1 L a guerra tra la casa di Saul e la casa di Davide fu lunga. Davide si faceva sempre più forte, mentre la casa di Saul si indeboliva sempre di più.

And the war is long between the house of Saul and the house of David, and David is going on and strong, and the house of Saul are going on and weak.

2 N acquero a Davide dei figli a Ebron. Il suo primogenito fu Amnon, nato da Ainoam di Izreel;

And there are born to David sons in Hebron, and his first-born is Amnon, of Ahinoam the Jezreelitess,

3 i l secondo fu Chileab, nato da Abigail di Carmel, che era stata moglie di Nabal; il terzo fu Absalom, figlio di Maaca, figlia di Talmai, re di Ghesur;

and his second Chileab, of Abigail wife of Nabal the Carmelite, and the third Absalom son of Maacah daughter of Talmai king of Geshur,

4 i l quarto fu Adonia, figlio di Agghit; il quinto fu Sefatia, figlio di Abital;

and the fourth Adonijah son of Haggith, and the fifth Shephatiah son of Abital,

5 e il sesto fu Itream, figlio di Egla, moglie di Davide. Questi nacquero a Davide in Ebron. Abner fa alleanza con Davide

and the sixth Ithream, of Eglah wife of David; these have been born to David in Hebron.

6 D urante la guerra tra la casa di Saul e la casa di Davide, Abner acquistava autorità nella casa di Saul.

And it cometh to pass, in the war being between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner hath been strengthening himself in the house of Saul,

7 S aul aveva avuto una concubina di nome Rispa, figlia di Aia; e Is-Boset disse ad Abner: «Perché sei andato dalla concubina di mio padre?»

and Saul hath a concubine, and her name Rizpah daughter of Aiah, and saith unto Abner, `Wherefore hast thou gone in unto the concubine of my father?'

8 A bner si adirò moltissimo per le parole di Is-Boset e rispose: «Sono forse una testa di cane di quelli di Giuda? Finora ho dato prova di lealtà verso la casa di Saul tuo padre, verso i suoi fratelli e i suoi amici, non ti ho dato nelle mani di Davide, e proprio oggi tu mi rimproveri lo sbaglio commesso con questa donna!

And it is displeasing to Abner exceedingly, because of the words of Ish-Bosheth, and he saith, `The head of a dog I -- that in reference to Judah to-day I do kindness with the house of Saul thy father, unto his brethren, and unto his friends, and have not delivered thee into the hand of David -- that thou chargest against me iniquity concerning the woman to-day?

9 D io tratti Abner con il massimo rigore, se non faccio per Davide tutto quello che il Signore gli ha promesso con giuramento,

thus doth God to Abner, and thus He doth add to him, surely as Jehovah hath sworn to David -- surely so I do to him:

10 t rasferendo il regno della casa di Saul alla sua, stabilendo il trono di Davide sopra Israele e sopra Giuda, da Dan, fino a Beer-Sceba».

to cause the kingdom to pass over from the house of Saul, and to raise up the throne of David over Israel, and over Judah, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba.'

11 I s-Boset non poté replicare ad Abner, perché aveva paura di lui.

And he is not able any more to turn back Abner a word, because of his fearing him.

12 A llora Abner spedì dei messaggeri a Davide per dirgli: «A chi appartiene il paese? Fa’ alleanza con me e il mio braccio sarà al tuo servizio per volgere dalla tua parte tutto Israele».

And Abner sendeth messengers unto David for himself, saying, `Whose the land?' saying, `Make thy covenant with me, and lo, my hand with thee, to bring round unto thee all Israel.'

13 D avide rispose: «Sta bene; io farò alleanza con te. Ma una sola cosa ti chiedo: che tu non ti presenti davanti a me senza condurmi Mical, figlia di Saul, quando mi comparirai davanti».

And he saith, `Good -- I make with thee a covenant; only, one thing I am asking of thee, that is, Thou dost not see my face, except thou dost first bring in Michal, daughter of Saul in thy coming into see my face.'

14 D avide spedì dei messaggeri a Is-Boset, figlio di Saul, per dirgli: «Rendimi Mical, mia moglie, con la quale mi fidanzai a prezzo di cento prepuzi di Filistei».

