1 C antico di Asaf. O Dio, perché ci hai respinti per sempre? Perché arde l’ira tua contro il gregge del tuo pascolo?

An Instruction of Asaph. Why, O God, hast Thou cast off for ever? Thine anger smoketh against the flock of Thy pasture.

2 R icòrdati del tuo popolo che acquistasti nei tempi antichi, che riscattasti perché fosse la tribù di tua proprietà; ricòrdati del monte Sion, di cui hai fatto la tua dimora!

Remember Thy company. Thou didst purchase of old, Thou didst redeem the rod of Thy inheritance, This mount Zion -- Thou didst dwell in it.

3 D irigi i tuoi passi verso le rovine eterne; il nemico ha tutto devastato nel tuo santuario.

Lift up Thy steps to the perpetual desolations, Everything the enemy did wickedly in the sanctuary.

4 I tuoi avversari hanno ruggito nel luogo delle tue assemblee; vi hanno posto le loro insegne per emblemi.

Roared have thine adversaries, In the midst of Thy meeting-places, They have set their ensigns as ensigns.

5 C ome chi agita in alto la scure nel folto d’un bosco,

He is known as one bringing in on high Against a thicket of wood -- axes.

6 c on l’ascia e con il martello, hanno spezzato tutte le sculture della tua casa.

And now, its carvings together With axe and hatchet they break down,

7 H anno appiccato il fuoco al tuo santuario, hanno abbattuto e profanato la dimora del tuo nome.

They have sent into fire Thy sanctuary, to the earth they polluted the tabernacle of Thy name,

8 H anno detto in cuor loro: «Distruggiamo tutto!» Hanno arso tutti i luoghi delle assemblee divine nel paese.

They said in their hearts, `Let us oppress them together,' They did burn all the meeting-places of God in the land.

9 N oi non vediamo più nessun segno; non c’è più profeta, né chi tra noi sappia fino a quando…

Our ensigns we have not seen, There is no more a prophet, Nor with us is one knowing how long.

10 F ino a quando, o Dio, ci oltraggerà l’avversario? Il nemico disprezzerà il tuo nome per sempre?

Till when, O God, doth an adversary reproach? Doth an enemy despise thy name for ever?

11 P erché ritiri la tua mano, la tua destra? Tirala fuori dal tuo seno, e distruggili!

Why dost Thou turn back Thy hand, Even Thy right hand? From the midst of Thy bosom remove.

12 E ppure Dio è nostro re dai tempi antichi, colui che opera la salvezza sulla terra.

And God my king of old, Working salvation in the midst of the earth.

13 T u, con la tua forza, dividesti il mare, spezzasti la testa ai mostri marini sulle acque,

Thou hast broken by Thy strength a sea-, Thou hast shivered Heads of dragons by the waters,

14 s pezzasti la testa al leviatano, lo dèsti in pasto al popolo del deserto.

Thou hast broken the heads of leviathan, Thou makest him food, For the people of the dry places.

15 T u facesti sgorgare fonti e torrenti, asciugasti fiumi perenni.

Thou hast cleaved a fountain and a stream, Thou hast dried up perennial flowings.

16 T uo è il giorno, la notte pure è tua; tu hai stabilito la luna e il sole.

Thine the day, also Thine the night, Thou hast prepared a light giver -- the sun.

17 H ai fissato tutti i confini della terra, hai stabilito l’estate e l’inverno.

Thou hast set up all the borders of earth, Summer and winter Thou hast formed them.

18 R icòrdati che il nemico ha oltraggiato il Signore e che un popolo stolto ha disprezzato il tuo nome.

Remember this -- an enemy reproached Jehovah, And a foolish people have despised Thy name.

19 N on abbandonare alle belve la vita della tua tortora, non dimenticare per sempre il gregge dei tuoi poveri afflitti!

Give not up to a company, The soul of Thy turtle-dove, The company of Thy poor ones forget not for ever.

20 A bbi riguardo al patto, poiché i luoghi tenebrosi della terra sono pieni di covi di violenza.

Look attentively to the covenant, For the dark places of earth, Have been full of habitations of violence.

21 L ’oppresso non se ne torni confuso; fa’ che il misero e il povero lodino il tuo nome.

Let not the oppressed turn back ashamed, Let the poor and needy praise Thy name,

22 E rgiti, o Dio, difendi la tua causa! Ricòrdati che lo stolto ti oltraggia tutto il giorno.

Arise, O God, plead Thy plea, Remember Thy reproach from a fool all the day.

23 N on dimenticare il grido dei tuoi nemici, lo strepito incessante di quelli che si innalzano contro di te.

Forget not the voice of Thine adversaries, The noise of Thy withstanders is going up continually!
