerà in eterno e il suo trono sarà davanti a me come il sole,

His seed is to the age, And his throne as the sun before Me,

37 s arà stabile per sempre come la luna; e il testimone che è nei cieli è fedele».

As the moon it is established -- to the age, And the witness in the sky is stedfast. Selah.

38 E ppure, tu ti sei adirato contro il tuo unto, l’hai respinto e disprezzato.

And Thou, Thou hast cast off, and dost reject, Thou hast shown Thyself wroth With Thine anointed,

39 T u hai rinnegato il patto con il tuo servo, hai fatto cadere e profanato la sua corona.

Hast rejected the covenant of Thy servant, Thou hast polluted to the earth his crown,

40 H ai abbattuto tutti i suoi baluardi, hai ridotto in rovine le sue fortezze.

Thou hast broken down all his hedges, Thou hast made his fenced places a ruin.

41 T utti i passanti l’hanno saccheggiato, è diventato lo scherno dei vicini.

Spoiled him have all passing by the way, He hath been a reproach to his neighbours,

42 T u hai reso vittoriosa la destra dei suoi avversari, hai rallegrato tutti i suoi nemici.

Thou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries, Thou hast caused all his enemies to rejoice.

43 H ai smussato il taglio della sua spada e non l’hai sostenuto nella battaglia.

Also -- Thou turnest back the sharpness of his sword, And hast not established him in battle,

44 H ai fatto cessare il suo splendore e hai gettato a terra il suo trono.

Hast caused to cease from his brightness, And his throne to the earth hast cast down.

45 H ai abbreviato i giorni della sua giovinezza, l’hai coperto di vergogna.

Thou hast shortened the days of his youth, Hast covered him over shame. Selah.

46 F ino a quando, Signore, ti terrai nascosto e l’ira tua arderà come fuoco?

Till when, O Jehovah, art Thou hidden? For ever doth Thy fury burn as fire?

47 R icòrdati quant’è breve la mia vita, e per quale vanità hai creato tutti i figli degli uomini!

Remember, I pray Thee, what life-time? Wherefore in vain hast Thou created All the sons of men?

48 Q ual è l’uomo che viva senza vedere la morte? Che scampi l’anima sua al potere del soggiorno dei morti?

Who the man that liveth, and doth not see death? He delivereth his soul from the hand of Sheol. Selah.

49 S ignore, dov’è la tua antica bontà che giurasti a Davide nella tua fedeltà?

Where Thy former kindnesses, O Lord. Thou hast sworn to David in Thy faithfulness,

50 R icorda, Signore, l’oltraggio fatto ai tuoi servi; ricòrdati che io porto in cuore quello di tutti i grandi popoli;

Remember, O Lord, the reproach of Thy servants, I have borne in my bosom all the strivings of the peoples,

51 l ’oltraggio di cui ti hanno ricoperto i tuoi nemici, o Signore, l’oltraggio che hanno gettato sui passi del tuo unto.

Wherewith Thine enemies reproached, O Jehovah, Wherewith they have reproached The steps of Thine anointed.

52 B enedetto sia il Signore per sempre. Amen! Amen!

Blessed Jehovah to the age. Amen, and amen!