And David sendeth messengers unto Ish-Bosheth son of Saul, saying, `Give up my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself with a hundred foreskins of the Philistines.'

15 I s-Boset mandò a prenderla dal marito Paltiel, figlio di Lais.

And Ish-Bosheth sendeth, and taketh her from a man, from Phaltiel son of Laish,

16 I l marito andò con lei, l’accompagnò piangendo e la seguì fino a Baurim. Poi Abner gli disse: «Va’, torna indietro!» Ed egli se ne ritornò.

and her husband goeth with her, going on and weeping behind her, unto Bahurim, and Abner saith unto him, `Go, turn back;' and he turneth back.

17 I ntanto Abner entrò in trattative con gli anziani d’Israele e disse: «Già da lungo tempo state cercando di avere Davide come vostro re.

And the word of Abner was with the elders of Israel, saying, `Heretofore ye have been seeking David for king over you,

18 O ra è tempo di agire, perché il Signore ha parlato di lui e ha detto: “Per mezzo di Davide, mio servo, io salverò il mio popolo Israele dalle mani dei Filistei e da quelle di tutti i suoi nemici”».

and now, do, for Jehovah hath spoken of David saying, By the hand of David my servant -- to save My people Israel out of the hand of the Philistines, and out of the hand of all their enemies.'

19 A bner parlò anche con quelli di Beniamino. Quindi andò a trovare Davide a Ebron per informarlo di tutto quello che Israele e tutta la casa di Beniamino avevano deciso.

And Abner speaketh also in the ears of Benjamin, and Abner goeth also to speak in the ears of David in Hebron all that good in the eyes of Israel, and in the eyes of all the house of Benjamin,

20 A bner giunse a Ebron presso Davide, accompagnato da venti uomini; Davide offrì un banchetto ad Abner e agli uomini che erano con lui.

and Abner cometh in unto David, to Hebron, and with him twenty men, and David maketh for Abner, and for the men who with him, a banquet.

21 P oi Abner disse a Davide: «Io parto e vado a radunare tutto Israele presso il re mio signore, affinché essi facciano alleanza con te e tu regni su tutto quello che il tuo cuore desidera». Così Davide congedò Abner, che se ne andò in pace. Abner ucciso da Ioab

And Abner saith unto David, `I arise, and go, and gather unto my lord the king the whole of Israel, and they make with thee a covenant, and thou hast reigned over all that thy soul desireth;' and David sendeth away Abner, and he goeth in peace.

22 I ntanto la gente di Davide e Ioab tornavano da una scorreria, portando con sé un grande bottino; ma Abner non era più con Davide a Ebron, perché questi lo aveva lasciato andare ed egli se n’era andato in pace.

And lo, the servants of David, and Joab, have come from the troop, and much spoil have brought with them, and Abner is not with David in Hebron, for he hath sent him away, and he goeth in peace;

23 Q uando Ioab e tutta la gente che era con lui furono arrivati, qualcuno portò la notizia a Ioab, dicendo: «Abner, figlio di Ner, è venuto dal re, il quale lo ha lasciato andare, ed egli se n’è andato in pace».

and Joab and all the host that with him have come, and they declare to Joab, saying, `Abner son of Ner hath come unto the king, and he sendeth him away, and he goeth in peace.'

24 A llora Ioab andò dal re e gli disse: «Che hai fatto? Ecco, Abner era venuto da te; perché lo hai lasciato andare così che è potuto partire liberamente?

And Joab cometh unto the king, and saith, `What hast thou done? lo, Abner hath come unto thee! why this -- thou hast sent him away, and he is really gone?

25 T u sai chi sia Abner, figlio di Ner! Egli è venuto per ingannarti, per spiare i tuoi movimenti e per sapere tutto quello che fai».

Thou hast known Abner son of Ner, that to deceive thee he came, and to know thy going out and thy coming in, and to know all that thou art doing.'

26 I oab, uscito da Davide, mandò dei messaggeri dietro ad Abner, i quali lo fecero ritornare dalla cisterna di Siva, senza che Davide ne sapesse nulla.

And Joab goeth out from David, and sendeth messengers after Abner, and they bring him back from the well of Sirah, and David knew not.

27 Q uando Abner fu tornato a Ebron, Ioab lo trasse in disparte nello spazio fra le due porte, come volendogli parlare in segreto, e lì lo colpì al ventre e lo uccise; fece questo per vendicare il sangue di suo fratello Asael.

And Abner turneth back to Hebron, and Joab turneth him aside unto the midst of the gate to speak with him quietly, and smiteth him there in the fifth -- and he dieth -- for the blood of Asahel his brother.

28 Q uando Davide udì il fatto, disse: «Io e il mio regno siamo per sempre innocenti davanti al Signore del sangue di Abner, figlio di Ner;

And David heareth afterwards and saith, `Acquitted I, and my kingdom, by Jehovah, unto the age, from the blood of Abner son of Ner;

29 r icada esso sul capo di Ioab e su tutta la casa di suo padre, non manchi mai nella casa di Ioab chi soffra di gonorrea o di lebbra o debba appoggiarsi al bastone o perisca di spada o sia senza pane!»

it doth stay on the head of Joab, and on all the house of his father, and there is not cut off from the house of Joab one having an issue, and leprous, and laying hold on a staff, and falling by a sword, and lacking bread.'

30 C osì Ioab e Abisai, suo fratello, uccisero Abner, perché questi aveva ucciso Asael loro fratello a Gabaon, in battaglia.

And Joab and Abishai his brother slew Abner because that he put to death Asahel their brother, in Gibeon, in battle.

31 D avide disse a Ioab e a tutto il popolo che era con lui: «Stracciatevi le vesti, cingetevi di sacco e fate cordoglio per la morte di Abner!» Il re andò dietro alla bara.

And David saith unto Joab, and unto all the people who with him, `Rend your garments, and gird on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner;' and king David is going after the bier.

32 A bner fu seppellito a Ebron, il re alzò la voce e pianse sulla tomba di Abner; anche tutto il popolo pianse.

And they bury Abner in Hebron, and the king lifteth up his voice, and weepeth at the grave of Abner, and all the people weep;

33 I l re fece un canto funebre su Abner e disse: «Doveva Abner morire come muore un criminale?

and the king lamenteth for Abner, and saith: -- `As the death of a fool doth Abner die?

34 L e tue mani non erano legate, né i tuoi piedi erano stretti nei ceppi. Sei caduto come si cade per mano di scellerati».

Thy hands not bound, And thy feet to fetters not brought nigh! As one falling before sons of evil -- Thou hast fallen!' and all the people add to weep over him.

35 T utto il popolo ricominciò a piangere Abner; poi si avvicinò a Davide per fargli prendere cibo mentre era ancora giorno; ma Davide giurò dicendo: «Mi tratti Dio con tutto il suo rigore se assaggerò pane o qualche altra cosa prima che tramonti il sole!»

And all the people come to cause David to eat bread while yet day, and David sweareth, saying, `Thus doth God to me, and thus He doth add, for -- before the going in of the sun, I taste no bread or any other thing.'

36 T utto il popolo capì e approvò la cosa; tutto quello che il re fece fu approvato da tutto il popolo.

And all the people have discerned, and it is good in their eyes, as all that the king hath done is good in the eyes of all the people;

37 C osì tutto il popolo e tutto Israele riconobbero in quel giorno che il re non entrava per nulla nell’uccisione di Abner, figlio di Ner.

and all the people know, even all Israel, in that day, that it hath not been from the king -- to put to death Abner son of Ner.

38 I l re disse ai suoi servi: «Non sapete voi che oggi in Israele è caduto un principe, un grand’uomo?

And the king saith unto his servants, `Do ye not know that a prince and a great one hath fallen this day in Israel?

39 Q uanto a me, benché unto re, sono tuttora debole; mentre questa gente, i figli di Seruia, sono troppo forti per me. Renda il Signore a chi fa il male secondo la malvagità di lui».

and I to-day tender, and an anointed king: and these men, sons of Zeruiah, too hard for me; Jehovah doth recompense to the doer of the evil according to his evil.'
